Storm Finish up Spring Classic 2-2
May 18, 2009
The Sioux Falls Storm Softball team competed in the Spring Classic Tourney in Sioux Falls this last weekend. The Storm got off to a HOT start by 15 running Coyotes out of Bismarck, ND 18 to 3. In the second game of the day the Storm had a barn burner with Rookies Team Razzo, going 10 innings and pulling out the win 20-18. So it was a nice start of the weekend going 2-0 on Saturday.
Sunday the Storm came up against Tourney Champ TFC/Easton, and they had the hot bat in taking the win over the Storm, and moving us to the losers bracket. The next game we came up against another Sioux City team called Garfield's. We battled back and forth, in some VERY strong winds, but they came out on top, to finish off the Storm for the day.

Storm take 3rd place in Montrose, SD Tourney
June 14, 2008
The Storm softball team played in a round robin in Montrose this last weekend. It was a great day for some softball! We were not able to field a full team, as alot of the guys had prior engagements, so we would like to thank all the guys that played with us this weekend. Craig Spence, Chris Miller, Mark Mikkelson and Phil Meehan played with us so we could get 10 players on the field. We started out with a win over "Out in Left Field" which was a bunch of guys from different teams put together. This team had TONS of speed, well ok maybe not, but did have a lot of great hitters. For the second game we played BOHICA, and they have our number this year by taking the win for the second time in a week. Our third game we played Triple Play Softball and it was a close game, but one huge inning by TPS did us in and we lost by a few runs. We ended out the day by taking on TNT2 and ended up with the win to finish the tourney 2-2 and in 3rd place. The Storm will be traveling to Milbank, SD in 2 weeks for another Tourney so stay tuned on how we do up there.
THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME OUT TO OUR LAST FUNDRAISER!

STORM/SCHOENEMAN'S CONTINUE TO BUILD; ADD 10 PLAYERS FOR 2008!
March 11, 2008
Just three current Storm players can boast being on the roster for more than two years. Shane Gardner, Corey Geier and Nick Nuttbrock return to lend a hand to the myriad of new players the team has added the past two years.
Last year the Storm brought in a nice handful of players as the rebuilding, or we could say building, process began. Three of those players enjoyed fine years for the team and will return for another year. Matt Mikkleson and former USF football player Jason Mellegard were among the HR leaders for the team. Nikk Anspuch joined the team late in the season and quickly proved he could also hit the long ball with the best of them. Steve Smith moved here from cali and helped out in many diffrent ways, hitting in cluch situations, running the stats and book, and helping out withe lineup.
Coming aboard this year are three former Schoeneman's players. Brady Hastings led Schoeneman's in HR's and played solid infield defense at all four spots. The Keg were among the teams who offered Brady a spot after his first year of softball in Sioux Falls. Shad Hawkey and Brad Steever finished with the second and third highest averages for the old Schoeneman's squad and will provide veteran leadership.
After adding a few proven slowpitch players the team turned their attention to some young players with collegiate athletic experience. Two of those guys were baseball teammates at USF. Ryan Millsap excelled at baseball and basketball. In basketball the 6'6 Millsap was the second leading scorer on a team that spent most of the year #1 nationally and in baseball he tracked everything down in CF. KELO rated him the states best dunker! Matt Stange was also a dual sport athlete at USF in baseball and football. Stange recently moved back to the area from California and, like Millsap, is an athletic youngster who looks forward to learning the slowpitch game.
Three more players move up to take a shot at Thursday thunder. Nate Olson played the past couple of years for the Wednesday Shenanigan's team. Storm/Schoeneman's played with in a couple tournamaents with him and offered him a spot after they realized he could help the team in many ways. "Nate-O" played football at Black Hills State. Rob Fagnan and Barry Van Voorst played Tuesdays last year. This isn't Fagnans first Storm team as he spent two years with the football Storm as quarterback. Barry competed against Stange is high school before becoming a multi-sport athlete at Buena Vista University where he competed in baseball, football and wrestling.
Chas Olson recently moved to Sioux Falls from Pierre and will come aboard for the 2008 season. Chas recently graduated from SDSU where he was a centerfielder for the Jacks baseball team.
Another former Storm football player coming to the softball side is recently retired former MVP Nate Fluitt. Fluitt was one of the best players to ever wear the Storm football uniform and he'll start off as a reserve on the softball team.
We're excited for the 2008 season and think these additions will make us one of the funnest teams in the state of South Dakota. We hope they will also make us a little more competetive. If you see us out at the park stop over for a Coors Light.
