Pearre and Metz Named All-Division

Congratulations to Hunter Pearre and Robbie Metz as they were named to the Montgomery County 3A/2A All-Division First Team.

Pearre was named as one of three Outfielders and Metz was named as one of two pitchers on the first team.


Pitching Dual Ends in Falcons Loss in Playoffs
May 13, 2011 – 03:30 PM
The Falcons played Winters Mill today in the first round of the 2A Region Playoffs.

Robbie Metz went all 7 innings for the Falcons while Winters Mill also had a complete game turned in by their starting pitcher.

Winters Mill scored 3 in the first and then could only get on the board once more in the 5th inning. Metz allowed only 2 earned runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts.

Offensively the Falcons were led by Kyle Brown going 2 for 3 with 2 singles and courtesy runner Joey O'Reilly scored once for Brown. Senior lead-off hitter Patrick Lott also recorded two hits with two singles, going 2 for 4 on the day. Anthony Caputo had the only other run for the Falcons scoring on a passball in the 2nd inning.

The Falcons ended with a regular season record of 10-6 and an overall recored of 10-7.


Falcons Finish Season Strong with Win over WJ
May 9, 2011
The Falcons beat Walter Johnson today 10-4 in 7 innings to finish the season on a 7 game winning streak.

Chris Convers pitched four strong innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 4. Thayer Seely entered in the 5th allowing only 1 run in three innings recording the win for the Falcons.

Offensively, Convers did it at the plate also going 3 for 5 with 2 rbi's and a run. Hunter Pearre was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, scoring 3 times, walking once and getting hit by a pitch. Cody Dorsey was 2 for 4 with one run while Darryl Lang led the way with 4 rbi's going 2 for 4 with a home run and a single, he also reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Lang now leads the team with an amazing 22 rbi's.

The Falcons finished the season 10-6. The playoff draw is this Wednesday. The Falcons will wait to see where they are seeded in the playoffs.


Falcons Beat Blake in Extra Innings
May 7, 2011
The Falcons beat Blake in the bottom of the 8th inning today 7-6.

Robbie Metz started the game for the Falcons and pitched 3 innings giving up 3 runs on 2 home runs to the Bengals. Hunter Pearre came in to pitch the next 5 innings recording the win for the Falcons.

Blake went up 3-1 in the top of the 3rd after a two run home run. The Falcons came up in the bottom of the 3rd and loaded the bases with 0 outs. Chris Convers came to the plate and sent the ball over the left field fence for his first career home run and grand slam to give the Falcons a 5-3 lead. The Falcons added one more run on Sean Folk's single to right to give them a 6-3 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th the Bengals were down to their last out without any runners on base. The Bengals rallied to score 3 runs and tie the game to send it into extras.

With the score tied 6-6 in the top of the 8th, the Bengals had a runner on 3rd with 2 outs. The next batter drove the ball to right field only to be robbed by a diving catch by Thayer Seely. When asked after the game about the catch, Coach Gardiner had this to say, "Thayer does a great job in the outfield, he is consistently making diving catches, so it was no surprise to us that he came up with it."

In the bottom of the 8th, Robbie Metz started the inning with a single. Patrick Lott then bunted to send Metz to second, the Bengals pitcher attempted to throw out Metz at second on the bunt as Metz beat the throw to give the Falcons first and second with no one out and Hunter Pearre coming to the plate. Pearre proceeded to drive the ball past the 3rd baseman into left field as Metz scored from 2nd to end the game. Coach Gardiner, "It was a tremendous win. A true team win today to beat a very good Blake team. The 8th inning was fantastic with Robbie and Patrick doing a great job to get on base and then Hunter delivering the game winning hit, outstanding."

The Falcons are now 9-6 with their next game Monday at 5:15pm at Walter Johnson.


Falcons Top Watkins Mill in Morning
May 7, 2011
The Falcons started off Saturday with a win against Watkins Mill 13-3 in 6 innings.

Kyle Brown pitched 3 strong innings giving up only 1 run while throwing 29 strikes compared to 10 balls. Darryl Lang pitched the final 3 innings recording the win after giving up a 2-run homerun in the 4th that gave Watkins Mill the 3-2 lead. Lang never looked back as Watkins Mill did not record a hit the rest of the way as the Falcons offense heated up.

Offensively the Falcons were led by Thayer Seely who went 4 for 4 with 4 singles. Hunter Pearre had a double and a triple while scoring 3 times. Anthony Caputo was 2 for 4 with a single and a triple (back to back with Pearre in the 6th). Sean Folk continued to stay hot at the plate going 3 for 4 with 3 singles and scoring 2 runs.

The Falcons are now 8-6 with the second part of a doubleheader back home at 3:30pm today against Blake.



Falcons Start Weekend with Win at Einstein
May 6, 2011
The Falcons started a busy weekend with a win against Einstein 12-2 in 7 innings.

Chris Convers pitched 3 innings giving up no runs, Anthony Caputo came in to pitch 1 inning giving up 1 run, Darryl Lang pitched the next two also surrendering one run. Hunter Pearre came in to pitch the 7th and finish the game.

At the plate Sean Folk was 2 for 3 with a single, a double, and a sacrifice for a run. Thayer Seely was also 2 for 3 with 2 singles. Tyler Magaha was 2 for 4 with an rbi. Anthony Caputo was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 rbi.

The win moves the Falcons to 7-6 with a double header tomorrow against Watkins Mill in the morning and Blake in the afternoon.




Falcons Win at Rockville
May 3, 2011
The Falcons beat Rockville today 6-3. Robbie Metz pitched four strong innings recording the win allowing 2 runs and striking out 6. Hunter Pearre came in the fifth and pitched three solid innings to secure the win for the Falcons.

Offensively Patrick Lott led the way going 3 for 4 with 3 singles and 2 rbi's. Kyle Brown was 1 for 2 reaching base 3 times with 2 walks. Cody Dorsey and Chris Convers both had doubles and reached base on walks. Billy Cartwright was 1 for 4 with a big single in the 6th that started an inning where both Cartwright and Metz scored.

The Falcons next game is Friday at Einstein at 3:30pm. The win moved the Falcons recored to 6-6.


Falcons Top Kennedy in 5 innings
April 30, 2011
The Falcons topped Kennedy today 10-0 in 5 innings.

Darryl Lang, Chris Convers, and Thayer Seely combined for the shutout win.

Great offensive performances were turned in by Billy Cartwright, Tyler Magaha, Joey O'Reilly, Brendan Rowan (B. Row) and Matt Schramm.

The Falcons are now 5-6 with their next game Tuesday at Rockville at 3:30pm.


Falcons Win on Senior Day
April 28, 2011
The Falcons celebrated Senior Day with a 6-2 win over Damascus.

Seniors Patrick Lott and Darryl Lang were honored prior to the game for their oustanding contributions over the last four years to the Poolesville Baseball program. Both are captains for this years team.

Robbie Metz pitched all 7 innings recording the complete game win. Metz allowed only 3 hits while striking out 8.

Offensively the Falcons started early scoring 4 runs in the first and then adding 1 run in each of the next 2 innings. The Falcons recorded 8 hits with 8 different players getting a hit. Patrick Lott was 1 for 3 with 1 rbi and Darryl Lang was 1 for 3 with 1 run. Hunter Pearre scored twice with a single, two walks and a hit by pitch.

Todays game was rained out vs. WM. The make-up game is scheduled for May 7th at 10am.

The Falcons next game is this Saturday at Kennedy at 1:30pm.

The Falcons are now 4-6.



Falcons Lose Back to Back Heading Into Break

The Falcons dropped two tough games to Blair and Gaithersburg on Thursday night and Friday afternoon.

In the first game, Blair started scoring early and did not look back as the Falcons were never able to get going. Darryl Lang had a single and a triple with 2 rbi's as a bright spot for the Falcons in the 14-2 loss.

The Falcons came back the next day to face a tough Gaithersburg team. In the end the Falcons were able to manufacture 2 runs in the 8-2 loss despite not recording a hit.

The Falcons are now 3-6 and will have Senior Day on Wednesday after Spring Break against Damascus.



Falcons Battle, Lose to SV 7-1
April 11, 2011
The Falcons lost to Seneca Valley today 7-1. The Falcons struck first scoring one in the first inning after back to back doubles from Hunter Pearre and Darryl Lang.

Heading into 4th inning the Falcons were still on top 1-0 with Robbie Metz pitching strong. The lead off batter for SV reached on an error. Two batters later Seneca scored on a triple to tie the game. With the infield in, Seneca hit a dribble to second to score the go-ahead run. Heading into the 5th, Metz was still pitching strong down 2-1. Seneca ended up scoring 3 runs in the inning after a passball and an error by the Falcons. Seneca then added 2 more in the 6th to make the final tally 7-1.

Overal the Falcons spread out 8 hits over the 7 innings with Metz pitching 5 2/3 innings.

The next game for the Falcons (3-4) is tomorrow against Blair at home at 3:30pm.


Falcons Top Wheaton in 5 innings
April 7, 2011
The Falcons topped Wheaton 17-3 today in 5 innings. Strong pitching performances were turned in by Chris Convers, Anthony Caputo, and Hunter Pearre.

The Falcons scored early to go up 9-0 after 2 innings and never looked back. Patrick Lott had a pair of rbi's, Anthony Caputo drove in 3 rbi's and Robbie Metz led the way with 5 rbi's.

The Falcons next game is this Saturday at Seneca Valley at 2:30pm.


Falcons Drop Season Opener
March 21, 2011
The Falcons dropped their season opener 13-0 to Magruder in 5 innings today. Billly Cartwright, Chris Convers, and Thayer Seely combined to pitch the 5 innings. Darryl Lang recorded the only hit for the Falcons and Hunter Pearre had one stolen base.

The Falcons next game is on Wednesday at Richard Montgomery at 3:30pm.



Karlin Earns MVP Honors at MABC All-Star Game
June 7, 2010
Drew Karlin played in the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Classic Diamond Stars Game hosted at the Hagerstown Suns Stadium in Hagerstown, MD.

This was the first Poolesville player to be named to the MABC Classic.

Karlin earned MVP honors going 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and 4 rbi's.

Earlier in the day, the National all-stars beat the American all-stars 13-3 in the Diamond Stars Game.

Drew Karlin of Poolesville High School was selected as the Diamond Stars Game MVP after stroking a pair of two-run doubles to center for National.

Karlin’s first two-run double came in the top of the fifth to enable National to extend its lead to 4-1.

National exploded with five runs in the top of the sixth to raise its lead to 9-1. Karlin capped the rally with his second two-run double.

Williamsport’s Blake Bandeff slugged a solo homer for American.

“I thought we showcased the top talent in the Tri-State area as well as the Mid-Atlantic Region,” executive director Dave Foltz said. “It is good to see the top players from the Tri-State area play together with the top players from other areas in the Mid-Atlantic Region. We had a lot of talent and a lot of smiles today out of all four teams. Everybody got to play today and everybody was happy.”




Karlin and Werkmann Named All-Division

Drew Karlin and Tanner Werkmann were named to the Montgomery County Coaches 2A/3A All-Division Team.

Karlin was named All-Division as a Centerfielder.

Werkmann was named All-Division as a First Baseman.

Congratulations to both players.

Drew Karlin and Tanner Werkmann played great in the Montgomery County Senior All Star Game.

Karlin was named to the game as a Centerfielder and Werkmann was named as a first baseman.

Karlin was 0 for 2 with two hard grounders while Werkmann was 1 for 2 with an infield single.



Falcons and Panthers go 8 innings in Playoff Game
May 14, 2010
The Falcons and Panthers battled for 8 innings today with the Panthers coming out on top 5-3 in the first round of the playoffs.

Jimmy Tyler went 4 for 4 with 3 singles and a double, Tanner Werkmann was 1 for 3 with a double and a sacrifice fly to drive in Tyler. Drew Karlin was also 1 for 3 with a double and an rbi.

Drew Karlin pitched the complete game going 8 innings and striking out 8 in the loss.

The Falcons finished a great season going 7-10.

Congratulations to all of the Seniors for a fantastic baseball career at Poolesville High School.

Coach Gardiner had this to say after the game, "What a great group of players we have here at Poolesville High School. Throughout the season we had a fighting spirit and a never say die attitude. It showed in our comback wins agains Richard Montgomery and Blake. Today we fought hard until the end and North Carroll deserves credit for scoring two in the 8th inning to beat us. The seniors have left behind a great legacy that will continue to be built upon in years to come."

The Falcons will play North Carroll today at home at 4:30pm in the first round of the playoffs.


Falcons Fight Back, WJ Too Much in the End
May 10, 2010
The Falcons lost to Walter Johnson today 16-8 in 7 innings.

WJ jumped on top early scoring 6 runs in the first. The Falcons fought back taking the lead 8-7 heading into the 6th inning. With two outs and the score 8-8, WJ doubled to score 3 runs to make the score 11-8. Adding one more in the sixth and then four more in the 7th to eventually win the game.

Anthony Caputo was 3 for 4 with 1 run and 2 rbi's, Drew Karlin was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 rbi's including an inside the park homerun that travelled approximately 400 feet.

The Falcons now await the playoff draw on Wednesday.



Late Game Heroics Lead Falcons to Win Over Blake
May 8, 2010
The Falcons used late heroics to upend Blake 7-6 scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning for the victory.

Jimmy Tyler pitched 6 strong innings giving up 6 runs, all in the first and second innings followed up by four shutout innings.

Tyler led off the game for the visiting Falcons with a double over the left fielders head. Tanner Werkmann then followed two batters later with a two-run home run to put the Falcons up 2-0 in the first. Blake came back strong scoring 3 runs in the bottom half to take the 3-2 advantage. Blake then added 3 more runs in the 2nd inning to go up 6-2. Those would be the last runs they would score.

The Falcons were threatened in the 5th as Blake had the bases loaded with one out and their number 2 and 3 hitters, Shannon and Cunningham coming to the plate. Tyler was able to get Shannon to pop out to 2nd base and then with the bases loaded and 2 outs Cunningham flied out to left.

The Falcons were able to pull to 6-3 in the fourth inning after a single by David Schramm who then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Anthony Caputo doubled up the middle to score Schramm from second.

In the sixth inning with the score 6-3, the Falcons had Caputo lead off the inning reaching first base on an error by Blake. Alex Miller then reached on a fielders choice as Caputo was forced out at 2nd base. Ben Pyser then doubled to set up 2nd and 3rd with one out. Patrick Lott then hit the ball to Cunningham, the ball passed Pyser and deflected off of Cunningham's glove allowing 2 runs to score. Unfortunately for the Falcons, after further review by the umpires, Pyser was called out for runners interference. The inning ended with the Falcons down 6-4.

Heading into the 7th the Falcons needed two runs to tie and three to take the lead. Andy Mlynarczyk started the inning with a single up the middle. Tyler then was hit by the pitch setting up 1st and 2nd with no one out. Drew Karlin then hit a grounder that made it by the 2nd baseman scoring Mlynarczyk from 2nd. Tyler and Karlin then advanced to 2nd and 3rd on the throw home. With Tanner Werkmann coming up to the plate with already one home run on the day, Blake decided to intentionally walk him. This set up the Falcons down by one run with no one out and the bases loaded for David Schramm batting in the clean up position.

Schramm watched ball one go high and then the stage was set for the seniors Tyler, Karlin, Werkmann, and Schramm to put Poolesville ahead. On the 1-0 pitch the runners began moving on the suicide squeeze call. Schramm laid down the perfect bunt easily scoring Tyler from third to tie the game. On the throw to first Karlin never broke stride rounding third and heading home. Schramm was called out at first and then the throw came home to attempt to get Karlin. Karlin was able to slide past the catcher's tag and jump back to touch home plate safely putting the Falcons up 7-6. That was the way it would stay heading into the bottom of the 7th.

With Tyler pitching a fantastic six innings the ball was handed over to the Falcons closer Tanner Werkmann. Werkmann proceeded to get the first Blake hitter to ground out to Tyler at 2nd. The second Blake hitter then flied out to Mlynarczyk in left. With a 3-1 count on the third hitter with 2 outs Werkmann fought back to get to a 3-2 count. The next pitched was fouled off before Werkmann was able to finish off the inning with a strikeout.

Final score Falcons 7 - Blake 6. The win moved the Falcons record to 7-8 with one regular season game remaining this Monday at home against Walter Johnson at 5:15pm.



Falcons Drop Tough Game with Gaithersburg
May 6, 2010
The Falcons lost to Gaithersburg today 8-2.

Starter Drew Karlin pitched the first three innings allowing only 1 unearned run in the 3rd inning as Gaithersburg scored on a passball to go up 1-0. The Falcons struck back in the top of the 4th with a lead double by Karlin, a single by Tanner Werkmann and then a perfect suicide squeeze bunt by Ben Pyser to even the score at 1-1.

The Falcons then took the lead in the top of the 5th after Patrick Lott was hit by a pitch, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and then was driven in by Jimmy Tyler's double.

Gaithersburg fought back in the bottom half of the 5th facing Darryl Lang. With two outs and the bases loaded, Gaithersburg hit a grand slam to break the game wide open 5-2. The Trojans then added three more in the sixth against Zach Reiziss and Tanner Werkmann.

The game ended at 8-2 in favor of the Trojans.

The loss moved the Falcons record to 6-8 with their next game this Saturday at Blake at 1:30pm.


Senior's Delight in Senior Day Win
May 3, 2010
It was Senior Day today against Kennedy and the Falcons came through with a 14-4 win in 6 innings.

The day was highlighted by Seniors Jimmy Tyler going 2 for 5 with 2 runs and 2 rbi's, Drew Karlin going 2 for 4 with 1 run and 2 rbi's, Tanner Werkmann going 3 for 4 with 1 run and 2 rbi's, David Schramm going 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's, and Brad Bachman going 2 for 3 with 2 runs.

Jimmy Tyler pitched 6 innings to record the victory and the complete game.

The win moved the Falcons record to 6-7 with their next game at Gaithersburg next Thursday at 5:15pm.


Falcons Winning Streak Ends Against Damascus
April 29, 2010

The Falcons dropped a tough game today ending their two game winning streak by a final of 10-0 in 5 innings.

The Hornets were able to score 7 in the second and 3 in the 5th to put away the Falcons.

A bright spot came in the 4th for Poolesville as they were able to pick off 2 runners on back to back plays, one on 2nd base on a perfectly executed pickoff and then an excellent pick off move by Zach Reiziss to get the runner at first.

The Falcons next game is at home on Saturday at 2:30pm against Kennedy. This game will honor the Seniors in the program, Drew Karlin, Jimmy Tyler, Brad Bachman, Tanner Werkmann, David Schramm, Sammi Jo Dorsey, and Racheal Dill.



Falcons Beat Einstein
April 27, 2010
The Falcons won their second in a row beating Einstein 10-7 today.

Darryl Lang pitched four outstanding innings giving up one run. The Falcons then used a combination of five different pitchers over three innings to secure the win.

Offensively Drew Karlin was 3 for 3 with a single, double, and triple and had a walk as well as scoring 2 times. Jimmy Tyler was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs, Tanner Werkmann was 2 for 4 with a single and triple scoring once, and David Schramm was 2 for 3 with 2 runs.

Ben Pyser had 2 rbi's going 1 for 2 with a strikeout and a walk. Anthony Caputo was 1 for 3 with a clutch single in the fifth to score 2 runs.

The win moves the Falcons record to 5-6 with their next game at Damascus at 3:30pm on Thursday.




Falcons Beat Blair 5-3
April 24, 2010
The Falcons beat Blair today 5-3.

Zach Reiziss pitched five solid innings striking out 4, giving up 5 hits, and 3 runs. He was able to work extremely well in tough situations to keep the Blazers from scoring in multiple innings.

Brad Bachman came in to pitch an outstanding sixth inning, facing four batters on twelve pitches.

Tanner Werkmann came in to record his first save of the year, pitching the seventh inning facing three batters on eight pitches.

Offensively the Falcons struck early in the first inning on a 2 out, 2 strike single from David Schramm that scored Drew Karlin from 2nd base.

The big inning came in the fourth when with two outs, Andy Mlynarczyk laid down a bunt with Jake Branton on first. The pitcher overthrew the first baseman scoring Branton while Mlynarczyk hustled his way to third. Jimmy Tyler then singled in Mlynarczyk. Drew Karlin then hit a shot that two hopped the wall in left center to score Tyler from first and put Karlin on 2nd base. Werkmann then came to the plate and singled to right to score Karlin. The final out then came but not before the Falcons had put in 4 runs and made the score 5-1.

The Blazers scored 2 in the 5th inning to make the final 5-3 Falcons.

The win moved the Falcons record to 4-6 with their next game Tuesday at home against Einstein.



Falcons Lose in Pitching Duel versus Seneca Valley
April 22, 2010
The Falcons played great today in a loss to Seneca Valley 4-0. Drew Karlin pitched outstanding throwing all seven innings, striking out 12 and giving up only 4 hits.

Seneca scored 3 runs in the first inning on two hits and one walk, then went scoreless except for a sacrifice fly late in the game.

Offensively the Falcons were able to only register one hit in the game. Karlin singled in the first to give the Falcons their only hit of the day.

Defensively the Falcons were outstanding also, only having one error while Seneca had one error as well.

The loss moves the Falcons record to 3-6 with their next game at Blair on Saturday.




Wheaton Beats the Falcons 12-4
April 20, 2010
The Falcons lost to a very good Wheaton team today. The final was 12-4 in 7 innings.

The Falcons did have some offensive highlights with Drew Karlin going 2 for 3 with 2 runs on a triple (thrown out at home trying to score), a suicide squeeze play from third, and an opposite field solo home run in the 7th inning.

Tanner Werkmann was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and Darryl Lang was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and reached base on a walk.

The Falcons were hit hard early by Wheaton as the Knights scored 3 in the first inning, 3 in the second, 2 in the third, and 4 in the fourth.

The next game for the Falcons (3-5) is on Thursday at home against Seneca Valley.




Falcons Come Back Strong with Big Win Over Watkins Mill
April 17, 2010
The Falcons started in the second inning and never looked back going on to score 19 runs in the victory over Watkins Mill.

The final score had the Falcons on top 19-1.

It was an offensive day for the Falcons who were led by Drew Karlin who came one single shy of hitting for the cycle. He recorded a walk, a double, a triple, and an opposite field home run that traveled 325 feet down the left field line. Jimmy Karlin was 3 for 4 with 3 runs, Tanner Werkmann was 2 for 4 with a single and a triple and 2 runs. Sean Folk also had a big day in his first varsity game of the season going 3 for 3 with two singles and a double, scoring 3 times and driving in a pair of rbi's. Alex Miller also looked great going 2 for 3 with a single and a double, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs.

Drew Karlin started the game and went three solid innings yielding 0 runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts. Tanner Werkmann came in and worked one inning giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. Billy Cartwright finished the game strong giving up one unearned run.

The win moves the Falcons record to 3-4 with their next game on Tuesday at Wheaton at 3:30pm.


Falcons Drop Third Straight
April 15, 2010
The Falcons dropped their third straight game today losing to Rockville 10-0 in five innings.

Rockville came out strong getting five hits in the first inning and scoring five runs. They followed that up with four more runs in the second. That put the Rams up 9-0 before the Falcons could get anything going.

The Falcons were able to muster only 2 hits all day from David Schramm and Jake Branton.

Falcons Lose to Quince Orchard
April 14, 2010
The Falcons dropped a tough one today against a very good Quince Orchard team. Quince Orchard was able to tally 10 runs in two innings, scoring 6 in the 2nd and 4 in the 6th.

Zach Reiziss pitched three solid innings to start the game. Darryl Lang came in to pitch the 4th and 5th giving up only one hit in his first two innings of work this season. David Schramm came in to pitch the 6th inning.

Offensively the Falcons had a runner on base five out of the six innings but were unable to score. Tanner Werkmann was 2 for 3 with two singles and reached base on an error. Ben Pyser was 1 for 2 with a double and Darryl Lang was 1 for 2 with a single.

The Falcons next game is tomorrow at home versus Rockville at 3:30pm.


Falcons Fight Hard Drop Tough One to Clarksburg

The Falcons fought hard today eventually losing to Clarksburg 10-8.

Drew Karlin started for the Falcons and pitched three solid innings. Brad Bachman came in to pitch one inning for the Falcons giving up three unearned runs after pitching 12 strikes to only 2 balls. Anthony Caputo came in next to pitch three innings, keeping Clarksburg scoreless until a questionable call in the field.

The Falcons went down early 5-1 and then 8-2. They were able to close the gap later in the game with an outstanding 5th inning where Jimmy Tyler, Drew Karlin, Tanner Werkmann and Darryl Land all scored to make the score 8-6. Werkmann had a triple that hit the wall in left field to score Tyler and Karlin. David Schramm laid down an impressive suicide squeeze bunt in the inning to score Ben Pyser.

Heading into the 7th down 10-6, Jimmy Tyler led off the inning with a shot at the 3rd baseman that he could not handle and eventually went to second on the overthrow to first. Drew Karlin then came up and blasted a two run home run that cleared the house behind the fence in right field. Unfortunately the Falcons could not get any more runs in the inning and the game ended at 10-8.

The Falcons played very well and Coach Gardiner had this to say, "I feel that we are improving every game. Our fighting spirit has been evident in every scrimmage and game. We are a team that knows we are never out of any game."

The Falcons next game is at Quince Orchard on Tuesday at 3:30pm.



Falcons Mount Incredible Comeback to Beat RM
April 9, 2010
The Falcons came from five runs down in the 5th inning to score 7 runs in the fifth and 7 more runs in the sixth to beat Richard Montgomery 15-6.

Heading into the 5th inning, Jimmy Tyler had been pitching a great game to hold the Richard Montgomery Rockets to six runs, only one of which was earned. The Falcons offense was slow to start scoring only one run until the 5th inning.

In the 5th inning David Schramm and Neil Blanc hit back-to-back home runs after Jimmy Tyler had singled and Tanner Werkmann had doubled. In the next inning, Jimmy Tyler led off with a home run and then late in the inning Andy Mlynarczyk had a towering opposite field home run. In the two innings, the Falcons offense sent 22 batters to the plate and had 14 hits.

Tyler ended the game 3 for 5, one triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Werkmann was 3 for 4 with two doubles and 2 rbi's. Schramm was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 4 rbi's. Blanc was 3 for 4, one single shy of hitting for the cycle. Mlynarczyk was also 3 for 4, one triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Anthony Caputo was 2 for 4 with a single and a double.

Drew Karlin came in to pitch the 7th. Tyler recorded the win, pushing his record to 1-1.

The Falcons next game is tomorrow at home versus Clarksburg at 2:30pm.


Falcons Get Win on the Road
April 8, 2010
The Falcons won a tough game 5-4 against Northwood today.

Zach Reiziss pitched 4 1/3 solid innings giving up 0 runs and only 1 hit. David Schramm came and pitched solid in the 5th and 6th innings. Drew Karlin came in to close the game giving up 0 hits in 1 2/3 innings to gain his first save of the year.

The Falcons went up 1-0 in the second inning after Zach Reiziss stole third base and then scored on the overthrow from the catcher. In the fifth inning the Falcons exploded for four runs with two suicide squeeze plays executed perfectly by Jimmy Tyler bunting to score Darryl Lang and David Schramm bunting to score Andy Mlynarczyk (Mlynarczyk was pinch running for Tanner Werkmann who had just tripled).

The Falcons were up 5-0 heading into the 6th when Northwood scored two runs to make it 5-2. In the seventh, the Falcons were able to hold off Northwood after Northwood scored two more runs to make it 5-4. The final out came on a strikeout on three pitches by Drew Karlin.

The win moved the Falcons to 1-1 with their next game at home versus Richard Montgomery at 3:30pm in a make-up from before spring break.



Make-up Game versus RM Postponed Today

The game scheduled for today versus Richard Montgomery has been postponed due to rain.

The make-up game will be on Friday April 9th at 3:30 at home.

Over Spring Break the Falcons will be scrimmaging on Tuesday March 30th at 10am versus Watkins Mill.



Falcons Play Well - Drop Season Opener
March 25, 2010
The Falcons played outstanding in their season opener against Magruder only to fall short losing 3-2. Drew Karlin and Jimmy Tyler combined for 6 solid innings of work keeping the Magruder offense to 3 runs on 7 hits. Karlin struck out 7 on his way to a no decision.

Tanner Werkmann was 1 for 2, Alex Miller drove in one rbi on a sacrifice. Ben Pyser and Anthony Caputo scored the Falcons 2 runs.

Down 2-0 in the sixth, the Falcons rallied to tie the score at 2-2 before Magruder was able to score 1 in the bottom half of the sixth to take the lead 3-2 and ultimately win by the same score.

The Falcons next game is tomorrow at home versus Richard Montgomery.


Richard Montgomery Game Postponed Until Friday

The Falcons game vs. Richard Montgomery has been rescheduled for this Friday at 3:30pm at home.



Opener Versus Magruder Postponed

The opener for the Falcons versus Magruder was postponed today due to heavy rains.

The game will be made up this Thursday at 3:30pm at Magruder.

The Falcons will now open the season this Wednesday at home versus Richard Montgomery at 3:30pm.


Poolesville Falcons Ready for First Scrimmage

The 2010 Varsity Team will have their first scrimmage of the season today at Seneca Valley at 3:30pm.

The team is looking forward to a great year.

Today's scrimmage will be followed up by a scrimmage tomorrow at Brunswick at 4pm.

The team opens their season this Monday at Magruder at 3:30pm.

Falcons Finish Great Season

The Poolesville Falcons finished a great season today with a loss to Smithsburg in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Coach Gardiner had this to say about the team, "This was truly a great group of players. I really have to thank everyone on the team for making this season a lot of fun. I especially want to thank our three seniors, Daniel Young, Kevin McNealy, and Dane Hanscom. Those three were tremendous leaders both on and off the field. I also want to point out that all three are excellent students in the classroom who are consistently striving to push themselves. That makes a big difference for the entire program when we are able to have three such incredible individuals leading the way. They have set a standard that will continue to show the younger players how to act on the field and in the classroom."

The Falcons began the playoffs with an exciting 5-4 win over Williamsport.

The Falcons ended the season 8-7 with a number of outstanding plays throughout.

Kevin McNealy was named to the Montgomery County Senior All-Star game to be played May 27th at Blake High School.



Falcons Excited About Upcoming Playoffs

The Falcons are excited about the upcoming playoffs as the playoff draw approaches mid-week.

The team is 7-6 with two games scheduled for this week. With the rain all weekend it will be interesting to see if the Falcons will get the games in before the playoff draw.

The Falcons are currently led by leadoff hitter Jimmy Tyler's .378 batting average and Daniel Young's .378 batting average. Tyler has reached safely in his first at bat in the last five games. Tyler and Young are followed closely by Drew Karlin's .364 batting average and Kevin McNealy's .343 batting average. McNealy is second on the team with 11 rbi's. Dane Hanscom is leading the team with 13 rbi's.

The Falcons pitching staff is led by Drew Karlin (15 strikeouts in 14.1 innings), Daniel Young (4 starts), Jimmy Tyler (2-0 0.00 ERA), and Kevin McNealy (0.00 ERA).

Hughes and Zapata Named to Senior All Star Game

The Senior All Star Game rosters were released this morning and headlining the American All Stars were Tommy Hughes at Pitcher and Pat Zapata at 1B.

The Senior All Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th at Blake High School. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00pm.

Each player will be wearing their high school uniform.

Congratulations to both Tommy and Pat on the great honor.


Falcons Play Great Against Tough Allegany Team - Lose 7-6
May 13, 2008
The Falcons lost in the first round of the playoffs today 7-6 to a tough Allegany baseball team.

Nick Loftus pitched 5 outstanding innings throwing an amazing 58 strikes to 24 balls and only walking one. Drew Karlin came in and pitched one shutout inning. The strong hitting of Allegany drove in 7 runs outhitting the Falcons 11 to 8. It was the first time all year the Falcons were outhit at the plate.

Strong offensive performances were turned in by Kevin McNealy who was 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 rbi. Nick Loftus was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 rbi and Max Heldman was 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 rbi.

The Falcons went up 1-0 in the 2nd inning after Loftus singled, advanced to 2nd on a dropped third strike, then advanced to 3rd on a pass ball, and scored on Drew Karlin's grounder to 1st. The Campers tied it up in the 2nd with a solo homerun by their starting pitcher Ellsworth. Then scored 2 more runs to go up 3-1. The Falcons came right back in the 3rd with a double by McNealy that scored Heldman. Then Loftus followed that up with a single to score McNealy from 2nd.

With the score tied 3-3 entering the 4th, Karlin reached on an errant throw stopping at 2nd base. Wyne then bunted Karlin over to 3rd and reached first on an errant throw by the pitcher. With 1st and 3rd and the score tied, Karlin broke for home on a suicide squeeze. With the pitch in the dirt Karlin slid head first beating the tag by the catcher and giving the Falcons the 4-3 lead. Wyne then scored on a single by McNealy making the score 5-3. The Falcons added one more in the top of the 5th when Karlin once again sacrificed Loftus in from 3rd.

With the score in favor of the Falcons 6-3, the Campers came up in the bottom of the 5th and had 5 singles in 6 batters to score 4 runs and take the 7-6 lead. That would be all the Campers needed as the Falcons were unable to score in the 6th or 7th.

The game concluded an outstanding season by the Falcons (9-8). Coach Gardiner had this to say about the team, "This team had a tremendous amount of heart. We improved every day through the hard work and dedication of each member of the team. This was a close knit group that was a joy to coach. I am going to miss all of seniors as they have meant a lot to our program over the last four years. All four of the seniors are outstanding individuals."

Great job to the Falcons on a successful season.


Falcons and Campers Have to Wait One More Day

The Falcons have been rained out once again. The 1st Round playoff game vs. Allegany High School originally scheduled for Friday has been postponed again due to rain. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4pm at Allegany High School.

Falcons Roll Into Playoffs with Win Over Clarksburg

The Falcons had 12 hits on their way to a 8-4 win over Clarksburg in their final regular season game before the playoffs begin this Friday. Kevin McNealy was 3 for 4 with 2 runs, Tommy Hughes was 4 for 4 with 1 run and 2 rbi's, Nick Loftus was 2 for 4 with 1 run and 3 rbi's, and Daniel Young was 2 for 3 with 1 run.

The Falcons bats continue to be hot as the defense looked good also today. Six different pitchers combined to work the 7 innings. Tommy Hughes, Daniel Young, and Drew Karlin all worked one inning without giving up any runs. Dave Johnson looked great in the 3rd and 4th innings surrendering 0 runs. Max Heldman and Cory Wyne eached pitched one inning giving up 1 and 0 runs respectively.

The Falcons are now 9-7 heading into the Playoffs this Friday at Allegany High School.


Falcons Look Solid Against Northwood
May 3, 2008
The Falcons looked good today beating Northwood 6-3 in their fourth game in four days.

The game was locked up at 2-2 heading into the 6th inning when the Falcons broke the game wide open after Pat Zapata singled, Daniel Young followed with another single, Drew Karlin then singled in Zapata to take the 3-2 lead. The Falcons were not done, Cory Wyne then drove in 2 runs on a single to left and Nick Loftus doubled scoring Wyne from first on a hit and run. At the end of the 6th the Falcons had all they needed with a 6-2 lead. Northwood then put in one run in the top of the 7th to make the final score 6-3.

Tommy Hughes started for the Falcons and looked good in two innings of work allowing one unearned run. Dave Johnson came in to pitch the 3rd and 4th pitching very effectively allowing only one run on 2 hits. Daniel Young finished the last 3 innings pitching outstanding with 29 strikes to only 10 balls and allowing one run.

The win moved the Falcons to 8-7 heading into the Wednesday playoff draw for the 1A West Region.


Falcons Offense Looks Ready For Playoffs in Loss to Clarksburg
May 2, 2008
The Falcons had 15 hits including 2 Home Runs in a 9-8 loss to Clarksburg today.

Tommy Hughes homered in his 3rd straight game going 3 for 4 with 3 rbi's and 2 runs. Pat Zapata also homered driving in two runs after Hughes had doubled. Kevin McNealy continued to look good at the plate going 3 for 5 with one run. Cory Wyne has heated up in the last 3 games going 3 for 4 with 2 rbi's and 1 run.

Defensively the Falcons looked good as Drew Karlin came in relief in the 1st and pitched 4 strong innings. Max Heldman and Cory Wyne combined to finish the game.

The loss drops the Falcons to 7-7 heading into a game at home against Northwood tomorrow.


Brunswick Holds Off Late Inning Rally by Falcons
May 1, 2008
Brunswick (11-3) defeated the Falcons today 5-4 after being up 5-0 at one point in the game. The Falcons battled back behind a 3 run home run by Tommy Hughes and great hitting by Dave Johnson, Pat Zapata, and Max Heldman.

The Falcons pitching was once again outstanding as Nick Loftus went 3 2/3 innings yielding only 2 hits and giving up 0 earned runs. Max Heldman came in to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings as Brunswick only recorded one hit and 0 earned runs.

Coach Gardiner had this to say about the game, "We are getting better every game. Our pitching and hitting is outstanding, right now we are making one or two crucial mistakes in the field. I believe those are out of our system and our best baseball is coming up for the playoffs." Coach Gardiner was very positive about the team after the game as he felt the Falcons have turned the corner and are ready to go next Friday in the West Region of the 1A Tourney.

The Falcons (7-6) play at Clarksburg tomorrow at 3:30pm.


Falcons Lose a Tough Game to Damascus
April 30, 2008
The Falcons brought their bats to Damascus today racking up 12 hits with 2 doubles and 2 home runs, it was not enough though as Damascus won 7-5.

Dave Johnson led off the game with a home run, Kevin McNealy was 3 for 4 with 2 runs, and Tommy Hughes continued to be hot at the plate going 3 for 4 with 2 runs, a single, a double, and a home run. Nick Loftus was 1 for 2 with 2 sacrifices and 1 rbi. Pat Zapata also continued to look good at the plate going 2 for 4 with one shot off of the left centerfield wall and driving in 2 rbi's.

The Falcons looked strong on the mound with Tommy Hughes pitching 2 innings giving up 0 earned runs, Cory Wyne pitching 2 1/3 only giving up 2 hits, and Drew Karlin coming in to pitch 1 1/3 innings also surrendering 2 hits. The Falcons made 4 errors in the first two innings giving up 5 runs. With the score knotted at 5 in the bottom of the 5th with one out, Damascus hit a two run home run that would prove to be the difference.

The Falcons (7-5) play at Brunswick tomorrow night at 4:30.


Falcons Look Great Against Wheaton
April 26, 2008
The Falcons continued to show their great defense and outstanding pitching in a 7-0 win against Wheaton today.

Nick Loftus pitched 2 strong innings only giving up 2 hits, Max Heldman came in to pitch the next 4 innings surrending only 3 hits, and Cory Wyne finished the 7th striking out 2 batters with no hits. The Falcons defense did not make an error the entire game looking great as Wheaton put the ball into play.

Offensively the Falcons used their bats to hit, bunt, and slash bunt their way to 7 runs on 10 hits. Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit with Dane Hanscom leading the way going 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 rbi's. Daniel Young also reached base twice on a single and an error scoring once. Brad Oyer entered the game in the 6th drawing a walk, stealing 2 bases and scoring. Kevin McNealy also recorded 2 hits on the day going 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's.

The Falcons (7-4) are getting prepared to play four straight games next week starting on Wednesday at Damascus.


Falcons Come Back Again in 7th - Fall in 8th
April 24, 2008
The Falcons once again showed they are never out of a game. Entering the 7th inning at Seneca Valley down by 4 runs, the Falcons rallied to tie the game. Pat Zapata led off the inning with a solo home run which triggered Seneca to pull their starting pitcher. Drew Karlin and Cory Wyne singled. That brought up Dave Johnson with the score 4-1 and two outs. With two strikes Johnson hit a three hopper to the wall in right center scoring both runners on a double to make the score 4-3. Kevin McNealy then came up and with two strikes hit a line drive to left center that easily scored Johnson from 2nd base. Seneca then came back in the bottom of the 8th to score the winning run with one out.

Dave Johnson pitched six outstanding innings only allowing 4 hits and striking out 7. Drew Karlin came in to pitch an outstanding 7th inning and took a tough loss in the 8th after not giving up any hits in 1 1/3 innings. Coach Gardiner had this to say, "Both of our pitchers pitched outstanding today. Our team has tremendous heart, you can never count us out. I have full confidence that things are coming together and our best games are still ahead of us."

The Falcons (6-4) take on Wheaton this Saturday at home at 1:30pm.

Congratulations to the Falcons for finishing in sole possession of 2nd place in the newly formed 3A/2A/1A South Division with a 4-1 division record.


Brunswick and Seneca Games Rescheduled

The Falcons game versus Seneca Valley has been rescheduled for Thursday April 24th at 3:30pm at Seneca.

The Brunswick game scheduled for today has been postponed and the rescheduled date has yet to be determined.


Falcons Near Perfect in Win Over Einstein
April 19, 2008
Tommy Hughes pitched 5 perfect innings and had his no hitter broken up in the 6th inning surrendering a single, Einstein's only hit of the game. Drew Karlin came in to finish the game in the 7th as the Falcons won 4-0.

Nick Loftus and Dave Johnson each doubled, Johnson's going 350 and hitting the top of the wall to keep it in the park. Hughes came up two batters later and sent one over the 330 ft sign in left field for a two run homer. Max Heldman continued to look good at the plate singling in Pat Zapata in the 2nd inning. Zapata also drew two walks in the game. The Falcons were able to manufacture 4 runs on only 4 hits.


Falcons Come From Behind in 7th to Beat B-CC

The Falcons entered the bottom of the 7th inning down 4-0 today versus a tough B-CC team. 5 runs later the Falcons walked away with the win, 5-4.

Dave Johnson pitched 4 strong innings and Cory Wyne pitched the last 3 innings and recorded the win. B-CC scored all of 4 of their runs in separate innings as the Falcons defense was outstanding.

Falcons Look Good Against Kennedy
April 14, 2008
The Falcons had a big victory 14-0 over a much improved Kennedy team that had just come off of a 4-3 victory over B-CC.

Nick Loftus led the way on the hill and at the plate, pitching 3 shutout innings and going 4 for 5 with 2 singles, a double, and a home run along with 2 runs and 3 rbi's. Max Heldman came in to pitch 4 strong shutout innings only allowing 2 hits along the way. Heldman was also 3 for 3 from the plate. Daniel Young reached base 4 times in the lead off spot.

The Falcons racked up 19 hits, Kevin McNealy was 3 for 5, Tommy Hughes was 3 for 4 with a single, a double, and a home run. Drew Karlin was 2 for 4 and Cory Wyne and Pat Zapata each contributed one hit.

The Falcons play B-CC this Wednesday at home at 3:30.


Johnson Dominates Northwood Hitters
April 12, 2008
Dave Johnson pitched 4 strong innings striking out 8 Northwood batters in the 15-2 win. Max Heldman and Kevin McNealy pitched one shutout inning each.

Offensively the Falcons were hot at the plate. Pat Zapata is showing he is back with a 3 for 4 day driving in 3 runs and walking once. Kevin McNealy was 2 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 rbi's along with one walk, Drew Karlin was 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 rbi, and Cory Wyne for 1 for 2 with a double and 2 rbi's.

The Falcons are now 3-3 and will take on the Kennedy Cavaliers (3-1) on Monday at Kennedy at 3:30.


Falcons Comeback Against Whitman Falls Just Short
April 11, 2008
The Falcons played well against a tough Whitman team in a 7-6 loss today.

The Falcons racked up 9 hits in the 1st, 6th, and 7th innings. Drew Karlin led the way going 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 rbi's. Tommy Hughes scored twice and was 1 for 3. Dave Johnson continued to cross home plate scoring once also. Nick Loftus and Daniel Young also continued to hit well both going 1 for 3 with Loftus scoring one run and Young knocking in one rbi.

Tim Dalton started the game and was able to get out of some tough jams early on leaving the game in the 3rd with the score tied 3-3. Drew Karlin came in to pitch 4 strong innings continuing to show his ability to ptich well in tough situations only giving up 1 earned run. Cory Wyne finished the game iwth one strong inning of pitching.

The Falcons play Northwood tomorrow at 3pm at Northwood.


Falcons Fall to Strong Paint Branch Team
April 10, 2008
The Falcons fell to Paint Branch today 9-1. Nick Loftus pitched outstanding over 4 1/3 innings holding Paint Branch to 3 runs in the first four innings. He continuously kept the Panther hitters off balance with a mix of three different pitches, a dominating fastball, a wicked knuckle ball, and a perplexing offspeed pitch. Daniel Young and Cory Wyne pitched outstanding in relief to close out the last 2 2/3 innings.

Offensively Tommy Hughes continued to drive in runs with a single in the 7th scoring Kevin McNealy from 2nd base. Hughes ended the day 1 for 3 with the single, McNealy was also 1 for 3 with a single and a stolen base. Drew Karlin continued to hit well with a single in the second inning, Daniel Young and Max Heldman also recorded singles.

Coach Gardiner had this to say about the game, "I really like the way we played today. I do not think the score is reflective of the actual game. In reality we were in it almost the entire game and were one or two hits away from coming on strong and surprising Paint Branch. I am very encouraged by our great defensive plays today and the strong pitching of Nick Loftus and our bullpen (Daniel Young and Cory Wyne)."

The Falcons play Whitman tomorrow 3:30pm at home (Friday) as a make-up game.


Falcons comeback falls short against Rockville
April 9, 2008
The Falcons suffered their first loss of the young season. Rockville scored 9 runs to Poolesville's 7.

Tommy Hughes started on the hill, Cory Wyne and Drew Karlin combined to pitch 4 strong innings of relief only giving up one earned run.

Dave Johnson continued his strong hitting with a double and a 395 foot stand up triple. Hughes singled and scored in the first inning along with Nick Loftus, Drew Karlin, and Kevin McNealy. Daniel Young and Jimmy Tyler combined to draw four walks while Max Heldman was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 rbi's.

The Falcons play Paint Branch at home this Thursday at 3:30.


Game versus Whitman Postponed

The Game versus Whitman scheduled for Saturday April 5th has been postponed.

The Varsity game will be played on Friday April 11th at Poolesville at 3:30pm.

Falcons Post Win Number 2
April 2, 2008
The Falcons dropped a good Richard Montgomery team 16-9. Dave Johnson pitched three solid innings, Drew Karlin pitched the next three innings recording his first varsity win, and Cory Wyne finished off the Rockets in the 7th.

Dave Johnson and Tommy Hughes both hit stand up triples to straight away centerfield, 390 feet and 380 feet respectively. Kevin McNealy had a bases loaded bases clearing double that broke the game wide open in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Pat Zapata returned in his first game back in the field and reached base in both at bats (a single and a walk) and scored two runs. Dane Hanscom continued to play well at the #9 spot hitting a single and drawing a key walk. Max Heldman laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score a run with the bases loaded and two strikes.

The team continues to demonstrate that having fun is the key to success. Relaxing at the plate and enjoying playing led to the second straight double digit run total. In two games the Falcons have scored 36 runs.

The Falcons play Whitman this Saturday at 1:30 at home in a JV/Varsity double header (JV at 10am).

Falcons start off season with big win over Watkins Mill
March 31, 2008
The Falcons began the 2008 season in a big way with a 20-3 victory over Watkins Mill in 5 innings. Tommy Hughes recorded the win pitching 4 strong innings on the hill. Nick Loftus lead the way offensively going 3 for 5 with 4 rbi's and 3 runs, Kevin McNealy tripled and drove in 3 rbi's, and Daniel Young had a great day at the plate going 2 for 2 with 2 rbi's and 2 runs. Dane Hanscom also drove in 2 runs, scored twice, and had a single. Offensively a great day for the entire Falcons team.

Next game: At home vs Richard Montgomery on Wednesday at 3:30pm.


2008 Baseball Begins with Tryouts

Baseball tryouts will begin this Saturday March 1, 2008.

The JV and Varsity teams will tryout together. Tryouts will run from 11am to 2:15pm on the field.
Please have all forms turned in by this Friday to Coach Gardiner or Coach Orsini.

Campbell, Zapata, and Hughes Named All-Division

The Montgomery County Public School Baseball Coaches All-Division teams were announced today. Well deserved honors went to Senior Kevin Campbell (OF), Junior Pat Zapata (1B), and Junior Tommy Hughes (INF).

All three players had outstanding seasons for the Falcons.

Congratulations to the All-Division Players selected from Poolesville.

Parents defeat Players in Epic Battle
May 23, 2007
The Poolesville Parents defeated the Players tonight 4-3 at the first annual Parent/Player Softball Game.

"The Parents showed today why they are the ones with all of the experience," Coach Gardiner said after the game.

Team Captain Jason Kramek was overheard saying to his teammates, "Who are these guys, the Baltimore Orioles, they are amazing." Kevin Campbell later commented that the parent team was the best he had seen all year.

It was truly a great game with the players making a late rally in the bottom half of the last inning only to end the game on a fly-out to Coach Gardiner in deep left field while the bases were loaded.

Great job Parents and Players.


W.E.B. DuBois upsets Falcons in First Round of Playoffs
May 11, 2007
W.E.B. Dubois upset the Falcons today in the first round of the playoffs.

The Panthers played a great game upending the Falcons 10-9 in 7 innings. The Falcons staged a great comeback in the 7th to come within one run and went down fighting right until the end.

Coach Gardiner had this to say about his team, "I was very proud of the heart we displayed today, W.E.B. Dubois played a great game and despite our best efforts they came out on top."

The Falcons finished the season 8-10.

Congrats to all of the players for a great year.


Playoff Draw Announced for Falcons
May 8, 2007
The State Playoff Draw has been announced.

Poolesville ended with an 8-8 record and that was close to the #4 seed. Surratsville of PG County ended up playing a double header yesterday and won both to grab the fourth seed with a 9-7 record.

Poolesville was then given a ping-pong ball and randomly seeded. The #9 seed is where Poolesville ended up.

The first round will begin for the Falcons this Friday at W.E.B. Dubois in Baltimore City.

Falcons beat Watkins Mill 12-2 on Senior Day
May 7, 2007
The Falcons celebrated Senior Day today honoring seniors Jason Kramek (Captain), Kevin Campbell (Captain), Dylan Burton, Alex Patterson, and Mark Saxman.

Kevin Campbell led the Falcons at the plate coming one double shy of hitting for the cycle, he was 4 for 4 with 2 singles, a triple, and a 2 run home run over the left field fence. Tommy Hughes continued his great hitting going 2 for 3 with a double and a triple, also adding 2 runs and an rbi. Nick Loftus also continued to hit well going 3 for 4 with 2 runs. Dave Johnson and Alex Patterson were 2 for 4 each, and Mark Saxman continued to show why he is so valuable in the second lead-off position going 2 for 3 with one run.

The pitching was outstanding for the Falcons as Mark Saxman started and got the win, Dave Johnson and Cory Wyne also pitched very well for the Falcons.

The win pushed the Falcons to 8-8 overall as they prepare for the playoff draw. The playoff draw will be announced late Tuesday.

The playoffs will begin this Friday.


Falcons rally in the 6th falls just short against Churchill

The Falcons rallied in the 6th to score 7 runs and bring the score to 8-7 against Churchill. The Falcons could not get the tieing run and Churchill took the victory.


Falcons lose to WJ in the 7th

The Falcons played outstanding today out-hitting WJ and looking great in the field. WJ stormed back in the 7th down 5-2 to win the game 6-5.


Falcons play great, beat Rockville 11-6
May 1, 2007
The Falcons played great beating Rockville 11-6 to finish 5-4 in the 1A/2A/3A Division.

Kevin Campbell led the way at the plate reaching base 4 times with 2 singles, a double, and one walk. Campbell scored 3 times in the first 3 innings. Jason Kramek came up big in the 3rd with a 2 out bases loaded double that scored 2 runs and gave the Falcons the lead back at 5-3.

Tommy Hughes continued to be on fire at the plate going 3 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 rbi's. Nick Loftus also continued his hot hitting going 2 for 4. Alex Patterson has been right along with Hughes and Loftus going 3 for 4 with 2 singles, a double and scoring 3 runs.

Mark Saxman has been showing why he may be the best second lead-off man in the county once again reaching base on almost every at-bat. Saxman was 2 for 2 with 2 singles, he reached base on all four at-bats and scored 2 runs.

Coach Gardiner had this to say, "Our team has been hitting very well in the past couple of games. We have shown improvement at the plate all year and our hard work on bunting and slash bunting is really paying off."

The Falcons next game is at home this Thursday versus Walter Johnson.


Falcons come back in 7th, Seneca answers in bottom half to win 5-4

The Falcons fought back in the top of the 7th down by 2 runs to tie the score at 4-4. Seneca answered in the bottom half on a double with 1 out to win 5-4.

Tommy Hughes continued his tear at the plate going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored. Dave Johnson sent a shot off of the left-field wall early in the game to get an rbi. Cory Wyne was 2 for 3 including a lead off single in the 7th inning. After Wyne's single, Alex Patterson laid down a great sacrifice bunt to move Wyne to second. Mark Saxman then singled to right and advanced to second base on the throw to third where Wyne showed his speed advancing from first to third on the bloop single to right. Kevin Campbell then came to bat and hit an outstanding ground ball to the right side to score Wyne. Pat Zapata then came to the plate with two outs and down one run with Wyne on third. Zapata hit the first pitch hard right up the middle for the clutch single scoring the tieing run. Zapata ended the game 2 for 4 with a double off of the center-field wall in addition to his single in the 7th.

Dave Johnson, Tommy Hughes, Cory Wyne, and Nick Loftus all combined to pitch well for the Falcons.

The loss drops the Falcons to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the 1A/2A/3A division.


Falcons drop second in a row to Wheaton

The Falcons bats came alive in the 5th and 7th innings, but it was not enough as Wheaton won 7-5.

Tommy Hughes continued to be hot at the plate going 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's. Dylan Burton added a clutch hit in the 7th also scoring a run coming in for the injured Jason Kramek. Mark Saxman continued to play well in the second lead-off position going 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and reaching base twice out of three at-bats.

The Falcons are now 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the 1A/2A/3A division.

Their next game is this Saturday at Seneca Valley.


Falcons offense looks good but not enough versus Paint Branch
April 24, 2007
The Falcons lost a tough divsional game to Paint Branch 16-5 in 5 innings today.

Paint Branch came out swinging early recording 3 runs in the first and 4 in the second. The Falcons came back in the 3rd inning scoring 2 runs on a lead off single by Colin Monday, Alex Patterson almost had an infield single that moved Monday to 2nd. Kevin Campbell came up with 2 outs in the inning and drove the pitch off of the centerfield wall for a triple scoring Monday. Pat Zapata then singled to score Campbell.

Paint Branch broke the game open with 9 runs in the 3rd. The Falcons offense did not give up scoring 3 more runs in the 5th inning. Mark Saxman led off the inning with a single. Kevin Campbell reached on an error that scored Mark Saxman. Jason Kramek then laid down an excellent suicide squeeze bunt with two strikes to score Campbell. Tommmy Hughes then came to the plate and hit a solo homerun that cleared a house located behind the left-field fence.

The Falcons moved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the division.

Their next game is Thursday at home versus Wheaton.


Saxman leads way in Falcons win.
April 21, 2007
The Falcons defeated Kennedy 6-1 today.

Mark Saxman no hit Kennedy for 5 innings facing only 16 batters while recording 10 strikeouts. He gave way to Nick Loftus who did an outstanding job pitching the 6th and 7th innings. Kennedy broke up the no-hitter with one out in the 7th on a single.

Nick Loftus led the way at the plate going 3 for 3 with 2 rbi's. Tommy Hughes was 2 for 2 with 1 run and reached base a third time on a walk. Hughes also set the tone early in the game throwing out a Kennedy baserunner in the first inning on a steal attempt. Kevin Campbell continued to play strong with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases in the lead-off position.

The Falcons moved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the 1A/2A/3A division.

The next game is this Tuesday at Paint Branch. Paint Branch is currently tied for 1st in the divison with a 4-0 record.


Falcons defeat Einstein 7-3
April 17, 2007
The Falcons defeated Einstein 7-3 today.

Tommy Hughes pitched 4 2/3 strong innings shutting down the Titans by allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while throwing 41 strikes and 18 balls. Nick Loftus came in to pitch the 6th and 7th innings allowing 0 runs with 0 hits.

Pat Zapata fueled the offense going 1 for 3 with a 380 foot home run over the right-centerfield fence. Tommy Hughes contributed with 2 singles going 2 for 4, Nick Loftus continued to be hot at the plate with 2 singles going 2 for 4, and Mark Saxman reached based 3 times with 2 walks and a hit by pitch in addition to a sacrifice fly that scored Dave Johnson.

The Falcons are now 3-1 in the 1A/2A/3A division and 5-3 overall.

Their next game is against Kennedy this Saturday at home.

Falcons lose to B-CC 10-5
April 14, 2007
The Falcons lost to B-CC this afternoon 10-5. The loss drops the team to 2-1 in the 3A/2A/1A division and 4-3 overall.

B-CC hit the ball very well against the Falcons having 10 runs with 14 hits.

Bright spots for the Falcons included a 3 for 4 day from Jason Kramek with 2 runs. Pat Zapata added 2 more runs going 1 for 2.

Tommy Hughes, Mark Saxman, Dave Johnson, and Nick Loftus combined to pitch against B-CC. Tommy Hughes also threw out 2 runners while catching. Outstanding defense was displayed during 2 rundowns the Falcons executed perfectly to get the B-CC runners out.

The next game for the Falcons is this Tuesday at Einstein. This is another big division game for the Falcons who are currently tied for 2nd place.

Falcons offense continues in 17-7 win over Northwood

The Falcons continued to show their offensive firepower with 17 runs against Northwood. Kevin Campbell led the way going 6 for 6 with 3 rbi's. Dave Johnson hit a home run that traveled 370 feet over the left-centerfield fence. Nick Loftus was also outstanding going 2 for 5 with 4 runs.

The Falcons pitching was strong as well as Dave Johnson, Tommy Hughes, and Nick Loftus did not allow a hit from Northwood. Colin Monday pitched very strongly in the 3rd and 4th innings.

The next game for the Falcons is this Saturday versus B-CC.


Falcons beat Blair 19-9
March 29, 2007
The Falcons beat Blair 19-9 in an offensive explosion.

With 5 runs in the 1st and 9 in the 5th, the Falcons scored 19 runs on 15 hits. Pat Zapata was 3 for 4 and reached base 4 times. Alex Patterson delivered in the big 5th inning with a double that scored 3 rbi's.

Great pitching performances were turned in by Mark Saxman and Cory Wyne. Tommy Hughes started the game with 2 strong innings and then came back in relief to finish the game pitching the 7th. Another outstanding outing for the pitching staff.

The Falcons are now 3-2 and 1-0 in the 3A/2A/1A division. Their next game is versus Northwood on April 11th.


Falcons Drop a Tough One to Quince Orchard
March 28, 2007
The Falcons drop a tough game to Quince Orchard.

Heading into the top of the 4th the Falcons were down 2-1, Quince Orchard proceeded to score 9 runs in the 4th to extend their lead to 11-1. The Falcons began to mount a comeback as they headed into the 7th innning down 12-3. Quince Orchard went on to score 9 runs in the inning to win the game 21-3.

Strong pitching performances were turned in by Dave Johnson, Mark Saxman, Cory Wyne and Kevin McNealy. Jason Kramek, Colin Monday, and Pat Zapata also showed outstanding effort in pitching for the Falcons.

Strong offensive efforts were turned in by Kevin Campbell who reached base 3 times including a triple, Pat Zapata with a double and 1 rbi, Jason Kramek 1 for 3, Alex Patterson 1 for 3, Cory Wyne 1 for 3, Colin Monday 1 for 2.

The Falcons next game is at Blair tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm.


Falcons Take Extra Innings To Down Clarksburg 5-4

The Falcons defeat Clarksburg 5-4 in 8 innings.

The Falcons tied the game in the bottom of the 7th inning on a sacrifice fly by Dave Johnson that scored Tommy Hughes from 3rd base. Colin Monday than came to bat in the 8th inning with 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd with the game tied. He singled to left to score Kevin Campbell and win the game.

Strong offensive efforts were given by Nick Loftus who was 3 for 3 and reached base on a walk while scoring 1 run and 2 RBI's. Tommy Hughes was 2 for 4 with a single and a double while scoring 2 runs.

Another strong pitching effort was turned in by Mark Saxman, Tommy Hughes, Nick Loftus, and Cory Wyne.



Falcons beat Northwest 7-3
March 23, 2007
The Falcons defeat Northwest 7-3.

Dave Johnson, Mark Saxman, Tommy Hughes, Cory Wyne, and Nick Loftus combined over 7 innings to hold Northwest to 3 runs. Dave Johnson started the game very strong, Tommy Hughes pitched an outstanding 3 innings, throwing 24 strikes and only 6 balls.

Kevin Campbell made an amazing catch in right center field in the bottom of the 7th inning to secure the win. Kevin also went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a single. He also walked and scored 3 runs. Pat Zapata went 2 for 4 with a single and a critical double in the 6th inning scoring 2 runs.



Falcons lose a heartbreaker to Einstein in opener 3-2
March 21, 2007
The Falcons dropped a tough one to Einstein 3-2 in the opener. Kevin Campbell was 2 for 4 with 2 runs, Tommy Hughes was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI, Nick Loftus was 1 for 2, and Alex Patterson was 1 for 3. Jason Kramek contributed with a great sacrifice bunt that scored Kevin Campbell from second base.

The pitching for the Falcons was outstanding. Mark Saxman, Tommy Hughes, Cory Wyne, and Nick Loftus combined to hold Einstein to 3 hits over 7 innings with 0 earned runs.



Scrimmages for tomorrow versus Brunswick Cancelled
Due to the continuing wet weather, the JV and Varsity scrimmages versus Brunswick have been cancelled.

Varsity Practice on Friday will be at 5:15 in the New Gym. There will be no JV practice on Friday.

Pre-Season Workouts Begin
January 4, 2007
Pre-Season Workouts begin on Thursday, January 4th.

Pre-Season Workouts will continue through the months of Janaury and February every Tuesday and Thursday in the Weight Room beginning at 2:25pm.

Throwing will follow weight workouts for 15 minutes. Contact Alex Patterson for any questions about Throwing times.

All players are expected to be running 1 mile twice a week. Remember to work up to jogging 1 mile at a constant rate. Begin at a jog/walk pace.
