NAKIEF WILLIAMS TOPS 1000; HAROLD HICKS MOVES TO 2nd PLACE ALL-TIME; KHALIEF TRAWICK 1500
February 15, 2007 - 04:00 PM Nakief Williams became the newest member of the Philly Heat 1000 point club, as he helped the 15 and Under Squad win their game at North Light C. C. "Keif" scored his milestone poins on a three point shot, as his team wqas pulling ahed in the first half. He's not only a scorer, as he rebounds well and has good court vision. Williams career total stands a 1005 points.

Harold Hicks continued to build his career totals, becoming the second Heat player to score 2800 points. He scored 18 points in his team's quarteri-final win in the Myers League in Southwest Phily.. In the game Hicks topped 2000 points, he was outstanding, scoring 32 points on 14-16 shooting from the field and making six assists in a 92-73 win at Norristown. He scored 88 points and dealt 28 assists in seven games, helping the Heat 16-Under win the Silver Division of the Wildcat National. in Rockford Ill. His career total is 2803 points in 227 games. He is the second highest scorer in Heat history and tops among active players. Hicks averages almost six assists per-game. When Philly won the M.Y.B.L. title, Hicks was the M.V.P. In four tough play-off games, he averaged 15 points and five assists.

Khalief Trawick became the 11th Philly Heat player to score 1500 points, when he hit the game winning shot as the Heat topped the Stars 66-65 in over-time in the New Sigma League. at Ben Franklin High. He fired for 40 against the D.C. Assault at the Capitol Events National Invitational Semi-Final (An 81-75 win) in Washington D.C. when he went over the 1000 point mark. Trawick reached the milestone in 56 games (18+ PPG). Only Dionte Christmas (42 Games, 24+ PPG) got there faster. Khaloef now has 1534 career points.

Marque' Griffin (1721 points), moved into 7th place on the team's 1000 Career Point Club. He was outstanding in the "Best of Philly" Classic, with 54 points and lock down defense. He also was strong at the Panther Classic in Canada, scoring 91 points in five games to help the 14-Under to the Consolation Championship against High School Varsity teams. Griffin also was a leader in assists, steals and rebounds across the border. He was the MVP of the New Sigma League, where his team was undefeated champs. Griffin's 14 and Under team had a 72-15 record since November, with five titles.

Wing Forward D. J. Newbill topped 1000 points in style, where he was MVP on his undefeated team won the Metro Baltimore Basketball League. Newbill drained 54 points in three MYBL playoff games to run his career total to 1604 points in 125 Heat (Record 98-23, Seven Titles) contests. D.J. Helped the Heat win title #7, when he drained a winning shot at the buzzer in the Chip game. He is especially tough to stop, because of his size (6'2") and his ability to shoot from outside. If you choose to double him on defense, to stop his scoring, he unselfishly dominates the game with assists.

Shooting guard Javez Reynolds also helped the 14 and Under team win the title in the "Best of Philly" Classic. "Vez", who is competing in his third Heat season, tallied 49 points, often on important possessions, to climb to 1367 career points. He recently passed Dionte Christmas, who is averaging almost 22 points a game and is an 2007 NCAA top 10 scorer for Temple University.

Brandon Wesley moved became the 8th highest scorer in team history with 1587 points in 117 games. In one his of seven team titles (Happy Hollow League), Brandon scored 10 key points on strong moves (one for a thee point play) in crunch time of the Happy Hollow championship game. Wesley was relentless on the boards and could score from just about anywhere on the floor.

Wyoming had a week to prepare for the Heat zone defense and it showed during the first half of play, as they took a 25-15 into half time intermission. Philly made an adjustment, going to their man to man defense, which turned momentum in their favor in the second half. For the Heat players, this was a big step up, since they were playing High School Varsity teams and they are only in 7th through 9th grade. Philly Heat Win Petawawa Canada "Panther Classic"
February 8, 2004 The Philly Heat traveled to the town of Petawawa Ontario, near Ottawa Canada, where they captured the General Panet Panther Classic championship, where they defeated Toronto Preparatory School 61-58. Toronto faced the Heat in that game holding a top 20 North American Prep School (five year high school) ranking. Petawawa adopted the Philly players cheering them on in their title quest, selling out the the arena for the semi-finals and finals. All tourney proceeds went to the Tim Horton Children's Fund, which help struggling families.
Ricky McClain's four point play with 31 seconds remaining proved to be the game breaking play for the Heat. Trailing 54-52, Steve Hassell (eight assists) spotted McClain wide open beyond the three point arc ,on the left wing. He launched the shot, right as Toronto's Jordan Williams crashed into him. Williams fouled out with 10 points and seven assists. "I got knocked down", McClain explained. "I didn’t see the ball go in. I thought I had three
foul shots, when I herd the crowd cheer, but I still didn’t know the shot went in until my teammates told me." McClain, who scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds, hit his one free throw and suddenly the Heat was protecting a 56-54 lead. Dionte Christmas, who led Philly with 25 points and 14 rebounds, hit all three of his free throws and added a field goal to seal the championship.
Philly grabbed a three point lead, 13-10 after a period of play and amazingly they made that margin stand up throughout the contest. In the second and third period both teams scored 15 apiece and in the tense fourth, the score was knotted at 18 each. The game had other unsung heroes. Thomas Wilkerson nailed a three point shot, which pulled his team to within 54-52 with 45 seconds remaining. When Wilkerson got his fourth foul early in the final period, William Hayes-Webb came in to hit a big bucket and deal two assists down the stretch. Kenny Williams, who grabbed 10 rebounds, hit a bucket to tie the game 47 with 2:25 remaining. Shane Morrison, one of Canada's highest rated guards, led Toronto with 36 points. Philly was able to control Toronto's towering front-court, which averaged 6'8".
In the Semifinals, the Heat had to work overtime to defeat Quinte Secondary School of Belleville Ontario 77-64. Philly again had to battle from behind in regulation on key buckets by Hassell (25 points), Hayes-Webb (seven assists) and Williams (12 points) to take the lead with 11 seconds left in regulation. Quinte called a high screen, which freed 6'8" center Jamie Vanderbeken (28 points), who calmly hit a three pointer to send the game into overtime, tied at 60 apiece. If they were disappointed, the Heat didn’t show it, as they romped 17-4 in the overtime, led by Hassell's seven points (six free throws) and Christmas' six points. Christmas (26 in the game delighted the crowd with a thundering slam dunk to end the game.
In the quarterfinals, Philly took a quick 23-4 lead versus Chippewa Secondary School of North Bay Ontario, en route to a 65-46 victory. Hassel led the Heat with 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. In the first two rounds of the 32 team single elimination event, Philly was not really tested. They chose to thrill the overflow crowds with dazzling dunks, pinpoint passing and high percentages hooting. They defeated L'Escale Secondaire of Rockland Ontario 94-53 in their opener. Christmas scored 35 points, followed by Hassell and Williams 20 points each. Hayes-Webb added 10 points. Williams also took home second place in the annual dunk contest.
In the "Sweet 16" game, Philly again romped 108-47 over West Carleton of Dunrobin Ontario. Christmas topped the Heat with 30 points and Hayes-Webb tallied a career high 27 points. McClain scored another 23 points and Wilkerson added 10 points.

HEAT DEFEAT T.S.R. BALT. BULLS TO WIN M.Y.B.L. TITLE: SURVIVE SCARE VERSUS CARMELO'S CHOICE IN SEMIS
July 3, 2006 The Philly Heat defeated the Baltimore Bulls 49-33 to earn the organization's first ever Baltimore Youth Basketball League Championship. In order to get to the title game, the Heat had to survive a suspenseful semi-final test, defeating Carmelo's Choice 34-33, when Harold Hicks hit a drive with 5.4 seconds to play.
Philly, who's combined regular season and playoff record is 10-2, cruised to victory because everyone contributed. Jon "Juice" Williams led the team with 17 points. Marque' Griffin was unstoppable a times on both ends of the floor, scoring nine points and grabbing five steals. Octavious Booker and Bahim Hall controlled the boards 11 each. Hicks led his team with seven assists.
In the semifinals, the future looked dark for the Heat, when they fell behind Carmelo's Choice 21-5 in the game's first 12 minutes. Choice played superb full court defense and had an offense designed to disable the Heat's league leading man to man defense. Philly switched completely, to a 1-2-2 full court zone press and press breaking "score first" offense.
The Heat got to within 23-16 at half time and continued to cut into the lead in the second half. Javez Reynolds, Kian Coates, Booker and Hall all scored baskets in the final three minutes to keep Philly within a point of Carmelo's. Williams hit a short jumper to gave the Heat their first lead with 33 seconds remaining. But Choice came back with a put-back hoop with 12 seconds on the clock. Hicks didn't need a time out to decide what his team needed to win. He drove hard to the rim, scoring a tough hoop over three defenders at the 5.4 second mark. Carmelo's last shot was rebounded by the do it all Griffin.

HEAT STUN W. Va. BUCS; WIN 19-U TITLE IN ROANOKE Va
August 1, 2003 The Philly Heat stunned a near capacity crowd, when they upset the West Virginia Bucs 87-76 to win the 19 Under Championship of the Roanoke Hoop Jam at Glenvar High School in Roanoke Virginia. The Locals sprinted out to a 42-20 first half lead and never looked back at the shell shocked Bucs
It was a team effort, led by Dawud Morris' (Philadelphia Regional High School) 26 points and 20 rebounds, Steve Hassell's(Aberham Lincoln High School)18 tallies and 14 boards, Richard Willoughby's (Dobbins High School) 16 points and six steals, John "Wes" Davis (Aberham Lincoln High School)15
points and nine assists, and Chris Powell's 10 points.
What makes the victory so improbable (the Heat have many Championships), was their amazing comeback from a 97-63 thumping at the hands of these same Bucs, in a preliminary round game. Local hoops fans flocked to the gym to see these "Killer Bucs" grab another in a long string of lopsided victories on their summer terror tour. What they saw, and cheered was one of the Heat's greatest accomplishments.
The smaller Philly team, who were out-rebounded by the Bucs (average front court height 6'7") 54-27 in the first game, crashed
the boards for a 45-37 advantage in the title game. The Bocs starting guards, who torched the Heat for 45 points and 27 assists in game one, were held to 22 points and nine assists when it counted most.
In addition to losing to the Bucs in pool play, Philly made their
championship run even improbable by losing to Virginia Select 88-77 in the pool play round. This set up a must win extra playoff game versus the West Va. Hurricanes. The Heat warmed up for their big win by defeating the Hurricanes 82-70. William Hayes-Webb led the team by scoring 20 points, followed by Davis' 19 tallies. Hassell added 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds,
