The 2009 GHS Baseball Banquet was held on June 5 at Sierra LaVerne Country Club. Look for photos to be posted in the "Albums" section soon. Connie Cage arranged a great event to close out the 2009 baseball season.

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Randy Carter after a battle with cancer. Brian and Riley Carter are both part of the GHS baseball family. Our prayers go out to the Carter family in this time of need. Randy was a fine man, an upstanding citizen, an excellent coach, and a good dad. He worked as a volunteer in the GHS Tournament as recently as this spring. It goes without saying that his wit and his willingness to pitch in will be greatly missed. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, dinners, or other acts of kindness, a contribution be made to the International Myeloma Foundation. A college fund for the boys is also under development.

Updated Complete CIF Baseball Brackets Sierra League Continues to Roll Glendora lost the second CIF game 4-0 to Redlands East Valley from the Citrus Belt League. That brings the season to its conclusion, the Tartans finsh at 19-8. Next up: the annual banquet! Chino Hills lost to Huntington Beach while Redlands East Valley lost to Crespi. Crespi beat Huntington Beach to capture the CIF Division 2 Championship Saturday at Angels Stadium.

Tartans Finish 2nd in Sierra League, After beating Ayala Thursday, the varsity team had to wait for the completion of the Damien-Chino game in Chino. A Damien victory would put Glendora in first place. However, Chino overcame a 5-3 deficit in the 5th inning to win 12-5, dropping the Tartans to second, with Chino claiming the Sierra League Championship.

Freshman Game Dedicated to Brandon Villalobos The Freshman Glendora vs. Damien Game was a fundraiser for a scholarship in Brandon's Name. All of the proceeds from the snack bar were donated and a number of other donors stepped up to the plate. We are hoping that this kind of thing will help to heal the pain of Brandon's passing. He was a bright light in this world and it would be nice to keep the light shining. Brent and Lynda recruited each of the players from PONY to donate $1.00 each to this fund. We would like to thank everyone that came out to support our freshman team and the fundraiser for a GHS scholarship in Brandon's name. We raised just over $8,000. With a commitment from the Booster's club to make up any investment shortfalls, that's enough to fund an annual scholarship in perpetuity. Thank you

2010-11 Sierra League re-realigned. The Mt Sac CIF District held a hearing on league realignment last Thursday. Glendora Principal Kelley Bruce pleaded the GHS case. Result: Granted its appeal to move back to the Sierra League, which would make the Sierra a six-team league with South Hills moving out. The new Sierra League would include Glendora, Charter Oak, Chino Hills, Ayala, Damien/St. Lucy's and Claremont.
After having their appeals denied, Charter Oak and Rowland are expected to file another appeal to the Executive Council for consideration. The final decision on releaguing is not expected until October.
Newest news: The Skinny on the Releaguing: After a vote by 42 principals and two appeals hearings, The Mt. SAC-area league realignment for 2010-14 will go to a final vote on October 22 in Long Beach by the seven-league representatives that form the Mt. SAC area. Three proposals are on the table for the Mt. SAC area league representatives to consider after Wednesday's CIF-Southern Section Executive Council meeting passed Rowland's appeal to move from the proposed San Antonio/Miramonte League to the Valle Vista by a near unanimous margin. However, a lot would have to happen for Rowland's appeal to actually become reality. What happens next is the seven league representatives that form the Mt. SAC area, which include the Valle Vista, Montview, Sierra, San Antonio, Mt. Baldy, Baseline and Miramonte League's, will each have one vote at the October meeting. To continue reading and peak at all the proposals, click thread
The first proposal voted on will be the original proposal, Proposal A, which was voted on by the 42 principals that form the Mt. SAC area. Proposal A became a heated debate at subsequent hearings after Glendora was moved from the Sierra League to the Baseline League. Charter Oak and South Hills moved from the Miramonte and San Antonio League's respectively, to the Sierra League. Nogales and Wilson were awarded relief to the Montview League, and Rowland was placed in the Miramonte/San Antonio League. The seven-league reps will vote on Proposal A first, and if it passes by a majority margin it becomes final, nullifying the appeals that were passed by the Releaguing Committee and Executive Council. If Proposal A does not pass by a majority margin, the seven-league reps will next vote on Proposal B, which was passed by the Releaguing Committee last month that moved Glendora back to the Sierra League and South Hills to the San Antonio/Miramonte League with the rest of Proposal A remaining the same. This does not need a majority to pass, but with seven votes, a majority vote pass is needed for passage. If Proposal B passes, Glendora and South Hills will move to the Sierra and San Antono/Miramonte respectively, with the rest of Proposal A remaining the same.
If proposal B does not pass, then the league reps will vote on proposal C, which was recommended by the Executive Council on Wednesday with 18 in favor of moving Rowland from the Miramonte/San Antonio to the Valle Vista league, with just one opposed and four abstentions. If proposal C passes by a majority margin, Rowland moves to the Valle Vista with the rest of proposal A remaining the same. If all three proposals do not pass, then Proposal A by the 42 principals becomes final.
The CIF-SS released a statement outlining the procedure as well. "The original area proposal and any alternatives recommended by the Releaguing Committee or Executive Committee shall be voted upon at the October Council meeting. "The procedure for voting will be: (1) the original area proposal will be voted upon first and must secure a majority vote for passage (a tie vote would not be considered as passage); (2) in the event step #1 is not accomplished, then any alternate proposal recommended by the Releaguing Committee or Executive Committee will then be voted upon. (For purposes of developing a working proposal, a tie vote on the alternate proposal would constitute passage.) Only league representative from the area may vote upon the area proposal."

The 2009 Glendora High School Baseball Team

The GHS JV Team finished with an overall record of 16-5-1. Their Sierra League record is 10-4-1. It has been a great year for the boys and Coach Nall.

The Frosh ended up 14-9-1 overall. Their Sierra League record was 8-7 after winning their last game against Ayala. Again, another successful season! Congratulations and thank you to Coach Bonderant and Coach Mayhew and Coach Cashion.

Arcadia Tournament Champions! Glendora beat Arcadia 3-0 Wednesday night to win the Arcadia Baseball Tournament for the 2nd year in a row. The Tartans beat two top-10 CIF Div II teams (#9 St. Francis and #8 Arcadia) as well as Division IV's #3 ranked team, San Dimas. Check out the pictures in the Photo Album!

Tartans advance to Finals in the 32nd Annual Glendora High School Baseball Tournament. Ty Tallakson and Jason Euston did a great job running the tournament. Bonita won the championship game, but Glendora played well and should be ready to go in the Sierra League. Northview beat Diamond Ranch to take third. Ayala beat Bishop Amat to win 5th place; the Sierra league will be tough this year! Many thanks to all the volunteers - THAT'S ALL of YOU!!! The San Gabriel Valley Tribune recently printed this statement: A Big Thanks: To the Glendora tournament officials. If you're wondering why that tournament was covered so well, it's because officials emailed boxscores to our desk and me as soon as the games were over. It's the most well-run and well-organized tournament around. Other tournaments should take note, you want better exposure, then get us results and update the pairings so we can get it to the readers. Your work does not go unnoticed! Thank you again!

March 28, 2009 - 07:00 AM The 2nd Annual GHS Baseball Car Show and Silent Auction was a great success Many thanks to Mrs Tourtelotte and the Staff at Whitcomb High School.
