Bat Show

December 17, 2017

Following the success of our October event, and due to overwhelming demand, the SNJBL will host a second Bat Show.

As you may have heard, as of January 1, 2018, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken, Little League, and most national baseball organizations, will enforce a new policy which bans all bats used in the 2017, and prior, seasons.   Per the new rules, by the start of the upcoming 2018 season, all bats must certified and affixed with an official "USABat" sticker.  This requirement disqualifies all existing bats from practice/game use (excluding T-Ball bats).  You can find more information about the rule changes here:  https://baberuthleague.org/bat-rules.aspx

To prepare for this sweeping change, the SNJBL has partnered with Alfred's Sports Shop to host a Bat Show where you can ask questions and order an approved bat for your child.  As this change also allows for big barrel (2-5/8") bats, Alfred's professionals will be on site to fit your child with a properly sized bat for his/her ability.

Date:  Sunday, December 17th

Time:  10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Place:  Chisholm Community Center Gym

All bats offered at the show will be marked down to the lowest possible price and taxes will be excluded.

To plan for proper staffing, please email  springfieldjrbaseballleague@gmail.com by Thursday, December 14, if you expect to attend.  Please include the number of players, and their ages, that will required fitting.

2018 Bat Rule Changes

On January 1, 2018 USA Baseball will be implementing a rule change to the bats. If you are 14 years old or younger and play Little League®, Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie or AABC, you will need to use a new bat marked with a new USA Baseball stamp.

The bats currently on the market, which are marked with a 1.15BPF stamp, will no longer be legal for play in these leagues.  Additionally, beginning on January 1, 2018, under the new USA Baseball rule, all players 14 and under (not including Tee-Ball) will be able to use approved USA Baseball 2-5/8" barrels in Little League®, Babe Ruth & Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie and AABC.

How will I know which bat to buy?

All new bats that bear the USABat licensing mark will be permissible for play in the leagues and tournaments of the participating youth baseball organizations.

When can I buy the new bat?

It is the intention of the bat manufacturers to make the new bats available in the fall of 2017, in sufficient time for the 2018 season.

Later this year, the SNJBL is planning to host a bat show where you'll be able to purchase a new certified bat at a discounted price.  Check our website regularly for details.
