Pirates Trap Bears

Portland, Maine - Brett Sterling scored two goals to power the Pirates past the Hershey Bears in a 6-4 victory in front of 5,826 fans at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The win saw five Pirates score goals and ten notch assists. The Pirates (36-30-4-5, 81 points) moved into seventh place in the Eastern Conference with the win, one point clear of the Syracuse Crunch, who lost to the Rochester Americans 5-1. The Pirates have now won four straight, six in a row on home ice, and have won six of their last eight games. The Bears, (38-24-4-8, 88 points) who have secured a playoff spot and sit in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, dropped their sixth straight decision, going 0-4-0-2 over that span.

Andrew Hart defeats Ben Nunan 28-26 Drew wins the series 3-1 Like the last three victories, it was all decided by Brett Sterling who had two powerplay goals to give Andrew the game. And with that win, Andrew Hart has emerged as the Pirates Fantasy League 2011-2012 champion!

Pirates Hang On to Beat Whale

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates passed the Manchester Monarchs to move into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a win over the Connecticut Whale 2-1 in front of 3,280 fans at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates (35-30-4-5, 79 points, 8th Eastern Conference) were led by goaltender Peter Mannino, who stopped 34 shots in the victory. The win was the Pirates’ third in a row, and fifth in their last seven games. Portland has now won a season-high five straight games on home ice. The Whale (36-26-7-5, 85 points, 6th Eastern Conference) were dealt a huge blow in their quest to win the Northeast Division title with the defeat. They now trail the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by three points with two games remaining, and Bridgeport has a game in hand.

Andrew Hart defeats Ben Nunan 12-10 Drew leads the series 2-1
Brett Sterling was the deciding factor as his 2nd period assist gave Andrew the lead over Ben and the opportunity to clinch the series and win the Tom Ebright Memorial Championship Cup with a victory on Friday.
Pirates Outlast Scrappy Sharks

Portland, Maine - Marc–Antoine Pouliot and Brett Sterling both scored in the shootout and goalie Peter Mannino stopped all four shots he faced as the Portland Pirates (34-30-4-5, 77 points, 9th Eastern Conference) defeat the Worcester Sharks (29-31-4-8, 70 points, 14th Eastern Conference) by a score 5-4 in front of 5,907 fans at the Cumberland County Civic Center. With the win Portland is now tied with Manchester Monarchs for the eighth and final playoff spot. However the tiebreaker goes to Manchester because they have more non-shootout wins. Nick Ross had a goal and two assists and Ethan Werek had two goals for the Pirates.

Andrew Hart defeats Ben Nunan 19-12 The series is tied 1-1
Brett Sterling was the difference maker as he accumulated 10 points on the night, helping to give Andrew the win and even the PFL championship series 1-1.
PSN Cup - April 7th (series finale) Andrew Stanley earned the high score of the night with 9 points, but we will have a tie for the third consecutive year as Andrew Hart, Derek LaFleur, and Kevin Keniston tied with 62 points to capture a share of the Pirates Saturday Night Cup. This will be the second consecutive year that Andrew and Derek have won the competition, tying last year for the 2011 award.
