ASA National Champs - Class C Fastpitch
The Sedutto’s Swashbucklers won the 31-team ASA Men’s Major C Fastpitch National over the weekend in Bowling Green, Ky.
“Pitching and defense were the key,” said player-coach Anthony Shaut. “We didn’t hit as well as last year, but we were better defensively and didn’t make many mistakes.”
“Our pitching was outstanding, especially Justin Zimmerman (tourney MVP who won five games),” said Shaut. “Zimmerman only allowed four runs in five starts.”
The Swashbucklers opened with a 6-4 comeback win over Elite Coach (Pa.). Kris Bogach picked up the win and John Schreiber and Brian Jackson homered.
Zimmerman (three hits and three RBI) tossed a three-hitter as the Swashbucklers defeated the Wizards of Oz from Kansas 7-2. Lou Kass also had three hits and three RBI.
Kass and Bogach (winning pitcher) hit back-to-back homers in the Swashbucklers’ 12-6 win over Willow Street Tire (Pa.).
Zimmerman then tossed a two-hitter and Jackson homered in a 5-0 win over Bedford Rays (Pa.).
In a 10-8 loss to the Tornados of South Carolina Sunday night, Shaut’s club fell behind 9-0.
The Swashbucklers bounced back with a 2-1 win over Bedford Monday morning behind Zimmerman’s four-hitter and a key RBI from Kass.
Zimmerman beat the Tornados, 1-0, thanks in part to shortstop Steve Mullady’s diving stop with the tying run on the third in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Doubles by Nick Zirpoli and Bogach produced the run.
Zimmerman picked up his third win of the day and homered in the 9-2 title-game win over the Tornados. Schreiber and Corey Epstein had two hits each.
Zimmerman (MVP), Bogach, Kass, Schreiber, Jackson and Zirpoli were named first team ASA All-American, while Rodd Bray earned second-team honors.
Epstein, Shaut, Steve Schwartz, Mullady, Mike Conigliaro, Tom Unger, Vern Shaut, Rob Reilly and Dennis Surmanek rounded out the championship team’s roster.
Hard work without talent is a shame...but talent without hard work is a tragedy
Think About It...
Its the time at the cages, the hard work at the gym and leaving it all out on the field...that's why we're still playing on Sunday's while you're watching from the stands.
Remember what last year was...the past. You're only as good as your last tournament, your last at bat, your last play in the field.
A foundation has been put up and a house was built - the hardest part is keeping it from being knocked down. The easy part is becoming a champion...the hard part is remaining a champion.
1 Team...Not 15 Individuals
It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.
Teamwork: Simply stated, it is less me and more we.
Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
A successful team beats with one heart.
Teamwork divides the task and doubles the success.
None of us is as smart as all of us.
A group becomes a team when each member is sure enough of himself and his contribution to praise the skills of the others.
Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.
In order to have a winner, the team must have a feeling of unity; every player must put the team first-ahead of personal glory.
If a team is to reach its potential, each player must be willing to subordinate his personal goals to the good of the team.
Win together, lose together, play together, stay together.
They told me there is no “I” in team.
I am an athlete. I am an individual. I am strong. I am weak. I have desires, hopes, and dreams. I have goals. I have fears. As a team my opponent will never see my weaknesses. Only my strength, never my fears, only my goals as they unfold before them. I am not afraid that my team will see my fears, my hopes, dreams, or desires. I trust them to an unlimited level. I am not afraid that my team will see my faults, because With them I can overcome my faults, with them I am fearless, with them I have hopes and dreams. With my team I am not weak, I do not have the strength of one athlete, but of many, combined, focused, And dangerous to my un-united opponent. I become my team and my team becomes me. I do not judge, and I am not judged. I have a goal, and the team has a goal. The team goal is my goal. All that matters is that the team reaches its goal. They always told me there is no “I” in “Team”. They were wrong. I am the team. I became the team. The team became me. The team becomes an entity unto itself. The team is strong, creative, compassionate, caring, Authoritative, disciplined. The team absorbs “I”, and then there is “I” in “Team”. The “I” becomes part of something much more powerful.
They were right there is no “I” in “Team”, But there is “Team” in me.
