2012 Philadelphia A's Baseball Info

The Philadelphia A's head into the Memorial Day Break at 6-3 and in first place in the Penn Division.  The team has had its ups and downs in the first third of the 2012 season.  They feel that havent fully hit thier stride yet in this early season.  However, after the showing this team put on at the NJIBL Inagural Memorial Day AC Tourney winning all 4 games and dominating thier opponets to take home the trophy, they may have just found thier stride.  MVP hopeful Billy Mason has had a very good season thus far and CY Young candidate Dennis Geiger is off to his best start in years at 4-1.  Many players have made his contributions thus far in 2012 and the big highlight of the early season was the A's first ever walkoff homerun vs the Colt 45s by Chris Godwin off Colts All Star Ace Ian Downes! The A's return home this week to face the Aston Angels (formerly the outlaws) at Hunting Park Sunday June 3rd.   First pitch is at 10am, this will be the first meeting of these two teams this year.  The A's swept the outlaws (4-0) in last years series.

 2011 Philadelphia A's Baseball
The Philadelphia A's ARE THE 2011 GPMABL CHAMPIONS!!!!!

After a long 6 year drought, on September 11th, 2011 at 741pm, the Philadelphia A's claimed their 2nd championship title in franchise history with a 10-2 rout over the Penn Division Champion Colt 45s.  The A's not only had to wait 6 years but with all the rain in august, another 3 weeks to finally claim the title.  A's Ace Frank Busillo pitched a complete game to get the deceisive win and A's MVP Billy Mason was on base all 5 times he came to the plate and scored three runs.  The squibber heard round the world was the start of the big nite for the A's.  Dennis Higgins walked, and Billy Mason came to the plate and hit a little squibber down first base, the ball was spinning so much it gave Colts pitcher Steve McReady fits, forcing him to hurry his throw and overthrow the first baseman.  This led to Dennis Higgins scoring the first run of the game, the A's went on to score 3 more runs in the first to take a 4-0 lead, and they never looked back. Chris Schroeder and Rodney Quintana also had huge nights at the plate!  The Colts had two big chances with runners in scoring positon but did not capitalize and the A's just kept pouring it on.  The final out of the game was recorded by RF Adam Oddo. This ends the greatest season in franchise history with an overall record of 23-6. The A's celebrated into the night at PJ Whelians, then on friday sept 15 partied well into the wee hours of the morning!!!!

Milt Thompson's Hitting Tips!

Milt Thompson, the World Champion Phillies hitting coach, is the official hitting coach of the Philadelphia A's in 2009! His hitting techniques were learned by some of the A's this offseason in order to better their offensive production in 2009.  Below are his hitting tips.

1. Have Fun - its just a game!

2. See the ball - Hit the ball!

3. See the ball - Catch the ball!

4. Relax, Step, and Throw.

5. You hit with your hands - not your body!

6. Trust your hands - let the ball get to the front of the plate!

7. Let the game come to you - dont force it.

8. Practice the way you play - game speed.

9. Trust your natural abilty.

10.  Your goal is to have more hits then games played.
