2011 ROADDAWGS/DEMARINI/HEROES WEST
February 5, 2011
2011 Roaddawgs/Demarini/Heroes West Roaddawgs over the years have won many League, Tournament, City, and State Championships. During this time we have watched many players come and go. This year is no exception; Roaddawgs have added 7 new faces for the 2011 season and 1 new sponsor, at this time the Dawgs welcome Demarini, Our newest sponsor. New Players added for the 2011 season are- Jason Wilkins, Ryan Czyz, formally of No Ego team, Jeff Cordova, Rick Balcaitis and Dan Silzer formerly of the Boru Ballers team, Tristan Borzick and Jeff Phelps formerly of Fusion Softball team… Returning Sponsors Heroes West out of Joliet, Hooters, (this year of Joliet) Returning players from last year- Dave Johnson, Dave Weber, Ron Bills, Scott Miller, Jason Scarpelli, John Hopkins, Brent Dite,Vic Pellot, Jason Verde. And hopefully semi retired Bob Guajardo… After winning the 2010 Competitive Joliet City tournament We knew an upgrade was needed to compete in the open division in 2011 With the many pickups that were made the name Roaddawgs/Demarini will be playing in many other places then Joliet, starting with the 1st tournament of the year WSL BASH FOR CASH in Cincinnati Ohio the weekend of March 18th-20th We also expect to play in Indiana, Wisconsin, St. Louis area, Southern Illinois Michigan,Vegas, Florida,
Now for a short summary of the 2011 Roaddawg team
Ron Bills- is the longest running Roaddawg, Ron joined my team before the Roaddawg name was created, Ron is easily one of the best defensive 3rd baseman in the state of Illinois, Ron also is able to slide to shortstop or middle in a 5 man infield. He has become a better hitter with age; Ron is now one of our top hitters, a real clutch hitter for us. Plays hard 100% of the time. Dave Johnson- has also been with me for a very long time, for many years Dave has lead our team in Offensive output, he has regularly registered 100 runs, 100 plus rbi’s and 50 plus doubles in a season. Dave brings a big target for our infielders and is great at scooping those not so great throws.
Dave Weber- Has been our top outfielder for many years, Dave gets one of the best jumps on a ball while playing the outfield and to this day still shows off his strong arm, Dave is a solid hitter with surprising power, He will also run through a fence if that is what it takes to win.
Scott Miller- Wow, ever since Scott joined our team 3 years ago He made us a much better team, his leadership and motivational speeches are what leaders are made of, Scott brings a solid glove and big time power along with a high batting average.
Jason Scarpelli- I think you can probably count on one hand how many times Jason has hit a soft out, Jason normally pounds the ball and is our top power hitter on the team, what makes Jason so valuable is his great attitude and his talent to play any position he is asked to play, and play at a high level, doesn’t matter if it’s 1st, 3b, outfield, he gets the job done.
John Hopkins- last year John had to go to Florida for work, and I can honestly say we could not replace him; John brings so much to the table, great attitude, great hitter, strong outfielder who can run them down, and a strong arm. Welcome back John..
Brent Dite- since taking on a park time role Brent hasn’t been able to help us out as much as I would like, Brent is a true team player, a clutch hitter and a solid defensive player, great at turning the double play, Brent is also 1 of our 3 pitchers.
Vic Pellot- Our own version of Mini Pujols, Vic is a line drive hitting machine, When Vic gets in that zone its line drive after line drive, Vic loves to win and will play anywhere that is asked to make that happen, Outfield, catch, DH, whatever it takes.
Jason Verde- Has mainly played leagues nights with us, Jason brings energy and hustle and youth, it will be great to see Jason expand his game with us, he should be very successful.
Now for the newly added Roaddawgs Jason Wilkins- has come in and has helped us secure Demarini as a sponsor and has offered his help in anyway, Jason will also add to our sponsorship fortune later in the season, Jason brings speed to burn and a high average , it will be good to add his speed and leadership to the team, he will also be one of our 3 pitcher.Jason is so confident about his ability to hit for a high average that he put a $50 wager to any player on the team for high average at the end of the season.
Ryan Czyz- I am excited to have Ryan playing for the Dawgs, I watched him some last year during a few tournaments and this guy is one of the top outfielders in the State of Illinois, Ryan brings a strong arm, speed and good hitting to the Dawgs, Hopefully Ryan can make the Bash for Cash tourney and defend his 2010 MVP crown.
Jeff Cordova- over the years this guy has given us fits when we played against his teams, Jeff is one of our pitchers and is very good at keeping opposing hitters off balance, Jeff also adds speed and a very good bat to our lineup.
Rick Balcaitis- solid shortstop, middle infielder, Rick plays a real good infield no matter where you play him, He also brings a strong bat, Rick has good power along with high average.
Dan Silzer- Well Dan might very well be the fastest weight lifter We know, Dan brings a lot of power and speed to the Dawgs, a very reliable player, gives 100 % all the time..
Tristan Borzick- this could very well be our biggest pickup, Tristan has Scarpelli power, and is very smooth in the outfield; Tristan also has a strong arm. He will hit for power and a high average.
Jeff Phelps- Jeff is a veteran player that is willing to accept whatever role we ask of him, He is a very good opposite field hitter; Jeff will do whatever it takes to win, we are very glad to have him.
Bob Guajardo- Ok, I know Bob is considered retired from tournament ball, but I am going to call him semi retired, for many years Bob has been Mr. clutch, either at the plate or in the field, Bob’s attitude is also a managers dream, he is a true team player And though His play usually makes him one of the tops players on the team you would never know it by the way he acts… Hopefully if Bob gets the call this season He can make it out. Maybe even as nothing more then a hired hitter….
Cj Hundt- Cj has rejoined the Roaddawgs after a few years away, in 2008 season Cj shared team MVP honors with Ron Bills. Cj brings speed, power and great softball insticts to the team, another big weapon to add to an already loaded team. welcome back Cj...
Jim Novak- over the past few years Our team has noticed the strong play of Jim in our battles against his team, We are glad to add him to the Roaddawg family, Jim brings power and strong hitting along with solid outfield play. he should be another weapon to an already strong team..
Brian Mayfield- the Manager of this great team, over the years I have watched many great guys come and go, and We still battle it out and find a way to win, this years team has me very excited, the guys have been pumped for months, all I ask is for the guys to play hard all the time, leave their ego at the door, We are a team not an I, and whatever you do try not to embarrass yourself or the team.. In it to win it, the Roaddawg way…

During the tournament the Dawgs finished with a 4-1 record outscoring their opponents 78-42..
