10/30/11 - Due to poor field conditions, all home games are cancelled today.
Inclement Weather Policy:
Cancellations are to be avoided if at all possible.
If a decision for cancellation is made due to inclement weather, the home team is responsible for notifying the opposing team and the league commissioner, who will notify the referee assignor. This decision is to be made at least two hours prior to game time or the home team will be responsible to pay the referee as if the game was played.
If the field is unplayable but weather conditions are acceptable, an alternate field should be used, if possible.
The home team is to inspect the field at least two hours before game time for playing conditions.
If a decision has been made to play a game, and a dispute arises regarding playing conditions, the referee's decision is final. If the game is not continued, the home team will pay the official half of the game fee.
Coaches, here is our policy regarding play during thunderstorms whether lightning is witnessed or not:
When thunder is heard, or a cloud to-ground lightning bolt is seen, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning. Suspend play and take shelter immediately.
The referee is to stop the game when s/he confirms either thunder or lightning.
Thirty-minute rule. Once play has been suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or flash of lightning is witnessed prior to resuming play.
Any subsequent thunder or lightning after the beginning of the 30-minute count, reset the clock and another 30-minute count should begin.
We can always reschedule games, but we can’t do anything to help a child or a bystander AFTER they have been struck by lightning. A storm can be up to 10 miles away and lightning can still strike without warning. Oh, and BTW, Pennsylvania ranks 13th of all the states in lightning deaths.
Please be careful and use good judgement.
