WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE
SLAMMIN EAGLES

November 3, 2009
We played two very good games against a tough opponent in the Northstars. In our first game we won 8-3 with strong pitching from Alex Scuoppo who went the distance. We played error free baseball and had some timely hits. In the second game we lost the lead in the 6th inning and fell short 5-4. Morgan also went the distance in the lost but pitched very well, a few bloop hits is what done us in. We finished playing in our division and we ended up 7-1 and 11-4 overall. With five games to go, let’s keep playing good baseball and finish up strong heading into the playoffs. I also need to mention the great job Willi Castro did behind the plate it’s not easy to catch a doubleheader. Great job kid….

SWEEP
October 4, 2009 We had two well played games Sunday winning the first game 1-0 and the second game 9-0. In the first game it was a pitching duel with no runs scored from both teams until we broke through in the bottom of the 7Th inning. John with 2 outs got a single and Willi drove him home with a line drive shot to right center scoring John to win the game. Alex Scuoppo matched zeros with the opposing pitcher going the distance and striking out 8 batters and allowing only 2 hits. A game with two pitchers matching each other and going toe to toe and to pull out the victory says a lot about your character as a team. In the second game Andy Davies would not be out done by his team mate and pitched 6 shutout innings on only 3 his allowed. Austin came in the 7Th inning to preserve the victory. The bats were on fire in the second game we had 11 hits with Matt, Sammy, and John leading the way with 2 hits apiece and Alex, Willi, Brandon, Andy, and Ryan with 1 hit each. You kids should be proud to play a doubleheader and not give up a single run in either game. That will not happen often to hold the opponent down for 14 innings and not give up a run is hard to do. So you know where we stand, we are 8-3 overall and 6-0 in are division. See you all at practice ready to go and prepare to work hard……

Schedule Change
October 5, 2009
The game against the Jupiter Hammerheads on the 16TH of October was cancelled and was moved up to October 9TH but I got a call from the coach of the Hammerheads and he wasn't going to have enough players so the game is now moved to October 23RD at JCP.

Thanks Coach Mario,

Two more wins
I can’t say enough about how we played on Sunday. We again swept a doubleheader. We had our hitting shoes on for sure; we had 23 hits in the two games and only gave up 4 hits. In the first game Alex Scuoppo pitched a 1 hitter going the distance in a 10-1 victory. Scoring 5 runs in the first inning with 3 hits by Alex, John, and Austin and then 5 more in the 4Th batting around in the order with hits by Matt, Andy, and Austin. We played some great defense and turned a 6-4-3 double play in the second inning. In the second game Matt Swiderski went the distance pitching a 3 hitter in an 11-0 victory. We had 15 hits in all with John Cunningham leading the way with 3 hits followed by Alex, Willi, Brandon, Sammy, and Daniel with 2 hits each. I like to say what a great job by Brandon even with a hurt heel and playing in pain he gutted it out. Eagle players keep up the hard work and stay focused.

Doubleheader Sweep
September 21, 2009
It was nice to get our first sweep of the season with a 6-4 victory in the first game and a come from behind 8-7 win in the second game. Matt, Brandon, Sammy and Squirrel (Andy) led the way with their outstanding pitching in the first game. We stringed together hits and was more patient in our AB. Willie and John finally broke out and had a great day at the plate. I like to make note that Sammy has been hitting from the beginning of the season and is leading the team in that category, way to go. The second game was the test; down 7-4 going into the last inning with 2 outs we scored 4 runs to win the game. That should prove to each and every one of you to never give up and play to the last out is made. Ryno pitched 4 solid inning holding the blaze at bay and Andy came in to hold the blaze down for the win. Remember what I told you kids if you play to have fun you will get your share of wins. GO Eagles…..

Slammin Eagles Golf Tournament

The Golf Tournament was a big success. I would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your hard work and dedication. I had people approach me and say how much they enjoyed themselves, and we are hoping to make this an annual event. I want to say a special thank you to Kim Cunningham for organizing this event.

EVERY MORNING IN AFRICA, A GAZELLE WAKES UP. IT KNOWS IT MUST RUN FASTER THAT THE FASTEST LION OR IT WILL BE KILLED. EVERY MORNING A LION WAKES UP. IT KNOWS IT MUST OUTRUN THE SLOWEST GAZELLE OR IT WILL STARVE TO DEATH. SO, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER YOU ARE A LION OR A GAZELLE.

WHEN THE SUN COMES UP, YOU BETTER BE READY.

Team Unity
Players learn to encourage each other regularly, doing everything from giving a pat on the back after a fine defensive play to leaving the dugout to greet a player who has simply advanced a base runner. Players who are coming out of the game for a substitute are ready to help the incoming player warm up. The players not on the field are still able to take an active roll by helping with the score book, keeping equipment in order, and offering vocal encouragement to their teammates.By realizing (knowing) that 12 individuals can not possibly win a championship, the group comes together and WORKS AS A TEAM in order TO SUCCEED.

Attention Eagle Players, read the factors about being a champion caliper team. Especially the first two factors. Read them and memorize them.
PS: Team Play Is Everything

The Slammin Eagles are a youth travel baseball program that plays competitive baseball with the USSSA. The team was formed in 2007 to provide a place for the players of Port Saint Lucie and surrounding towns to play organized competitive baseball. We the coaches are dedicated to teaching baseball fundamentals as well as sportsmanship. We strive to win, but at the same time the goal is to provide a fun place for the members of our team to learn the game of baseball and grow as athletes.

Pitching Tips
Our "Pitching Goals":

1. Sound delivery/mechanics - you cannot throw strikes consistently if you do not have sound mechanics. You also risk arm injury if you throw with bad mechanics
2. Location - To be a successful pitcher you have to be able to locate the ball. Inside/outside, up and down
3. Change speeds - You don't throw every pitch the same speed. You put a little more on, you take a little off. It keeps the batter off stride. There is an old adage about hitting that says: Hitting is all about timing. Pitching is all about disrupting the hitters timing. You disrupt a hitters timing by changing speeds
4. Field your position - You can win yourself a lot of ball games if you can field your position.
