 • New bat rules for 2012

Superleague Playoffs begin June 2

The Superleague Playoffs -- a double-elimination blind draw tournament -- are scheduled to begin on Saturday, June 2, for both the Prep-13 and Majors Divisions.

The time and location of all playoff games are currently TBD. When we have more precise information we will post it on the website.

For both divisions, the tournament will run from June 2-June 16.

Our Prep-13 team will likely play its first game on either June 2 or June 3.
Our Majors division team will likely play on both June 2 and June 3.

In both cases, once a team loses twice it is out of the tournament.

Good luck to both our teams in the playoffs!

Spring Season Update - Majors Division Combining Teams

As of this week (May 21) we have combined the two Majors Division teams into one combined team, which will play out the PC2 remaining schedule (which has more games left than PC1).

Latest Bat Rule Changes for 2012 (updated 11/23/11)

In October 2010 the International Board of Directors of Babe Ruth League, Inc. announced a moratorium on the use of certain types of composite bats in the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 and 16-18 Divisions.

Welcome to PCBRL

Princeton-Cranbury Babe Ruth League (PCBRL) is your next stop after the Princeton Little League and Cranbury-Plainsboro Little League. We offer recreational and competitive baseball programs in two divisions over the fall, spring, and summer seasons.

The Prep-13 program is designed to ease the players' introduction to the big field. We encourage all graduating Little Leaguers to participate in the fall season as upcoming 13's and try at least one season playing on a major-league sized baseball diamond. The players will only play games against other upcoming 13-year-old players from other towns and leagues.

We also offer a Majors division for 14-15 year-olds, designed to advance the level of play for players who have already experienced one year of playing on the big field.

• The fall season is geared toward development and instruction and runs from early September through October.

• In the spring we join a Mercer County "Superleague" that includes teams from other local Babe Ruth leagues in our district. Spring play begins in April and runs through mid-June.

• The summer season, which runs from mid-June through the end of July, is geared toward competitive tournament play, including the annual District tournament in early July.

• We also offer a winter training program that combines instruction, fitness, and skill development.

Welcome to PCBRL. Please feel free to contact either of us with questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What are the age requirements for Babe Ruth baseball?

Answer: Players who turn 13 between May 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012 are eligible for the Spring 2012 Prep-13 division.

Players who turn 14 or 15 between May 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012 are eligible for the Spring 2012 Majors division.

Question: What is the skill level needed to participate in Princeton-Cranbury Babe Ruth?

Answer: PCBRL supports enthusiastic players at all skill levels for play in the fall and spring programs. The coaches are able to work with players to advance their skills, and position assignments will be based upon ability to play a position safely. Most players of at least average athletic proficiency and some baseball experience are able to play safely and have an enjoyable time.

The summer program is more competitive and normally requires an advanced level of proficiency for being a starter.

Question: What is the time involvement required in the different Princeton-Cranbury Babe Ruth programs?

Answer: The fall PCBRL program begins in the first or second week of September and runs through the end of October. Teams in both the Prep-13 and Majors divisions typically play two games per week. The Prep-13 teams usually play on Friday night and Saturday morning or afternoon; the Majors teams usually play one weeknight game and one game on Sunday. Teams will typically have one or two additional practices per week. Home Games are usually played at Hilltop Field in Princeton, with some games scheduled for Smoyer Field (Princeton) and Village Green Field (Cranbury). The goal of the fall program, particularly for the Prep-13 Division, is to give all players the chance to explore their skills in different positions and to begin to appreciate the strategic side of the game.

The spring PCBRL program, which begins in April and runs through early June, is designed as a community program providing the sole outlet for those players who do not play for their school team while also supplementing the school baseball programs for other players. Every effort is made to coordinate the spring schedule with the various school team schedules, so that it is possible for players to participate in both. As in the fall season, there are typically two games and at least one practice per week.

The summer PCBRL program begins in mid-June and typically runs through the end of July. Summer play is focused on tournament competition, with frequent practices and a more concentrated schedule of games, sometimes involving multiple games per week. Participation in the summer program is separate from the registration for the spring program.
Sponsors and Donations Welcome

We are always looking for team sponsors and scholarship assistance. Any donations made to PCBRL will go directly into the funding of scholarships, equipment, or facilities enhancement.
