The Sykesville Umpire Program
The Sykesville Baseball program is extremely proud of our Umpire program which began over 20 years ago. During February and March each year, we conduct an Umpire Training class using the latest Major league techniques for rules training and mechanics training. Each umpire candidate in the class is given a package containing a Rule Book; Class hand-outs; and umpire gear, along with the verbal instruction provided during the 7 week class.
The Baseball program would not be able to succeed without this training program due to the fact that umpires are becoming a rare commodity. Our umpires repeat the class each year in order to maintain skills learned from the previous class and brush up on areas where improvement is needed.
There is a $25.00 class materials fee which covers the cost of the rule books and other materials used in the class. The 2017 class is scheduled to begin on Sunday, February 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the Sykesville Middle School cafeteria. Those interested in taking the class should contact Mr. Frank Markosky at 410-795-4175, or just come to the first class on February 5th. The class is limited to 12 year olds through adults.
Sykesville Baseball Library
Enjoy a good baseball story? Need some coaching tips? Are you a baseball stats & trivia geek? Come check out our new and growing baseball library in the clubhouse at Fairhaven Park. Feel free to borrow what you'd like, and if you care to donate any baseball-related books of your own, we'd be glad to have them. A special thanks to the Garrido family for their generous donation that got us started.
Effective Spring 2013, the Sykesville Baseball Senior Division will be required to use wood bats or BBCOR certified aluminum bats. To be certified, the bat must have a BBCOR measure of .5 or lower and carry a "BBCOR certified" label.
