2011-2012 End of Season Banquet
May 3, 2012 The Black Diamonds celebrated the end of another successful season in style at the River Oaks Golf Course banquet room, hosted by Lori Havel and her staff. Players, coaches, and their family and friends enjoyed a sumptuous meal, and were entertained by several humorous slide shows produced by Dina DeMarco, her husband Matt Nollau, and Shelby and Jim Low.

At the end of the evening, the player awards were presented. The season's three top scorers were Kate Hendrickson(44 pts), Shelby Low (27 pts), and Meghan Mathews (22 pts). Angela Kauppila had the dubious distinction of receiving the Most PIM award ( :> ). Two players received awards selected by the coaches. The Most Improved Player award went to Carli Rackham; Shelby Low received the Team Spirit Award for the player who best exemplifies the character and spirit of the team. Last but not least, based on the votes of their team mates, the Offensive Player of the Year award went to Ina Amber; the Defensive Player of the Year award was presented to Janell Kurchinski.

Two Diamonds Teams, Two Top Results at 2012 Ice Breaker
April 15, 2012 The Black Diamonds sent two teams to the 2012 Ogden Ice Breaker, and came home with First and Second Place trophies.

The Diamonds B team swept the competition in every game (5-1 vs. Ketchum 5-Stars; 6-0 vs. Park City Predators, 5-1 vs. Wasatch Wings B), finishing the tournament with a decisive win in the championship game versus the Lady Grizzlies 5-1.

The Diamonds C team tied their first two games in round-robin competition (2-2 vs. Wasatch Wings C; 0-0 vs. the Ice Vixen), but with a win in their third game versus the McCall Misconducts (2-0) qualified for the championship game vs. the Provo Blades. Although it was a tight battle, the Diamonds lost 3-0.

Diamonds Dominate at Mardi Gras Tournament
March 11, 2012 The Black Diamonds took their first trip to Craig, Colorado March 9-11, 2012 to attend the Mardi Gras tournament hosted by the Craig Puck Ewes. With great weather and gracious hosts, it was a fun weekend for all.

The team came out rocking from the first whistle. We won our first game on Friday night vs. the Pueblo team by a score of 8-0. We outshot them by a margin of 37-4. The second game on Saturday morning was against the home team, which we won 9-1. Things were really clicking, and everyone was having a great time, but we knew our next challenge would be our toughest. The Steamboat Springs team had also dominated their opponents in their first two games by similar scores, so we knew this would be the team to beat.

The Steamboat Springs came out fast and hard, and crashed our net early and often. They set up effective screens and took hard shots from the points. Before we knew it, they had taken a lead of 6-3 into the third period. Then, they got two more quick goals to start off the third period, and were leading 8-3 with just a little over 6 minutes left in the game. They thought they had it in the bag. But they underestimated our resolve as a team. We doubled-down at that point, and never looked back. In six minutes, we scored SIX goals, and left Steamboat stunned. It was a beautiful thing, and it's certain that no one who was there will ever forget it.

We had two more games on Sunday. In the morning, we had a good warmup vs. the Denver team, which we won 7-1.

In the Championship game against Steamboat, both teams were primed for a tough battle. Steamboat scored early, but that was the last goal they got against us. The Diamonds stepped up on defense all the way around, and took control of the puck and the game. Steamboat never got another quality shooting opportunity the rest of the game. The Diamonds took the lead in the game during the second period and never looked back. So, with five straight wins, the team took home the gold.

Goal Digger 2011 Results
December 15, 2011 The Black Diamonds had a tough weekend of fierce competition in the Advanced B Division of the 2011 Goal Digger Tournament in Park City, UT. This was probably one of the most competitive tournament divisions the team has competed in some time, and although most of the games were close and could easily have turned on a different bounce of the puck, the Diamonds had to settle for playing in the consolation game on Sunday.

Diamonds Take 3rd in 2011 WTF Tournament
November 11, 2011 The Black Diamonds traveled to Durango, CO for the Second Annual Wild Turkey Fest (WTF) Tournament, hosted by the Durango Betties. In spite of the small number of teams, it was a tough but fun tournament, and a great change of venue for the Diamonds that gave the team a chance to see how we matched up against other teams in the intermountain west.

The Diamonds easily won their first game by a score of 4-0 over the Pueblo Little Caesars, but with only an hour's rest between games, lost a scrappy battle to the High Country Hellcats (4-1). Later than evening, the Diamonds played their third game of the day to the tournament hosts, the Betties, losing in another hard-fought ice battle by a score of 3-1.

The Diamonds played against the Hellcats again on Sunday morning, but with tenacity and a great adjustment by our coach, Mike Hintze, the score was much closer, only losing by a score of 2-1. The Diamonds finished 3rd in the overall standings.

Diamonds Compete in 2011 Harvest Classic
October 28, 2011
The Black Diamonds participated in the 2011 Boise Harvest Classic October 28-30, 2011, and though the team competed well and dominated those games they won, they fell victim to a strange tournament schedule that kept them from moving on to the medal-round games on the last day of the tournament.

The first game of the tournament was against the eventual tournament champion Provo Blades, which the Diamonds lost in a heart-breaker on a questionable shoot-out goal by a final score of 4-3. Because of this single loss, the Diamonds had to move through the loser's bracket and play a total of FOUR games on Saturday. The Diamonds easily won their next two games (7-2 vs. Herricanes, 7-1 vs. Wasatch Wings), but lost the final game on Saturday night in another close battle versus the Boise Wildfire (4-3).
