Park goes up 2-0 with thrilling 4-3 win
Game two began auspiciously for the Cardinals as Brandon Gaber hit Tim Reeves with the pitch. Reeves then proceeded to steal second, then advanced to third as the throw went into center field. He then scored on a wild pitch. That was all the Park could muster on Gaber for 5 1/3 innings. Mike Montano matched Gaber pitch for pitch. It was the top of the sixth when Brian Trail blasted a mammoth home run to break up the no-hit bid and give the Park a 3-0 lead. They added one more on a double by Tim Reeves, who took third on another errant pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Chris Zimmerman. The Cards then rallied in the bottom of the 6th with 3 runs, including a two-out, two-run single by Josh Kliewer, but Montano stopped the bleeding there for a 4-3 win and a 2-0 series lead for the Parkers. Game three is Friday at 7:00.
Parkers take game one
The Parkers fell behind early, but powered up to put away the Cardinals in Game one 9-3. Jim Stuart went 6 innings and struck out 10 Cards. Chris Zimmerman homered twice and Chris Rickert once.
Cardinals advance to series
The Cardinals had to win 2 1/2 times on Sunday to advance, and they accomplished just that. First, in the resumption of Friday's rain-suspended game vs. Duckett's, the Cards rallied with 5 runs in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th to win 9-1.
In the first game of the final vs. the Red Sox, the Cardinals Nick Van Dike outdueled the Sox Joe Watros in a game which was scoreless through 3 innings. The Cards then got a spark from an opposite field home run from Tim Soldan to break the ice, and went on the score the victory, 7-0, to force a second and decisive game.
In the final game, Chris Czuback battled arm soreness and blanked the Sox through 3 innings. That set the stage for Brandon Gaber, who had already won the suspended game earlier. He held the Sox close until the Cards were able to put together a 7 run 5th inning. That was all Gaber needed to secure his second win of the day, as the Cards cruised to the 11-3 win and the right to face the Parkers in the championship series, beginning Wednesday at 7:00.
