UPPER MORELAND CAPTURES FOURTH STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
August 18, 2011 —
The Upper Moreland Brewers continued their reign of dominance, capturing their fourth consecutive league title by beating Glenside, 2-1, Wednesday night at Masons Mill Park.
Glenside, runners-up for the third season in a row, made the Brewers earn it, losing three games by a combined 4 runs.
The Brewers posted an incredible overall record of 40-2, including 6-0 in the postseason.
BREWERS TAKE 2-0 SERIES LEAD

Upper Moreland took a 2-0 lead on Glenside Saturday in the Pendel League Championship series. The Brewers took game one by a score of 3-2 and the nightcap, 2-0. They are now one game away from their fourth consecutive title.
Games 3 & 4 were scheduled for Sunday at Alverthorpe Park but due to the rain, the games were moved to Monday night at Masons Mill Park (7pm).

GLENSIDE OUTLASTS WARMINSTER 2-1 IN 12 INNING CLASSIC TO ADVANCE TO FINALS

In a semi-finals series that lived up to expectations, Glenside won the deciding 5th game, 2-1, in 12 innings Wednesday night at Masons Mill Park. Four of the five games in the series were decided by one run.
Glenside now moves on to face Upper Moreland in the championship. It is third year in a row the two teams will be meeting in the championship. Upper Moreland is looking to become the first team since Jenkintown ('86-'89) to win a fourth consecutive title. Glenside is looking for their first championship since 2005.
The series begins Saturday, 4pm @ Masons Mill Park
GLENSIDE, WARMINSTER TIED 2-2; DECIDING GAME 5 TUESDAY NIGHT

Glenside and Warminster will meet in a deciding fifth game, Tuesday night at Masons Mill Park (7pm).
The teams split Saturday's doubleheader. Sunday, Glenside was leading Warminster 4-3 in the sixth inning when rain stopped play. The game resumed last night, with Warminster coming from behind to win 5-4. Game 4 was played right afterwards and Glenside avoided elimination with a 3-2 victory.
Tonight's winner will face Upper Moreland in the championship series beginning Saturday (4pm Masons Mill Park).
UPPER MORELAND ADVANCES; WARMINSTER AND GLENSIDE TIED AT 1-1

The #1 seeded Upper Moreland Brewers advanced to finals after beating #5 LOMA in three straight. The Brewers took the first two games at Saturday by scores of 4-2, and 4-3. They completed the sweep Sunday at Tarken Playground, rallying from an 8-6 deficit in the 7th to pick up a 10-8 victory. In the other semi-finals matchup, #2 Glenside and #3 Warminster split a pair of games Saturday at Alverthorpe Park. Glenside scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to win game 1, 7-6. Warminster answered back with an 11-3 victory in game 2 to even the series.
The series shifted to William Tennant High School on Sunday. Glenside was holding a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 6th in game 3 when play was halted due to rain. They will pick the game up Monday night at Masons Mill Park, with game 4 to follow right after.
The championship will begin next Saturday with a doubleheader at Masons Mill Park beginning a 4pm.
WARMINSTER, LOMA ADVANCE TO SEMI-FINALS

Warminster and LOMA both took the first 2 games of their best of three first round playoff series to move on to next weekend's semifinals.
At William Tennant, Warminster swept Northeast by scores of 10-0 and 9-5. The Warriors adavnce to take on 2nd seeded Glenside next Saturday at Alverthorpe Park.
In the other first round series,Northampton played host to LOMA at the Northampton Recreation Center. LOMA got past Northampton 5-3 in game one. In game two, LOMA was trailing 3-0 after 3 innings but were able to rally for an 8-5 victory. LOMA advances to face the top seeded Upper Moreland Brewers beginning next Saturday, 4PM at Masons Mill Park.
LOADED SCHEDULE HEATS UP THE PLAYOFF RACES (7/11 - 7/17)

This past week was an extremely busy one in the Pendel League with 15 games scheduled as the teams jockied for playoff positioning.
MONDAY (7/11) Upper Moreland rode starter Corey Crispell to a 5-1 victory as the visiting team at Masons Mill Park. Crispell was dominant in a 7 inning, complete game effort. Crispell carried a no-hitter into the 7th, eventually allowing two hits. Crispell struck out 7 and didn't walk a batter.
TUESDAY (7/12) At Alverthorpe, Glenside was all over LOMA, 13-3. The Hawks Dan Seitzenger had a big night, going 3-4 and knocking 4 runs. Kevin McGovern picked up the win, striking out 9 in 5 innings of work.
Upper Moreland took on Bristol at Masons Mill. The Brewers got a solid 6 innings out of Paul Spiewak (2H, 1ER) to help earn an 8-2 win. Ryan Pater scored two runs and stole a base. Bryan Torresani was 1-2, with 2 runs and a walk. Dennis Reilly had an RBI double for the winners.
WEDNESDAY (7/13) LOMA visited Alverthorpe Park for the second night in a row. The outcome was not much different, as once again Glenside's offense broke a 5-5 tie with an 8 run 5th inning. John Drozdowski was a beast, going 3-4 with a grandslam and 6 rbi. Dan Seitzenger, Bob Drozdowski and Pat Brennan each had two hits for Hawks. Tim Foulkrod pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
Bristol took on Northeast at Rooselvelt Middle School. Chris Bechter and Ryan Polk knocked in 3 runs a piece to lift Bristol to a 7-1 win.
At William Tenent, visiting Northampton took a 5-0 lead in the third and was able to hold off Warminster for a 5-4 victory. Shane Hanna hit a two run homer for the visitors to help make a winner of starter A.J. Wright (6 IP, 2ER. Nate Roman hit a solo shot for the Warriors.
THURSDAY (7/14) LOMA hosted Northeast at Tarken Playground. Northeast picked up their third win of the season by a 5-3 count. Casey Rothwell was 3-4 with a triple, a runs scored, an rbi and a BB to lead the Vikings offense. Jesse Bulicki and Jack Brucker added two hits a piece. As a team, Northeast stole 5 bases in the game. LOMA had several chances to put runs on the board but left a total of 12 men on base in 6 innings.
At Masons Mill, Upper Moreland kept on rolling, downing Northampton 5-2. For the Brewers, Brett Reynolds and Ryan Pater had three hits a piece and Nick Fasano was 2-3 with a home run and 2 rbi's. Sean Byles went 3-3 with a pair of doubles for Northampton.
FRIDAY (7/15) Glenside traveled to Bristol and thumped them, 10-0. Dan Seitzenger had a 4 hit night. John Drozdowski had two hits, including a homer to go along with 4 rbi's. Anthony Caringi went the distance for the Hawks, scattering five hits and striking out 8.
SUNDAY (7/17) At William Tenent, LOMA took on Warminster. Warminster scored 5 runs in the 7th to come from behind for a 7-5 victory. Brandon Roman's two run triple broke a 5-5 tie and made a winner of Andrew Lihotz, who went the distance. Bobby Argeros knocked in a pair of runs and CJ Brancotto had two hits and a rbi for the Warriors. Warminster also turned a triple play in the fourth inning. Matt Compton went 3-3 and Nick Klein had a two hits and knocked in 3 for LOMA.
The visiting Upper Moreland Brewers pounded Glenside 16-0. For the Brewers, Brett Reynolds was 3-3 with a double, a triple, 3 rbi's and 3 runs scored and Bryan Torresani had two hits, including a triple to go along with 3 rbi's and 2 runs scored.
At George Washington HS, Northampton swept a double header by scored of 8-1 and 13-9. In the opener, Joe Crane (2B, 2RS), Shane Hanna (2B, RS) and Joe Opalka (2RS) each had two hits for Northampton. Game 2 was a tight affair with the two teams comining for 22 runs and 22 hits. With scored knotted a 9-9, Northampton scored four runs with two outs to take the lead for good. Drew Gerhart led the way for Northampton going 3-5 with a home run, a double and 3 rbi's. Northeast's Tom Brucker went 3-4 with a homerun and 5 rbi's.
REGULAR SEASON WINDS DOWN; PLAYOFF MATCHUPS SET (7/18-7/25)

Coming into the season's final week, there was little drama as far as playoff seedings were concerned as 1st,4th,5th and 6th place were already determined.
Upper Moreland had long wrapped up the top spot and a first round bye. However, the second place bye was still up for grabs heading into the week with Glenside and Warminster battling it out. Glenside would win their final five games to edge out the Warriors for second place.
That means Warminster will take on sixth place Northeast in a best of three first round matchup starting Saturday. The other first round series, also beginning Saturday, will feature fourth place Northampton hosting fifth place LOMA.
Here how it unfolded: MONDAY 7/18 Upper Moreland dealt Warminster a serious blow to the 2nd place chances, handing Warminster a 9-1 home loss. Mike Gers was 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI for the Brewers, and winning pitcher Pete Moore helped himself at the plate going 2-3 with a walk. Brett Reynolds scored 3 runs to go along with 2 RBI, and Nick Chiaverelli chipped in with a 2-2 day.
At Northampton Rec Center, Northampton hosted LOMA in a first round playoff preview. Mike Hunt's 2nd inning grandslam gave Northampton a 4-1 lead. With Northampton holding onto a 7-6 lead with one out in the top of the seventh, Eric Kammler launched a two run homer to give LOMA an 8-7 lead. Two batters later, Matt Compton hit his second home run of the game to extend LOMA's lead to 10-7. Compton knocked in 5 runs on the night. LOMA's Anthony Mirabella was 2-3 with a BB and 3RS. Tom Miller pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
At Northeast, Glenside used a five run 6th inning to get past Northeast, 7-5. Northeast scored a run in the 4th to open the scoring. Glenside then answered back in the top of the 5th on a two run single by John Drozdowski. In the bottom of the 5th, with the bases loaded, Jesse Bulicki hit a bases clearing double to give Northeast a 4-2 lead. Northeast would add another run in the inning to make it 5-2. But Glenside battled back in the top of the 6th with 5 runs, topped off by a John Gyles (2-3, 3rbi) 2 run single to give Glenside the lead for good. Glenside's Kevin Mcgovern struck out 14 and picked up the complete game win.
TUESDAY (7/19) After a tough defeat the night before, Northeast had the unenviable task of trying to bouce back by playing a twi night doubleheader against Upper Moreland at Masons Mill Park. In Game 1, the Brewers Andy Noga kept the Vikings offense in check, striking out 9 over 6 innings to pick up the 6-1 victory. Doug Brown (2-2, 2rbi) and Nobel Unger (2-3, 2RS) each hit a pair of doubles for the Brewers.
Game 2 was over after 4 innings as Upper Moreland jumped Northeast early en route to a 12-1 win. Brett Reynolds was 3-3 with 3 runs scored and Ryan Pater was 2-2 with 3 runs scored to lead the Brewers.
At Alverthorpe Park, Glenside scored two late runs to break a 4-4 tie to get past LOMA 6-4. Bob Drozdowski was 2-3 with a pair of doubles, 2runs scored and 2rbi's for the Hawks. Avis Smith knocked in two runs and Andrew Wetmore allowed just one run in four innings out of the pen to pick up the win. LOMA's Nick Klein threw complete game, allowing 3 earned runs in a losing effort. Rey Incheutegui homered for LOMA.
Warminster and Northampton locked up in a good one at Northampton Rec Center. Warminster was trailing 7-6 heading into the seventh but was able to scrape across a run to tie the game, 7-7. Northampton failed to score in the home half of the 7th and due to darkness the game ended in a tie. For Warminster, Bobby Argeros was 2-4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and an rbi. Kevin Bray was 2-3 with a pair of RBI's. Dan Roman reached base all four times he was up with two hits and two walks and Bryan McCabe hit a solo home run for the Warriors. Northampton's Shane Hanna had a monster game going 3-3 with a homer, 2 runs scored, 4rbi's and two stolen bases.
WEDNESDAY (7/19) LOMA and Northampton met in a rematch up of Monday night's 10-7 LOMA win. This Northampton would get the last laugh, coming back from a 4-2 deficit to score 5 in the 7th and pick up a 7-5 victory. Rey Incheutegui was 2-3 with 3rbi's for LOMA. For Northampton, Sean Byles was 2-2 with a double an two runs scored. Mike Hunt doubled, scored a run and knocked in a pair.
Also Wednesday, Upper Moreland went on the road and picked up a 6-2 win over Warminster. Corey Crispell pitched a complete game, allowing 2 unearned runs, striking out 7 and walking none to get the victory. Brett Reynolds, Bryan Torressani and Pete Moore (3rbi) all had a two hits for the Brewers.
THURSDAY (7/20) For the second time in three days, LOMA and Glenside met at Alverthorpe Park. This time, there was no need for late game heroics as Glenside pounded LOMA 8-1. John Gyles led the Hawks, going 3-4 with a double and 4 rbi's.
SUNDAY (7/24) The week ended with LOMA sweeping a doubleheader against Northeast at Tarken Playground. LOMA took the opender by an 11-1 count. Dustin Kology was 3-3 with 3RS, 2SB and an RBI. Eric Kammler knocked in three runs and winning pitcher, Kevin Conroy, helped himself with a solo homerun to lead off the third inning. Game 2 was more of the same as LOMA raced out to an 8-1 lead after three innings en route to a 12-4 victory. Matt Compton hit a pair of doubles and triple to go along with his third home run of the week. Dustin Kology picked up 3 more hits. Kevin Conroy was 3-5 with a double and a triple and Eric Kammler tripled and knocked in a pair. Nick Klein pitched a complete game to earn the win.
2011 ALL-STAR TEAM NAMED

The 2011 Pendel League All-Star Team was selected at a meeting of the league managers on 6/25. The team will face the Perkiomen League All-Stars in the 2nd Annual All-Star Game between the two leagues.
This year's game will be played on Saturday 7/9 @ Masons Mill Park (7:05)

PERKIOMEN LEAGUE TOPS PENDEL, 6-2, IN ALL-STAR GAME

At Masons Mill Park Saturday night, the Perkiomen League rode a five run first inning to a 6-2 victory over the Pendel All-Stars in the 2nd annual All-Star game between the two leagues.
WEEK IN REVIEW (7/5 - 7/10)
July 11, 2011 —
After taking the Fourth of July holiday weekend off, the Pendel League got back into action on Tuesday when Upper Moreland hosted Glenside under the lights at Masons Mill Park. Brett Reynolds was the offensive catalyst for the Brewers, going 2-3 with a 2B, a walk, while scoring 3 runs and knocking in 3. Pete Moore pitched a complete game, 2 hitter with 8 K's to pick up the win.
Wednesday had three games on the schedule. At Warminster, the Warriors beat Northeast by a 9-0 count. Pat Traczykiewicz hit a pair of doubles and knocked in 4 runs and CJ Appenzeller doubled, homered and knocked in 3 to lead the Warminster attack. Phil Warner pitched six scoreless innings, earning the win.
In the night's other game, LOMA took on Glenside at Alverthorpe Park. Merv Woodland's two run double in the second gave LOMA a 4-1 lead. Glenside answered back with 3 of their own in the third to knot the score up at 4-4. Mike Whitaker's 2 out, rbi single in the fifth gave LOMA the lead for good. Jerry Dougherty pitched 3 innings of no hit, no run ball to pick up the save for winning pitcher, Eric Ruland. Bob Drozdowski hit a pair of doubles for Glenside.
Sunday had a pair of double headers and single game on the docket.
At Alverthorpe, Glenside and Wminster split a pair of games. In the first game, Glenside used a 12 hit attack to beat the Warriors. John Drozdowski, the leading rbi man in the league, knocked in 3 runs on 2 hits. John Gyles was 2-3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's. Mark Bellomo allowed 2 hits over 6.1 to get the win for the Hawks.
Game 2 was a reveral of fortunes as this time it Warminster's turn to light the scoreboard with 17 hits in a 15-3 victory over Glenside. Dom Farrello Jr was 4-4 with a triple and 3 runs scored. Rob Gianfelice picked up three hits,including a double and three runs scored to lead Warminster. Andrew Liholtz pitched 5 innings, picking up th win.
At Northeast, Northampton sweepta doubleheader over the Vikings. In game one, Joe Crane and Bill McElroy had a pair of hits and Mike Hunt knocked in two, leading NH to a 6-1 win. Game two was a carbon copy as Mike Hunt had two hits and knocked in 2 more runs in a 7-1 win.
In the final game of the week, LOMA took on Upper Moreland at Masons Mill Park. Ryan Pater knocked in all three of the Brewer runs and Doug Brown pitched a complete game, 4 hitter in Upper Moreland's 3-0 win over LOMA.
