Smithfield Recreation Association

WORK DAY A HUGE SUCCESS!
The weather cooperated and we had dozens of parents and kids on hand throughout the day to get Beale Park ready for the 2012 season. Thank you to ALL of the volunteers who showed up. Our facility continues to be one we can all be proud of. We look forward to seeing you at the ball field!

NEW BAT RULE
In a nut shell:

2 5/8” barrel bats are legal in all divisions of PONY Baseball. If a 2 5/8” bat is a -3, it must be BBCOR certified (stamped on the bat). Currently there is no testing protocol for -5, -7, -9, etc. They are legal.

2 ¼” barrel bats are legal in all divisions of PONY Baseball. They must have a Bat Performance Factor (BPF) of 1.15 or less stamped on the bat. In addition the bat must be stamped “approved for play in PONY Baseball.”

2 ¾” barrel bats are illegal

ATTENTION FACEBOOK USERS!!
Did you know SRA now has a Facebook page? Find the Facebook link on the left side of this page below the menu. Make SRA your "Friend" and keep up with us through Facebook Now...KIDS AND PARENTS PLEASE TAKE NOTE!! The Norfolk Tides recently published an article on their website announcing a contest to renovate 3 local little leagues in Hampton Roads. (See the article by clicking here Norfolk Tides Contest) SRA President, Danny Hughes, submitted a proposal on behalf of Smithfield Recreation in hopes we would be considered as one of the lucky 3 chosen. But we need your help! Here's how it's going to work...the winners will be determined by fan vote through the Norfolk Tides Facebook page! Please keep checking the Norfolk Tides Facebook page and website for updates and information regarding the contest and voting as it is made available. We need EVERY Facebook user to use the power of social media and let this news spread like wildfire. Kids, first YOU need to vote and then ask all of your Facebook "friends" to do the same. Parents...if you use Facebook, VOTE. But you can help by also emailing your friends, family and co-workers and asking them to help us out by taking just a couple of minutes to cast a vote for SRA. This is a unique opportunity and one we can't afford to miss out on. Let's all do our part and then some. Help get the word out! Voting will begin on Feb. 27th so mark your calendars and go to the Norfolk Tides Facebook page to vote! Thanks in advance for your support!

Who is SRA?
Smithfield Recreation Association (SRA) is a local non-profit organization that runs baseball and softball for children (ages 5-16) in and around the Smithfield area. We are not a part of IWC Parks and Recreation. We do not receive any funding from either the Town of Smithfield or Isle of Wight County. We do "borrow" some County/School fields, when available.

Beale Park resulted from a Land donation made by the late Carl M. Beale over 40 years ago. Through his generous donation and many volunteers and supporters over the years Beale Park has developed into the facility it is today.

SRAs' MISSION STATEMENT - To encourage, in all of the children who participate in our program, the development of sportsmanship, athletic skill, teamwork, self-reliance, self-discipline, and the ability to win graciously and to lose with dignity.
