Last Home Game
Friday nights game will be the U-15's last home game. Hopefully it will be at the high school stadium at 6:30 wheather permitting. Most of these boys have been playing together for 4 years so lets make sure we have a good turnout to see the boys play. The next time you'll get to see these guys play in Smithsburg will be next year for the high school. They are playing Brunswick who is 7-1 with their only loss coming against the boys in the first week of the season. This is going to be a tough game and the boys could use a little home crowd magic! Invite all your friends and family.

Smithsburg-4 Catoctin-2
No practice Friday 5/7
No practice this Friday. Have a great Mothers day weekend and be ready to get back to work on Monday. Next game is next Friday 5/14 against Brunswick
Boys move to 7-2 on the year beating Catoctin 4-2
Smithsburg pulled off the season sweep beating Catoctin 4-2. This was a real gut check for the boys and it wasn't as easy as the first game against Catoctin. With 3 players not in the lineup and 5 more getting injured during the game this was a typical Catoctin slugfest. With Austin making 10 great saves in goal and the defense locking down the Cougars our offense scored just enough to get out with a victory. Josh had a goal and 2 assists, Ryan had a goal and an assist, Justin and Garrett Brenk both scored and Dan had an assist. Josh, Kyle, Dan and Steven all had at least 5 ground balls and Kyle had 7 clears. Brad Johnson played some great D in the last quarter and Marco made a great interception of a pass in our defensive zone and got it out of trouble with under 2 minutes left. Get some rest and heal up the next game in 5/14 against Brunswick!

Team Pictures
TEAM PICTURES scheduled for April 24 and 25. More details to come.
Boys move to 2-0 with 8-1 win over Catoctin!
Playing Catoctin is never easy but we should all be proud of the composure
our team showed today playing a much bigger team that racked up 13 personal fouls and several unsportsman like fouls and warnings.

That said our boys kept their heads in the game and made them pay dearly for the rough play with crisp passing and ball movement that frustrated Catoctin all afternoon.

The offense was led by Ryan Karroll's 4 goals and 2 assists, Josh Thomas 4 assists and goal, Dan Pastwa's 2 goals. Assists by Garrett Brenk, Joseph Allen-Cole, and Steven Rishell.

Special congrats to Justin Buckley on getting his first goal!!

Leading the way defensively was Kyle Geblein with 8 ground balls and 5 clears. Steven Rishell also had a big game defensively with 6 ground balls and 2 clears and adding an assist for good measure. John Fraser also had 4 ground balls and won 2 faceoffs.

Zach Schaeffer faced seven shots and saved six to get his second win of the season.

This was a total team effort as everyone pitched in. After being hit by some big and questionable hits Ben Lapole, Luke Grove, and Corey Gibson
all got back up and continued to play through the pain to help ensure the win. Great job guys. You get a weeks rest to heal up.

Next game is a double header against Spires Red and Chambersburg at home April 10th. 4:30p and 6p
IMPORTANT SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR 5/1/10!

Offensively the scoring was led by Dan Pastwa (2), Garrett Brenk (2), Garrett Ghafir, Brad Delauter, and Josh Thomas with goals. Josh and Ryan Karroll both had 3 assists each.

VOLUNTEERS
March 5, 2010 We are looking for some volunteers. We have a scorekeeper for home games but we will need some people to run the clock and on away games we will need a scorekeeper. Anyone that would like to volunteer for any duties please let the coaches or team mom know.

Thanks for your help
IMPORTANT PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGE!
Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. From 5:15-dark until the clocks change. Then we will move to 5:30-7.
Welcome back coaches letter
Welcome to a new Lacrosse season. My name is Dan Geblein. I will be your head coach this year. Kurt Schaeffer and Sam Ghafir will be the assistant coaches. The season will be starting on Mar 1, 2010. As you know U15 lacrosse is about preparing the players for high school level lacrosse, but is not about equal playing time. It is about competing and attempting to win each game. All players will get playing time in every game, but the best players will get the most. No starting position is guaranteed to any player. If a player works hard and shows an extraordinary lacrosse skill they will start that week. Lacrosse is a skill sport that requires practice, especially on days that we are not practicing as a team.

So what does that mean? It means keep that stick in your hands everyday.

This year I expect all players to make every practice. We will be practicing M/W/F at the high school practice field from 5:15-dark, until the clocks change then it will be 5:30-7. We will work harder than we have ever worked in the past. The bulk of this team knows what it means to go undefeated and I expect nothing less this year.

The only acceptable reasons to miss practice are the following: (Please call me before practice)
1. You are sick.
2. You have a ton of homework. (School comes first, parents please let me know if your son is struggling in school)
3. You have a family emergency.
4. You are currently playing on a club lacrosse team and have a practice to attend for that team. (other sports are not included)
5. Unexpected traffic delays or overtime at work (parents I totally understand this) Please contact me if your son needs a ride.

The first week of practice we plan to practice Monday Mar 1, Tuesday Mar 2, and Friday Mar 5. The coaches have a conflict that Wednesday.

Parents you can contact me with any questions. My number is 240-527-5600.

Some tidbits for you:
The club requires that all players participate in the fundraiser. We rely on the fundraiser to keep our registration cost low.
All paperwork needs to go to the team mom, Wendy Ghafir. This allows the coaches to spend the most time teaching your son.
All paperwork needs to be turned in on time, please.
I understand that at some point you will be upset at me or one of the other coaches. If you do have any issues, please talk to us after practice and I will gladly discuss it with you. Please don't hold it in.
Just remember the coaches and I are volunteers and we do make mistakes, we welcome anyone who wants to help out.

I am looking forward to coaching your kids this season. Hopefully they will learn something new this year and have a blast playing this awesome game! I do encourage the parents to buy their own stick and learn the game as well.

See you at practice,
Dan Geblein
SYLC president and U15 head coach
