Both performances were good enough to advance her to the Masters meet on Friday.

The girls 4x100m relay team of Taylor Jackson, Yamani Wallace, Salcido, and Shannon McKee finished second in division 3, setting a new school record (48.03) and narrowly missing qualifying to Masters.

Sophomore Yamani Wallace ran a PR in the division 3 200m (25.17) finishing fifth in a very competitive race.

Several members of the Lady Saints track team did well enough to make it to CIF Finals, which will be held Saturday, May 22 at Cerritos College. Leading the charge is senior Katherine Salcido who advanced in the long jump, high jump, and 100m hurdles. She should be the top Division 3 seed in the hurdles. She also runs on the Saints 4x100m relay team which also advanced, winning its heat. The relay team members are junior Taylor Jackson, sophomore Yamani Wallace, Salcido, and senior Shannon McKee. Above, Katherine hands off to Shannon for the anchor leg.
Throwers Enjoy Deserved Moment in the Spotlight
The San Dimas High School newspaper, the Halo gave some well-deserved attention to the SDHS throwers by featuring them in the May 12 edition of the Halo. Among other thrower highlights, senior Angel Gonzalez broke the school record this year in the discus. Here is a link to that article:

Two members of the San Dimas High School track & field team will be competing at next Friday's Southern Section Masters Meet: Katherine Salcido and Erika Kalmar.

The rest of the Saints track & field finalists finished their seasons at CIFSS Finals on Saturday at Cerritos College. Senior Michael Thompson finished his high school track career with a third place finish in Division III, jumping 21-09.5.

The girls 4x100m relay team was unfortunately disqualified after running an unofficial 47.85. The team members are Shannon McKee, Taylor Jackson, Yamani Wallace, and Erika Kalmar.

Junior Katherine Salcido (above) finished 6th in Division III in the long jump, but her jump of 17-10.25 was long enough to qualify her to Masters next week. She also finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.33.

Senior Erika Kalmar will run at Masters after finishing second in the 400m in Division III, with a PR of 55.84. Erika also finished fourth in the 200m, with a time of 25.03.

Freshman Yamani Wallace had been an alternate in the 100m, but proved she belonged there all along when she took the place of a scratched runner and finished 7th in 12.63.

The Saints girls team finished fifth overall. Great job, ladies!

Saints Enjoy Record-Breaking Day at Valle Vista League Finals
May 6, 2010 Although Valle Vista League team champions had already been determined during dual meet season with the Saints girls emerging as undefeated league champions for the second year in a row, there was a lot at stake at League Finals on May 6 at Baldwin Park High School: individual championships and CIF berths.

In the boys varsity division, the 4x100m relay team of Jordan Taylor, Brian Hilpert, De Marquis Lawson, and Devante Brown finished third in a time fast enough to qualify them for CIF. Senior Michael Thompson (above) won both the 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles, and will advance to CIF as league champion in both events. Senior Brian Hilpert finished second in the 400m and also qualified for CIF. In the long jump, Michael Thompson won another league title, and will advance to CIF along with Devante Brown. Allen Brown finished third in the discus with a throw long enough to qualify him for CIF.

The Saints girls had a truly spectacular day which began with the 4x100m relay team winning and setting a new league record of 48.39. The relay team members are Taylor Jackson, Erika Kalmar, Yamani Wallace, and Shannon McKee. The team will advance to CIF. Freshman Alyssa Martinez had two amazing come-from-behind victories to become league champion and advance to CIF in the 1600m and 800m. In the 100m hurdles junior Katherine Salcido broke the league record she set earlier in the week at prelims to win and advance to CIF.

Senior Erika Kalmar also had an amazing day, winning the 400m and breaking the league record she set two years ago. Taylor Jackson ran a strong third place and will qualify to CIF with Erika. In the 100m, junior Shannon McKee led a San Dimas sweep, winning the 100m, with Yamani Wallace in second and Maribel Duran in third. All three advance to CIF. In the 200m, Erika Kalmar was victorious again, breaking the league record to lead another San Dimas sprint sweep. Shannon McKee was second, and Maribel Duran was third. All three will advance to CIF.

In the field events, Katherine Salcido qualified for CIF by finishing third in the high jump. Katherine also will go to CIF in the long jump after winning that event. Senior Ashley Burchfield continued her great season in the throwing events, winning both of them to become league champion and advance to CIF. Burgundy Withem will also advance to CIF in the shot put.

The girls finished the meet by winning the 4x400m and "shattering" the league record they set in 2008. The team of Taylor Jackson, Shannon McKee, Yamani Wallace, and Erika Kalmar ran 3:58.94 and will advance to CIF.
April 29, 2010 The Saints boys and girls track and field teams were both victorious in the season's last dual meet, at Ganesha High School. McKee went on to win the 100m, and Wallace won the 200m with Katherine Salcido in second place. Alyssa Martinez won the 800m and the 1600m, while Diana Ulibarri won the 3200m. In the hurdles, Alix Girard won the 100m hurdles, and Dominique Jette won the 300m hurdles. Senior Ashley Burchfield continued her great senior season by winning the shot put and the discus. Katherine Salcido won the long jump, and Dominique Jette won the triple jump.
Saints Girls Victorious over Covina
April 21, 2010 Although it didn't snow on April 21, it sure felt as if it would, as the Covina Colts visited the Saints for the penultimate Valle Vista League meet of the season. The weather was cold and windy, and the track was wet, with athletes, coaches, officials, parents, and fans shivering during the meet. Unfortunately for the Saints, the Colt boys team won, 89-49. Happily for the girls, however, San Dimas beat Covina 74-57.

Predictably, Covina's Remontay McClain, one of the top sprinters in the country, won both the 100m (10.84) and the 200m (22.41). Saints senior Micheal Thompson continued his terrific season, winning three events: 110m hurdles (16.21), 300m hurdles (44.66), and the long jump (19-8). The Saints 4x100m relay team of Jordan Taylor, Brian Hilpert, Damarcus Lawson, and Devante Brown won in a time of 46.65. Angel Gonzalez tied for first in the shot put (39-5).

The Saints relay teams excelled, too. April 10, 2010 Several members of the Saints girls track team competed at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High School on Saturday, April 10. Junior Katherine Salcido also competed on Thursday and Friday, since she was competing in the heptathlon. She did well enough to earn a spot in the Junior Olympics in June!

On Saturday, the lady Saints' 4x100m relay team (Taylor Jackson, Erika Kalmar, Yamani Wallace, Shannon McKee) finished third in their heat, earning a medal for their efforts and running 49.68. Shannon McKee ran a great anchor leg, catching several girls to earn third place for her team.

Pomona won the boys 4x100m relay, but the Saints returned the favor by winning the 4x400m relay thanks to a dramatic come-from-behind anchor leg run by senior Brian Hilpert.
