Varsity Season Over
October 25, 2011 —
The 25th-seeded Radnor varsity were ousted from the playoffs by a very strong 8th-seeded North Penn after a 3-0 loss. North Penn, ranked #9 in the Philadelphia Inquirer's Southeastern Pa. boys' soccer Top 10 poll as of Oct 25, 2011, was a skilled and tenacious squad. They were able to get on the scoreboard early in the first half after an own goal off of a long throw-in by North Penn. A few minutes later, North Penn capitalized again off of a nice low cross from the left side that was put in the net by the North Penn forward. Their third goal was registered just a minute after that when the NP forward reached the ball just outside the box right as Radnor’s goalie and defender were converging and chipped it high over the keeper and the ball bounced in the net before the defender could reach it. NP did a good job in the first half never allowing Radnor to get untracked and string together passes to mount anything threatening. The Raiders came out in the second half with a more offensive formation and had the play more in the NP end but could never get a quality chance.
The Raiders were rewarded with a fine season by making the playoffs out of the tough Central League but were thwarted by a very tough opponent. The team looks forward to celebrating their season at the end-of year banquet where they will bid adieu to the ten seniors: Peter Jacome, Alec Fischman, Eric Hotaling, Mike Cox, Charlie Harper, Dean DerSimonian, Shane Hickey, Kevin Hartnett, Brian Sachs, and Alex Hayes.

Freshman Game Postponed
October 24, 2011 —
The freshmen team's game against Neshaminy High School has been moved to tomorrow, October 25th
Playoff Bound - Tues. Oct. 25th @ North Penn, 7pm
October 22, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity earn a district playoff bid after finishing regular season with a 1-0 loss to Penncrest and a 4-1 win against Archbishop Carroll.
The Raiders hosted Penncrest on Senior Night. After a nice ceremony celebrating the ten seniors, Radnor went out with a great opportunity to secure a district playoff bid with a win in their last regular season Central league game. Unfortunately for Radnor, there was a defensive miscommunication at the 5 minute mark that led to the game’s only goal by Penncrest. That would be one of only two quality chances Penncrest would have all game. Radnor had numerous chances but either the shots were not on the frame or the Penncrest goalie made the save. With 16 minutes left in the game, Penncrest was awarded a penalty kick which, most likely, would have sealed the win. The penalty was missed which further invigorated the Raiders. The Raiders continued to pepper the goal for the remainder of the game but just could not capitalize.
The Raiders final game found them giving a dominating performance at Carroll, winning 4-1. After numerous chances throughout the first half, Radnor finally broke through with two goals separated by a few minutes towards the end of the half. The first was scored by Nico Pelaez and the second was scored by Chris Martin. The second half was more of the same domination. Peter Donato scored on a penalty and Charlie Harper, scoring his first goal of the season, ended the scoring for Radnor.
The team knew they lost a great opportunity to solidify a playoff bid with their loss to Penncrest. However, even though their record was not overly impressive, their overall play left an impressive mark as they received the good news about making the playoffs.
Radnor finished the regular season 7-9-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the Central League. Their first round playoff game will be against North Penn on 10/25/Tuesday, 7pm.
JV Completes Historic Season
October 20, 2011 —
Matt Pelton and Sam Camp scored in the first half and then Gerardo Montiel, Teddy Blickwedel and Matt again put the ball in the net in the second half in the 5 - 0 win. Radnor controlled all facets of the game and at the end was just peppering the Carroll goalie with shots. Brad Martin had two excellent shots stopped on diving saves or the score would have been even more in Radnor's favor.
Radnor JV ends its season 13 - 1, scored 29 goals with an incredible 1 goal against. Congratulations to goalies Jud Solomon and Ryan Freedman and the entire JV defense!!! Thank you to coach Horace Campbell as well for the great coaching!
Sam Camp's Goal Leads Radnor JV to Another Victory
October 18, 2011 —
About 5 minutes into the game, Sam Camp took a nice pass from Adam Erkis and hit an amazing shot that clipped the crossbar prior to going into the back of the net. Radnor thought they had a second goal (twice!) when Mike Kleinman's shot that looked like it went in was put in the top corner(again) by Teddy Blickwedel but the "referee" did not see it that way and allowed play to continue.
Radnor held on during a rough second half with the ball in their defensive end most of the time. Brad Martin, Andrew Lundstrom, Connor Mullaney and a very solid Fernando Summo kept Penncrest off the board. Ryan Friedman made several athletic stops for another shutout.
Varsity Blows Out Springfield
October 13, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity played host to Springfield in another vital Central League game and came away with a convincing 4-0. With the win, Radnor’s playoff hopes stay alive. Springfield, boasting a 5-2-2 Central League record, is one of the teams ahead of the Raiders in the standings so this was an important game for both squads. In the first half, Radnor carried the majority of play but went into halftime 0-0. Realizing a tie would not help their playoff aspirations, the Raiders came out for the 2nd half even more dominating but still couldn’t find the back of the net. On three different occasions, a Radnor player had a shot opportunity in the right side of the box but either didn’t strike it cleanly or missed the mark. However, one could sense the team was imposing their will on the opponent. With about 22 minutes left in regulation, Peter Jacome was inserted at forward and had a hand in the windfall of goals that followed over the next 15 minutes. The first goal arose due to a left footed cross from Jacome from the left sideline that found its way to Dean DerSimonian right of center, just outside the box. He settled the ball and got off an accurately placed, low shot past the diving goalie just inside the far post into the side netting. With that, the flood gates opened. Jacome, 5 minutes later and from nearly the same spot as DerSimonian, tallied the 2nd goal in similar fashion to the first. Just a few minutes later, the ball was once again down by the Springfield goal. Jacome headed the ball off a Springfield defender’s body and the ball went over the keeper’s head. The last goal was scored with just a few minutes remaining as Nico Pelaez dribbled the ball on the left end line 20 yards from goal and delivered a perfect assist to Mike Cox at the 6 yard line, who proceeded to bury it top shelf.
Radnor is currently 4-4-2 in the Central League and 6-8-2 overall. Their next game is home against Penncrest 10/18/Tuesday @ 7:00pm. It is their last Central League game and will act as a backdrop to Radnor Gents Senior night.
Another Solid Win for JV
October 13, 2011 —
Radnor JV thoroughly dominated the Springfield JV along the way to a 2 - 0 win. The first goal was a real beauty. Matt Pelton stepped in front of a pass in midfield and took the ball into the penalty box towards the right of the goal. He was stopped by a Springfield defender and dropped the ball to Mike Kleinman who was on the outside toward the corner flag. Mike hit a wonderful cross over the head of the Springfield goalie towards the back post where Teddy Blickwedel was there to head it into the net. Zach Saionz scored in the second half to finish the scoring. Ryan Freedman gained the shutout in goal. Radnor JV moves to 11 - 1 on the season with two games remaining.
Radnor JV Wins Hard Fought Game Against SH
October 11, 2011 —
Radnor scored in the middle of the first half and held on to win against a tough Strathhaven team at Strathhaven. Gerardo Montiel sent a fantastic cross to Sam Camp who calmly settled the ball and buried it in the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
Fernando Summo was outstanding in defense seemingly stopping every SH charge. When the ball did get through, Ryan Freedman was always there and made a very nice charging save in the first half to stop the best scoring chance by SH.
Radnor JV goes to 10 - 1 on the season with the win.
Another Overtime Battle
October 11, 2011 —
Radnor varsity traveled to Strath Haven and lost 1-0. The lone goal was scored with just one minute remaining in the first overtime on a penalty kick. This game, with playoff implications for both teams, was very competitive and evenly played. Both teams had very few quality chances throughout. In the first half, Radnor’s Erik Hotaling ripped a free kick from 40 yards out that the SH goalie was able to punch out. In the second half, Radnor’s Alec Fischman had a nice cross to teammate Kevin Hartnett, who’s ground shot went just wide of the goal post. Peter Jacome did an outstanding job of man-marking Strath Haven’s skilled and potent striker and not allowing him to get into a rhythm for the majority of the game. Radnor’s backline of Peter Donato, Dalton Morris, and Hotaling also played a very strong game. With about a minute left in the first OT, Strath Haven’s striker chased a ball down in the right offensive corner, dribbled back into the box and was fouled by a Radnor defender leading to the eventual game-winning penalty kick.
Radnor is currently 3-4-2 in the Central League and 5-8-2 overall. Their next game is home against Springfield 10/13/Thursday @ 3:45pm.
Radnor Tops Harriton
October 5, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity played host to the visiting Harriton Rams on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon and beat them 2-0. It was only the 2nd time in the Raiders 14 matches in which the outcome was decided by more than one goal. This victory was due to a stalwart effort by the Raiders backline manned by Peter Donato, Erik Hotaling, Matt Lundstrom, and Dalton Morris. They did an outstanding job in front of goalie Wes Dickson who was only severely tested once when the game was in the balance and made the save of the game late in the 2nd half.
The 1st half started skittishly for Radnor as they were not able to put together anything cohesively. Midway through the half, in a five minute stretch, Radnor had its two most promising chances. The first resulted in a great pass from midfielder Tyler Helms to forward Alec Fischman in between two Harriton defenders. Fischman got the ball inside the 18 and fired a shot, forcing the goalie to make a diving save. The other opportunity had forward Chris Martin on the left sideline, about 25 yards out, delivering a cross into the box that midfielder Kevin Hartnett headed just wide. Harriton also had two good chances in the first half. On the first, their defender took a free kick around midfield and put a shot heading towards the right upper 90 that Dickson was able to knock out for a corner kick. On that resulting corner, Harriton delivered a ball smack in front of the Radnor goal that was headed over the goal. The first half ended 0-0.
Five minutes into the 2nd half, Radnor put together some nice quick passes between Hartnett and Martin which brought the ball just outside the box on the left side of the field. Martin then slotted a perfectly weighted ball just inside the box to midfielder Dean DerSimonian who, with his left foot, calmly placed the ball past the diving goalie into the far side netting. Harriton tried in vain for the equalizer and only really threatened with less than 10 minutes left in the game. The first opportunity arose on a quick counterattack after a Radnor corner kick. The Harriton forward, from the right side, served the ball inside the Radnor box as both teams were rushing towards the Radnor defensive end. Fortunately for Radnor, Matt Lundstrom was able to get back and head the ball away before it would have landed among a few Harriton players just salivating at the opportunity for that ball to get through. The second opportunity arose from similar circumstances on a counterattack for Harriton with 5 minutes to play. They got the ball right in front of the goal outside the box. The Harriton player blistered a shot only to be rejected by the diving Wes Dickson allowing Radnor to maintain the one goal lead. On the ensuing corner kick with 4 minutes to play, Harriton brought all their field players into the box looking for the equalizer and placed their goalie at midfield, effectively making him another field player. This time, Radnor was able to start a quick counter of their own by heading the corner delivery to Martin at about 35 yards out. This turn of events provided an opportunity you rarely see on the soccer pitch. Martin just had the goalie to beat, but on his own side of the field, and he easily dribbled the keeper, took a few strides into the offensive end and delivered the insurance goal.
Radnor is currently 3-3-2 in the Central League and 5-7-2 overall. Their next game is at Strath Haven 10/11/Tuesday @ 5:30pm.
JV Record at 9 - 1 After Routing Harriton
October 5, 2011 —
The JV scored 4 second half goals and Ryan Freedman had a strong game in goal in a 4 - 0 win against Harriton. Adam Erkis started the scoring with a left footed strike that bounced off of a Harriton defender and into the goal. Adam assisted on the second goal with a beautifully placed corner kick that went directly to Matt Pelton who headed it into the net. Jud Solomon and Tommy Locher also scored.
Most impressively, this is the JV's 9th shutout of the season and they have only allowed 1 goal all season.
Radnor Varsity Beats Haverford High 2-1
October 4, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity traveled to Haverford High Monday and came away with a tightly contested 2-1 victory. Alec Fischman got Radnor off to a quick start at the 10 minute mark by anticipating and stealing a pass between the Haverford defenders. He took a touch to get inside the right side of the box and delivered a quality finish right out of a FIFA video game that beat the goalie for the lead. Radnor continued to get quality chances as Chris Martin also had a good opportunity but his shot deflected off the post and went out. Haverford was not able to threaten much as the backline of Erik Hotaling, Peter Donato, Matt Lundstrom, and Dalton Morris did a good job of stifling any Haverford opportunity. Right before the half, Radnor almost built on the lead as Dean DerSimonian beat the defender with the ball to the right corner and delivered a nice cross that was met by a teammate’s head but the shot went wide.
The 2nd half started with another great chance for Radnor as Fischman got the ball on a counterattack, 1-v-1 against a Fords central defender. Fischman megged the defender as he went from the right side of the box to the middle and got a strong shot off with his left foot. Just as it seemed he was about to register his second goal of the match, the goalie got a glove on it and deflected it off the goal post and away from danger. Haverford finally broke through a few minutes later as their forward caught goalie Wes Dickson off his line and dribbled to the side and scored to tie the game. However, the Fords excitement and tie were short-lived. On the ensuing tap, Martin and Alex Hayes, with effective, short passing back and forth, brought the ball into the offensive end of field. Ultimately, Hayes ended up with the ball on the left sideline about 30 yards away from the end line and delivered a gorgeous service into the box. It sailed over everyone’s heads, to the right of the goal frame, onto the waiting foot of DerSimonian, who settled it with one touch and blasted it in from a tight angle to regain the lead. Radnor continued to control play due to the solid midfield play of Kevin Hartnett, Tyler Helms, Nico Pelaez, Kevin Riley, and Mike Cox, who never allowed Haverford to string together multiple passes while providing opportunities to the Radnor forwards with quick, crisp passes. Helms and Hartnett, in particular, dominated the middle of the field with their effective play. As the game wound down in the final minute, the Fords were able to garner two threatening free kicks. Neither was put on frame and Radnor celebrated its second consecutive win.
Radnor is currently 2-3-2 in the Central League and 4-7-2 overall. Their next game is home against Harriton 10/5/Wednesday @ 3:45pm.

JV Rolls Along
October 3, 2011 —
Radnor JV continued its very strong play with a 1 - 0 win against a strong Haverford team. Jud Solomon made several good saves and the defense of Andrew Lundstrom, Gerardo Montiel, Brad Martin, Connor Mullaney and Chipper O'Sullivan were very strong. Adam Erkis scored late in the first half and Radnor had the better of play in the second half to move to 8 - 1 on the season.
Radnor Varsity Beats Christipher Dock 1-0
October 3, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity beat the visitors from Christopher Dock 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Radnor came out of the gate strong and at the ten minute mark had a fantastic chance to take the lead. Forward Chris Martin anticipated a run to track down defender Erik Hotaling’s long goal kick as it bounced over the Christopher Dock’s defensemen. Martin had a near breakaway from 30 yards out but, unfortunately for Radnor, his penultimate touch was a bit too hard as he was entering the goal box, which gave the Dock goalie an opportunity to come out and cut down the angle. Martin still reached the ball first and his shot avoided the onrushing goalie but just went wide of the far goal post. At the 26 minute mark, Radnor was able to capitalize. Sander Yu was fouled which provided Radnor a direct kick from approximately 35 yards out. Hotaling took the free kick and struck the ball well. The ball bounced right near the goal line as the goalie dove to his right but it squirted through for the Radnor lead. The first half played out with Radnor carrying the play and never being threatened by Dock. The 2nd half favored Christopher Dock as they tried for the equalizer. Their most promising chance came with 10 minutes left when their creative forward split two of Radnor’s defenders and emerged from the right corner to provide a dangerous low cross through the box. His teammate deflected the ball towards goal but Radnor goalie, Wes Dickson, was in the proper position to make the quick-reflex save to preserve the deserved win. Radnor now begins a crucial five game stretch against Central League opponents.
Radnor is currently 1-3-2 in the Central League and 3-7-2 overall. Their next game is at Haverford High 10/3/Monday @ 3:45pm.

Radnor Varsity Loses to Conestoga 2-1 (2OT)
September 30, 2011 —
The Radnor varsity lost to the Central League leading Conestoga Pioneers 2-1 (2OT) in front of a packed house, with both teams having good representation under the lights. The perennial power and Central League leading Pioneers, boasting an 8-0-1 record, had only given up two goals in their previous nine games. Radnor, whose record does not reflect the team’s play, knew they were in for a challenge against one of the top teams in the state and the #1 team in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Southeastern Pennsylvania boys’ soccer Top 10 as of 9/27/11. The first half started out with most of the play in the Radnor end with Conestoga getting some shots from distance but none on the frame. Radnor was able to muster some offensive play and had some shots on goal but none to threatening. Radnor was certainly holding their own against the powerful Pioneers, with the help of strong midfield play of Tyler Helms, Peter Donato, and Kevin Hartnett.
The second half started and play continued to be spirited and even. On one play, Radnor forward Alec Fischman passed a ball to Kevin Hartnett, about 35 yards out. With his back to the Conestoga goal, Hartnett punted the ball towards goal. The Conestoga goalie, who was off his line, frantically was trying to get back just as the threatening ball landed on top of the net. Radnor continued to mount pressure, behind Chris Martin’s dogged efforts. With 28 minutes left, Martin was taken down in the box and Radnor was awarded a penalty. Erik Hotaling stepped up and drilled the ball top right shelf to give Radnor the 1-0 lead. Conestoga, as expected, was working hard for the equalizer. The Radnor defense, anchored by Hotaling, Sander Yu, Shane Hickey, Dalton Morris, and substitutes Matt Lundstrom and Mike Cox, were putting up a formidable wall. For anything that did get through the defense, Radnor goalie, Wes Dickson, was there to clean up. That is, until 15 minutes left in the game. Conestoga, on a counterattack, got a ball to their speedy right winger in transition. After a couple of strides, once in the box, he blasted a shot that eluded Dickson for the 1-1 tie. The intense game continued with each team periodically making noise in the offensive end. Some of the better chances for Radnor came on Dean DerSimonian’s corner kicks put right in the box but none could not be converted. The game ended in regulation 1-1. In the second overtime, Conestoga, after a turnover by the Radnor defender at midfield, got the ball to their forward who dribbled towards the left side of the box while challenged by a Radnor defender. The Conestoga player went down in the box and after some hesitation the referee blew the whistle and called a foul on Radnor. After consulting with the other referee, Conestoga was awarded a penalty which they converted for the win.
Radnor is currently 1-3-2 in the Central League and 2-7-2 overall. Their next game is at home versus Christopher Dock 10/1/Saturday @ 3:00pm.

Radnor Varsity Loses to Shipley 3-2
September 24, 2011 —
On Saturday afternoon, Radnor Raiders varsity lost 3-2 to Shipley on the Gator’s new home turf field. Radnor was without its usual starting goalie who had received a red card the previous game. Shipley’s creative and dynamic forward was responsible for all three Shipley’s goals in the first half with two goals and an assist. Radnor, facing a 3-0 deficit at halftime, came out with more life and scored their first goal four minutes into the half. The goal was due to a beautiful serve by defender Erik Hotaling to Kevin Hartnett, who placed a pinpoint header into the corner of the goal, not giving the goalie any chance. The fired up Raiders continued to press and a just a few minutes later shrunk the lead to 3-2. Chris Martin received a ball, holding a defender on his back, about 40 yards out. Martin turned with the ball and the footrace towards goal was on. Even with the Shipley defender grabbing his jersey, Martin was able to fend him off while maintaining possession of the ball. Just inside the box on the right side, Martin struck a controlled, hard grounder past the diving goalie just inside the far post. Radnor had 32 minutes left to find the equalizer. Even though the majority of play ended up in Shipley’s end, Radnor could not convert. The handful of free kicks and, with the narrow field, the offensive end throw-ins provided numerous opportunities in the box for Radnor but to no avail.
Radnor is currently 1-2-2 in the Central League and 2-6-2 overall. Their next game is at home versus Conestoga 9/27/Tues @ 7:00pm.

Radnor Varsity vs. Upper Darby
September 21, 2011 —
Radnor varsity and visiting Upper Darby played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday afternoon. There were not many quality chances for Radnor in the first half. Chris Martin had a some promising serves from the right side from 40 yards out. On the first one, just as it appeared left midfielder Alex Hayes was lining up to meet it, the active Upper Darby goalie came out and grabbed it. Later in the first half, Upper Darby had a free kick from 30 yards out in front of the Radnor goal. A well struck ball was headed for the upper right corner but was deflected by Radnor goalie Wes Dickson. The deflected ball hit the crossbar and fell back into Dickson’s arms. The second half started with Radnor causing some havoc in the UD end. The ball ended up at the feet of Radnor’s Ryan Cutler who blasted a shot that clanged off of the crossbar. Just a couple of minutes later, UD created some of their own havoc when a player from each team were battling for a ball rolling towards the goal inside the Radnor box. The UD player went down after some grabbing and clutching by both players and UD was awarded a penalty kick. UD converted for a 1-0 lead five minutes into the half. A few minutes later, Radnor was able to tie the game after some nifty footwork from Kevin Hartnett who delivered a fantastic left-footed cross to the 6 yard line which was met by a charging Dean DerSimonian, who one-timed the short hop to the lower right corner of the goal. Radnor was imposing their will on UD as they carried the play for most of the half but could not take the lead. The most promising attempt occurred just as regulation time was winding down. With just seconds remaining, Chris Martin beat a couple of UD defenders with the dribble and, once in the box, slotted a great centering pass to midfielder Grant Yu whose hard shot was thwarted by the UD goalie as time ran out. The teams played the two overtimes and ended in the 1-1 draw as neither team threatened.
Radnor is currently 1-1-2 in the Central League and 2-4-2 overall. Their next game is at Ridley 9/22/Thurs @ 7:30pm.

Radnor Varsity Heartbreaking Loss to Neshaminy
September 19, 2011 —
Playing their first home night game on Saturday, the Radnor varsity suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to the visiting Neshaminy Redskins 3-2. The two teams combined for 3 goals in the first 10 minutes but it was the last 30 seconds of regulation and the first 30 seconds of overtime that led to Radnor’s heartbreak. Chances were plentiful, early and often. In the first minute, Kevin Cox, starting as the left fullback, after some effective back and forth with left midfielder Alex Hayes, delivered a low, hard serve from 30 yards out that went dangerously through the right side of the box, untouched by either team. Radnor kept the pressure up and a few minutes later, striker Tyler Helms picked up a lob on the right side of the box, that went over the defender’s head, and placed a shot that eluded the onrushing goalie. Radnor was not able to hold the lead for very long as a few minutes later Neshaminy mounted a counterattack. A Neshaminy player provided a nice through ball towards the left side of the Radnor box. Radnor goalie, Wes Dickson, came off his end line and arrived at the ball just as the Neshaminy forward was meeting up with it. Dickson was not able to secure the ball and it rolled to the end line where the Neshaminy player was able to chase it down 20 yards wide of goal. As Radnor’s defenders and Dickson hustled back to protect the goal, the Neshaminy player brought the ball in to the field and from a difficult angle shot the ball perilously close to the goal. By the Radnor player’s reaction, it appeared they were able to get the ball out before it completely crossed the goal line but the referee called it a goal. That tie did not last long as Radnor continued to string together some nice passes that led to another ball in the back of Neshaminy’s goal. It started with the ball on the left side of midfield. With quick, crisp passes from central midfielders Chris Martin and Peter Donato the ball found its way to right midfielder Dean DerSimonian. With a Neshaminy player quickly closing in, he rolled it back to right defender Erik Hotaling, who delivered one of his many effective long balls towards Neshaminy’s goal. Kevin Hartnett gathered Hotaling’s pass and beat the goalie from essentially the same place where Helms scored. Good play from both teams ensued with each team able to muster scoring chances. On one occasion, on a free kick for Neshaminy, 15 yards in to their offensive end, their player delivered a lofty ball towards the Radnor goal. Dickson patiently waited for the ball on his goal line and knocked it over the crossbar as Neshaminy attackers were surrounding him.
The 2nd half continued with good action from both teams. Radnor’s Helms ran down a ball in the right corner and provided a ball through the crease but Radnor was not able to put it away. Neshaminy had a similar chance as they pressured the Radnor defense into a turnover. The Neshaminy player chased the ball down on the right side of the goal, passed to a teammate right in front of the goal who missed the ball completely. Radnor’s Hartnett delivered some threatening corner kicks that Radnor just could not convert. On one corner, DerSimonian, manning the back post, took a shot that hit the post and went out for a goal kick. Throughout the 2nd half, as Neshaminy attempted to get the equalizer, Radnor’s defenders (primarily Sander Yu, Peter Jacome, Shane Hickey, Matt Lundstrom, Cox, and Hotaling) were able to clear the ball out of the box before Neshaminy’s players could connect or Dickson was nimbly up to the challenge when a shot was taken. With under a minute left, Neshaminy got a long throw-in in to Radnor’s box. Radnor was not able to clear the ball from danger and a Neshaminy boot ultimately found the ball and placed it in the back of the net through numerous bodies. The teams played out the remaining 19 seconds and headed into overtime.
Radnor took possession of the kickoff and strung together numerous passes to get the ball just outside the Neshaminy box before losing it, leading to a quick counterattack with a long pass to the right side of the Radnor box. A Neshaminy player reached the ball and was guarded by a Radnor defender. Realizing he had no offensive support, the Neshaminy player launched a half-shot half-volley towards the Radnor goal from 15 yards out. Dickson had tracked the play and was in perfect position to catch the ball but it slipped through his hands and crossed over the goal line before he could reach it. With that, the Neshaminy players charged the field in celebration and the Radnor players were left stunned at the turn of events in the last 60 seconds of play after dominating a good portion of the game. Radnor players headed over to console Dickson, who had played an outstanding game once again for the Raiders.
Radnor is currently 1-1-1 in the Central League and 2-4-1 overall. Their next game is home against Upper Darby 9/20/Tues @ 3:45pm.

Varsity @ Garnet Valley
September 15, 2011 —
The varsity earned their first Central League win of the season at Garnet Valley 2-1 on a chilly night. Radnor came out with a shuffled lineup that quickly paid dividends in the first few minutes as left midfielder Alex Hayes received a pass just inside the box but his shot swerved to the right of the frame. That early chance set the tone as the Raiders continued to press and had numerous scoring opportunities. Among which was a low cross to the center of the goal from Dean DerSimonian on the right flank. Both Hayes and Peter Donato had chances at it from a few yards out but could not capitalize. Also, another good opportunity arose as a perfectly placed pass from Kevin Hartnett over the defender just inside the right box to DerSimonian’s chest which he brought down but his shot missed the mark, too. Later in the first half, Alec Fischman was inserted as striker and had a good chance on a feed by Dalton Morris, who played another solid game at left fullback. Fischman outworked the defender to win the ball and went in on the goalie with defenders in pursuit. Just as he approached the left side of the box, he got off a low, left-footed shot that the goalie was able to corral.
Garnet Valley also had some chances but could not put anything past goalie Wes Dickson and the new backline of Erik Hotaling, Sander Yu, Matt Lundstrom, Morris, and substitute Shane Hickey. The most lethal weapon Garnet Valley had was a player with a very long throw-in, which made every offensive end throw-in a simulated corner kick. Either the Radnor defenders were able to clear them out or Dickson, with his aggressive approach, was able to grab them before any damage could be done.
The 2nd half started and one could sense the energy that Radnor came out with. The play was mostly in the GV end of the field. One opportunity had striker Tyler Helms chasing down a long clearance from the Radnor defense but his slide to reach the ball was a few inches short as the GV goalie was able to reach the ball first. At the 25th minute, Radnor was finally able to break the scoreless tie. The play started with a determined Helms pressuring the left GV defender whose attempted clear was deflected by Helms back toward the GV end on the left sideline. Helms got to the ball with the defender on his heels. After settling it, Helms delivered a perfect cross to DerSimonian on the right side of the goal, roughly 15 yards out from goal. DerSimonian blistered a shot which the GV goalie saved but left the rebound in the crease for a hustling Hartnett to put away for the lead. The invigorated Raiders continued to press and had additional quality chances to add to their lead. On one occasion, Morris, as the left defender, provided an effective switch to the right side where it was met by DerSimonian who got off another strong shot that just went a foot wide of the far post. With about 15 minutes to play, Radnor was able to get an insurance goal. Sander Yu, playing central defense, picked up a ball around midfield. After slaloming around a few GV players with the ball attached to his feet, allowing his teammates to regain their shape, Yu delivered a most precise pass of 25 yards, with the outside of his right foot, that gingerly fell over the GV left defender and was met by a hard-charging Chris Martin. The speedy Martin got the ball in stride behind the defense, took a few dribbles, and calmly beat the goalie to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. Garnet Valley did mount an attack at that point and were able to cut the lead in half with just under 10 minutes to play. Radnor was able to fend them off as time ran down to earn their first league game.
Radnor is currently 1-1-1 in the Central League and 2-3-1 overall. Their next game is home versus Neshaminy 9/17/Sat @ 7:00pm.

JV Continue Winning Ways
September 15, 2011 —
The JV continued their dominance of Central League opponents with another 3 - 0 win against Garnet Valley. Radnor started strong with some fantastic passing in the middle of the field. It seemed like everyone was in the play with the ball just pinballing past the overmatched Garnet Valley players. Radnor kept up the pressure and Ryan Cutler rifled a shot past the Garnet Valley keeper to give Radnor the lead. Radnor had most all of the chances with a variety of forwards getting off good shots.
In the second half, Radnor continued to dominate and Brad Martin was fouled by the goalie in the box and was allowed to take the penalty kick. He calmly stepped up an deposited it past the goalie into the side netting. A few minutes later, Adam Erkis took a hard shot that was ticketed for the corner of the goal but the goalie made a fantastic play to knock it down. Ryan Cutler was right there following up the play and finished to make it 3 - 0 Radnor. Jud Solomon registered his second consecutive shut out in goal.
Varsity vs. Lower Merion
September 13, 2011 —
Once again, Radnor started on their heels as Lower Merion came out strong. Unlike the Marple Newtown game, Lower Merion was able to capitalize on one of their scoring chances in the 5th minute. After that, Radnor was able to settle down but the damage had been done. One of their lone chances in the first half came when Nico Pelaez, after a nifty move on the defender, took a ball down the left side and delivered a cross through the box but no Radnor player was able to meet it. The 2nd half had more play in the midfield with neither team mounting much offense. Radnor was able to move the ball from their defensive third to the middle third but could not consistently transfer possession to their offensive third to threaten the Lower Merion goal. With 19 minutes remaining, Radnor’s Peter Donato had one of the few chances when he shot a low, hard left-footed shot from 30 yards out that bounced wide of the net. As time was winding down, Radnor was able to generate their lone corner kick of the match at the 3 minute mark. Unfortunately, Sander Yu’s delivery went over the end line and fell harmlessly on top of the goal.
Radnor is currently 0-1-1 in the Central League and 1-3-1 overall. Their next game is at Garnet Valley 9/15/Thurs @ 7:30pm.

JV Beat LM
September 13, 2011 —
JV continued its winning ways in a 3 - 0 thumping of rival Lower Merion. Radnor started the game with some new faces coming down from varsity to get some additional playing time: Ryan Cutler and Kevin Riley. Sporting their new "haircuts" from the last varsity pasta party, they both made contributions almost immediately.
Pretty much the entire first half was played in the Radnor offensive end with Kevin Riley, Adam Erkis, Ryan Cutler and Alex Dimeo dominating the midfield play and creating several scoring chances. Adam took a free kick that just missed the top corner with Kevin, Ryan and Teddy Blickwedel getting shots on goal. Radnor broke through about 10 minutes in on a shot that bounced over the head of the LM goalie and Alex Dimeo was there to volley the ball towards the net. The LM defense desparately tried to keep it out but they could not stop it. Radnor 1, LM 0. It seemed like every time LM brought the ball forward, the defense consisting of Matt Pelton, Chipper O'Sullivan, Mike Kleinman and Brad Martin just shut them down.
The second half was similar to the first half with Radnor totally dominating play, possession and scoring chances. Ryan Cutler scored the second goal on a nice individual effort and then Teddy finished the scoring a bit later. Alex had another quality chance from a beautiful feed from Adam and Sean Young had a breakaway that went over the crossbar. All-in-all, a nice team victory.

Varsity vs. Marple Newtown
September 9, 2011 —
The varsity started their Central League campaign with a 0-0 tie at Marple Newtown. The game started out with Radnor having a difficult time getting the ball out of their own end for the first few minutes but Marple was never able to get a quality chance. The tilt of play switched later in the half when midfielder Chris Martin’s close range shot from the left side was deflected by the Marple goalie’s flailing arm as he came out to challenge. Soon after, defensemen Alex Hayes, who was adroitly lurking around the offensive end when the opportunity presented itself, picked up a loose ball at around the 25-yard line and whistled a laser over the crossbar. Also, in the first half, midfielder Dean DerSimonian chased down a ball in the right corner and delivered a hard, low service through the box but to no avail. One of Marple’s good chances came off a set piece from 35 yards out where the player delivered a lofty shot towards goal but was thwarted by Radnor goalie Wes Dickson’s timely nudge over the crossbar. The rest of the half closed out with much play in the midfield and not too many legitimate chances for either side. Radnor’s primary central midfielders, Kevin Hartnett, Tyler Helms, and Sander Yu did a good job of controlling the middle of the field and distributing nicely. Hartnett had some very effective slide tackles to win 50-50 balls. Helms let his physical presence be known with every challenge and Yu displaying some nifty touches on the ball.
The 2nd half ensued with Radnor carrying the play in the Marple end with Alec Fischman having a couple of good chances. The first on a dangerous cross from Martin in the box and Fischman’s shot just went wide. The other on a nice entry pass from DerSimonian, leading Fischman in all alone on the left side of the goal but his shot was not chipped high enough and the keeper made the save. Later in the half, Hartnett led DerSimonian in with a fantastic through ball on the left side but he was not able to get a threatening shot on the goal. Radnor continued to have the advantage but the Radnor defense, buoyed by Peter Donato, Alex Hayes, Dalton Morris, and Shane Hickey, played very strongly together and never allowed Marple to sustain a consistent attack. The 2nd half ended tied and the two hard working teams went into overtime.
Early in the first overtime provided the scene for one of Marple’s best chances when a quick deflection in the box tested Dickson’s reflexes, which he passed with flying colors as he snatched the ball from just a few yards out. Later in the first OT, Martin delivered a threatening set piece ball from the right side 30 yards out but it passed through the left side of the 6 yard line with Radnor players just missing redirecting it into the net. Radnor continued to control play as they entered the 2nd OT. Whenever Marple tried to mount a counter attack, the defensemen, with Donato solidly patrolling the middle, thwarted any crosses before they were able to find a Marple attacker. Towards the end of game, Martin made a strong run, after close to 100 minutes of play, for a deftly placed ball against a Marple defenseman, who seemed to pull up lame as they both approached the ball outside the box. The defender fell right near the ball and seemingly appeared to handle the ball, which was not called. Martin was still able to win the ball and was able to get a shot off as forward Erik Hotaling was streaking down the middle of the field. Martin’s shot was denied by the acrobatic Marple goalie and the rebound ended up going wide.
The game ended with no score, mostly to the outstanding play of Radnor goalie Dickson and his Marple counterpart.
The team has their first home game on 9/13/Tues at 3:45pm.
