2009 Philadelphia A's Game Highlights

NABA Labor day tournamnent Atlantic City NJ

A's are Runner UP in 18A bracket!

The A's took a team to the labor day tournament this year and did very well! The team was comprised of players from GPMABL Phillies, A's and Yankees as well as a few players from Bucks county mabl league.  The teams first game vs Monmouth County Thunder was played at 4pm on saturday, (GPMABL Yankees) Kevin Reilly hit a grand slam in the 7th inn to tie the game at 5.  The game ended up going extra innings before the A's pulled out an 8-7 win to go to 1-0 in the tourney.

Game 2 was played on saturday night in northfield under the lights against the 5th ranked team in the country, the florida rangers.  It was a back and forth battle between the two teams.  There was a 3 hr time limit on the game and it went 7 innings, the final score was A's 8, Rangers 8.  Putting the a's at 1-0-1.

Game 3 was played on sunday morning in Ocean City vs the Connecticut A's, once again the a's found themselves down late in the game, a late rally tied it in the 8th and in the 9th Billy Mason delivered to knock in the game winning rbi and put the A's in the semifinals!

Game 4 Semifinals vs TRI STATE TITANS

After some bad blood in 2006 with this titans team, the A's were looking for revenge and they got it! The titans got off to a 3-0 early lead but the A's stormed back with 11 runs by the 5th, The a's crusied the rest of the way to win 11-6 and get to the championship game!  Unfortunately A's rbi man Billy Mason suffered a wrist injury while swinging and could not go.

Game 5 Championship vs Monmouth County Thunder

The championship game was played early monday morning in Northfield, the thunder got off to an early 2-0 lead and it stayed that way til the 7th when the A's added 1 to make it 2-1 the thunder got a hr from their leadoff man to make it 3-1.  But just like the rest of the game the A's fought back in the 9th, had runners on 1st n 2nd with two outs and (phillies) Dan Fox came to the plate and had a seeing eye single, unfortunately (phillies) Joe McCabe got thrown out at home on a heads up play by the Thunder ss to win them the ship.
We did not expect to do as well as we did and everyone had a blast over the weekend! Looking forward to next tournament! A's runner up in 18a naba ac labor day tourney!

FALL SEASON 2009

Week 1 A's @ South Jersey Dominators in cinnaminson.

The new look fall team split with the defending runner up South Jersey Dominators on Sunday Sept 13.  New Ace Kyle Reynolds kept the Dominators offense down all game, the A's scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th inn to get the win.  A's record 1-0.  WP Reynolds

In game 2, The dominators threw their ace Varga and he shut us down to only 5 hits, the A's lose game 2, 5-1.

Week 2 A's @ Media Knights @ cardinal o hara

Once again the A's pitching and Defense played extremely well with kyle reynolds and frank busillo on the hill, but the offense could not muster up many runs and the a's lost both games, 2-0 game 1  and 3-1 in game 2 in extra innings.

Milt Thompson's Hitting Tips!

Milt Thompson, the World Champion Phillies hitting coach, is the official hitting coach of the Philadelphia A's in 2009! His hitting techniques were learned by some of the A's this offseason in order to better their offensive production in 2009.  Below are his hitting tips.

1. Have Fun - its just a game!

2. See the ball - Hit the ball!

3. See the ball - Catch the ball!

4. Relax, Step, and Throw.

5. You hit with your hands - not your body!

6. Trust your hands - let the ball get to the front of the plate!

7. Let the game come to you - dont force it.

8. Practice the way you play - game speed.

9. Trust your natural abilty.

10.  Your goal is to have more hits then games played.

A Little Bit of A's History
This organization is entering its 12th season as an Adult/Semi Pro Baseball Club. We have made the playoffs every season and we have appeared in three championships, winning one in 2005! The overall team record is 139 wins, 120 losses, 3 ties.

The overall playoff record is 17-14.

The team has only 4 team MVP's in the last 11 seasons....
  • Billy Mason (6x)
  • Cuba Quintana (3x)
  • Joe Juliano (1x)
  • Dennis Geiger (1x)

As you can see....This has been a very successful organization.
