NEVER INTIMIDATED
November 17, 2009
The bruisers overcame many odds in their exciting victory over the Animal House Guinea's at Freeport arena. Not only did the Bruisers have to deal with terrible arena conditions, there was so much fog in the bubble that you couldnt see the scoreboard or the other end of the ice. But they also had to overcome some over-aggressive primadonna wannabe tough hockey players. After the Animal house warmed up without helmets on, they proceded to take cheapshots and play very aggerssively in an effort to intimidate the Bruisers. But Keith Nelson showed Paisan number 21 what tough was when he beat his ass in a brawl that the Animal house player started. Jimmy Ketterer scored 2 goals, Bob Stein added a goal but it was Sean Kenney who broke a 4-4 tie with less than 3 minutes to play with a slap shot that beat the House Goalie. Vinny Budano was great in net stopping 22 shots for the win.
Swordfish lose their Easiest matchup of Year
November 6, 2009
It was supposed to be the easiest game of the season for the Swordfish. Playing a team in a division below them that had lost 2 bad games in a row. Even their captain reminded their team in warm ups - "This is our easiest game tonight guys, we've got this" said Jay Beltram. But what the Swordfish forgot is that the last time they met the Bruisers - they lost. Last night at Parkwood the Swordfish had a rude awakening. If that was their easiest game of the season they probably wont win. The Bruisers took it to them all game long dominating in a 6-2 win. Jimmy Ketterrer had the hat trick - Steve Plackis, Keith Nelson and Rob Del Muro Jr each had a goal and an assist and Vinny Budano had a bounceback game in net with 20 saves. The win evens the Bruisers record at 2-2 and gives them plenty of confidence going into the final 13 games of the season. "We really wanted this one, we hate those guys, their scumbags and we weren't losing this game" said Bruiser forward Rob Del Muro Jr. "We remember what they did last time we played them in the playoffs, and now they added Toe Drag, there is nothing to like about that team" said Joe Cangro. Joe was referring to the fight that 22 started in the playoff game that resulted in many suspensions for the sword-pussies. 22 - Chris Shiro tried to play a dick style of hockey again last night but was put in his place by Steve Plackis.
WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS
November 5, 2009
The Bruisers would like to congratulate the Yankees on their 27th World Series Title. Furthermore we would like to thank the Bronx Bombers for wrapping up the series in 6 games so that none of the Bruiser players would have to choose between doing "homework" and playing in the Swordfish game Thursday night - the night of game 7.
Bruisers Drop 2nd Straight
November 4, 2009
Red Rum scored on their first shot on net and set the tone by taking a quick 3-0 lead on the Bruisers. Although the Bruisers were able to come back and tie the game at 4 - Red Rum took advantage of sloppy Bruiser play in all areas of the game and came out with a 10-8 win. Sean Kenney did his best to keep the team in the game scoring six times and adding an assist. Rob Del Muro Jr. Scored the other two Bruiser goals. Vinny Budano had his worst day as a Bruiser goalie making only 11 saves on 21 shots. The Bruisers try to even their record at 2-2 on Thursday night against their biggest rivals, the Swordfish

Shorthanded Bruisers Fall Again
August 10, 2009
Playing without star forwards Jimmy Ketterrer and Kimber Auerbach the Bruisers Dropped their second straight game 10-6 at the hands of the Outlaws. The key moment came with just 2 tenths of a second left in the second period. After trailing 5-0. The Bruisers stormed back - goals by Tommy Lai, Sam Tim Grossmann and a PP goal by Rob Del Muro Jr. made it a 5-3 game with just 1:46 to go in the 2nd. But an Outlaw undressed the defense to light the lamp with less than a second to play, that was the back breaker. The Outlaws capitalized on that momentum shift by scoring twice in the opening minute of the period to make it an 8-3 game. Third period goals by Del Muro, Bob Stein and Sean Kenney were not enough to close the gap. That line combined for 10 points, Kenney had a goal and 3 assists, Stein a goal and 2 assists and Del Muro had 2 goals and 1 assist. Tommy Lai added a goal and 2 assists from the Point. The Bruisers are now 4-2
Bruisers Fall in Championship Rematch
August 3, 2009
The Bruisers 4-0 start to the summer season ran into a hot goalie, and were unable to hold a 3-2 third period lead in their first loss of the season. Sean Kenney, Jimmy Ketterrer and Tommy Lai scored for the Bruisers who outshot Mayhem by over 20 shots.
Statement Win
July 29, 2009
Down 6-2 late in the Third period to the other Unbeaten team in the Division - most people were looking forward to Sundays Championship rematch with Mayhem. But not the 16 Bruisers on the ice. Bob Stein scored his first goal of the season to make it a 6-3 game. Then shorthanded the floodgates opened - Keith Lazar finished a shorthanded 2 on 1 with Kimber Auerbach to make it a 2 goal game. Then moments later Bob Steins Slap shot from the point was stopped but Rob Del Muro Jr. was there to put home the rebound for his fourth of the season with 2:23 left - it was a 6-5 game. Stein would take a penalty again - but with 1:11 left Frank Izzy scored his first career Bruiser goal to tie the game at 6. And with 11 seconds left off of a faceoff win by Auerbach, Jimmy Ketterrer scored off his own rebound with just 7 seconds left, that was the game winner. With the 7-6 win the Bruisers stand alone atop the standings midway through the season. Sunday night is the rematch of last seasons Championship game - against Mayhem at 10:30 at Bethpage Arena
Bruisers Score 9 Unanswered in Win
July 22, 2009
Trailing 3-1 midway through the second period - The Bruisers got a power play goal from Sean Kenney and scored 8 more unanswered goals in a 10-3 win. With the win the Bruisers open the summer season with a 3-0 record, last summer they finished the regular season at 4-4 but ran the table in the playoffs for their second of three straight Championships. Newcomer Kimber Auerbach and the returning "sam" Tim Grossmann combined for 5 points in the third period, Grossmann completed a hat trick while Auerbach had 2 assists and hit two posts. Vinny Budano made 19 saves for the win in net. Kenney also had a hat trick, and Keith Nelson had a goal and 2 assists. Kenny Returns, Scores Game Winner
July 21, 2009
After missing opening day with a rib injury Sean Kenney's 8th point of the game was the game winner with under 5 minutes to go in the Bruisers 9-8 win over the rival Morkmen. Kenney had 4 goals and 4 assists, linemates Jimmy Ketterrer had 3 goals and 3 assists and Rob Del Muro Jr. added a goal and an assist, Defenseman Tommy Lai had the other Bruiser goal. Keith Nelson followed up his 4 point game with a 28 Penalty minute game in a game with many fights and altercations. Dan Mahoney extended his point streak to 2 with an assist on the game winner - and Matt Brousseau had 2 assists in the win.
Nelson Picks up Cousins Absense with Hat trick
Keith Nelson picked up his cousin and star center Sean Kenney who missed the game with a rib strain by scoring three times and adding an assist in the Bruisers opening Summer league win over Hex-D.
Jimmy Ketterrer added a goal and 2 assists, Rob Del Muro Jr. also added a goal and a helper, Keith Lazar and Kevin Searing each added a goal and an assist from the Blueline. Dan Mahoney had 2 assists in the game. "I put myself through a heavy offseason workout regimen, knowing that if i did so i could score more than Sean Kenney, and obviuosly i am already two points up on him" said Dan Mahoney, "I think i will definitely double his points this season" he continued. Tommy Lai added 2 assists in his Bruiser debut. Nelson who missed game 3 of the Championship series in the Spring season provided a spark playing with Mahoney and Matt Brousseau. Vinny Budano made 22 saves on 25 shots for the win in net. The next game is against Morkmen - in a rematch of the Fall season championship, which the Bruisers won in three games on Sunday night at 10:30 at Bethpage.

No 4-Peat for Bruisers
July 3, 2009
Everything that could go wrong for the Bruisers in the Championship game, did go wrong. It all started with Keith Nelson boarding a plane at 6am to go to Florida and it was all down hill from there. Leading scorer Sean Kenney spent most of the game in the penalty box and then was kicked out by the "Fat-Fuck" ref. Jimmy Ketterrer's skate broke which took him out of his game. Rob Del Muro Jr. Scored the only 2 goals of the game for the Bruisers, as Mayhem ousted them with an 11-2 win.
Comeback of the Year
July 1, 2009
The favor was returned. Last week Mayhem came back in stunning fashion to beat the Bruisers - and today - the Bruisers returned the favor - down 4-0 in the third period - Jimmy Ketterrer rose to the occassion - scoring 4 times and assisting on a Sean Kenney goal leading the Bruisers to a 6-5 thrilling win. Ketterrer scored the game winner shorthanded with just 34 seconds left after tying the game on the power play with 2:17 remaining. Rob Del Muro Jr. had the other goal in the third period. Vinny Budano stopped 28 shots for the win in net. The win sets up an all or nothing game Wednesday night for the Title. The game is at 7:45 at Newbridge
Nelson, Budano Lead Bruisers to Finals
Vinny Budano and the Bruisers defense picked the right time to get his first career shutout. BUdano made 22 saves, the Defense played great perfect hockey in front of him for a 3-0 win in a do or die playoff game. Keith Nelson had the opening goal and two assissts, in his best game of his Bruisers career. Rob Del Muro scored the other two goals both set up by Nelson to set up a rematch with Mayhem for the championship - The first game is Tue. Night at 9:15 at Newbridge - come out and support your favorite HLI team
Bruisers Blow Playoff Game
June 26, 2009
The Bruisers had a 7-4 lead with under 3 minutes to play in their first playoff game against Mayhem but lost the lead and then the game in overtime - with the defeat the 3 time defending Champions are facing elimination. They must win their game with PLT to get a chance to redeem themselves in the finals vs. Mayhem. Jimmy Ketterrer had 3 goals, Sean Kenney had 2 goal and 3 assissts, Rob Del muro had a 1g, and 1a and Joe Cangro had a goal in the defeat
Bruisers Win Division
The Bruisers won their second straight game and won the D2 Division title with a 6-2 win over the sharks. Jimmy Ketterrer had 3 goals and an assist, Sean Kenney had 2 goals and 2 assists leading the charge in a penalty filled game. Brandon Salz was offered a contract by the WWE after planting a DDT on a Shark player after the player laid out Anthony "queer" McEniry. Salz who only had 2 penalty minutes this season coming into the game put himself into the Goon standings with 26 penalties in the game. Officer Mike Vecchi and McEniry also got 14 mins. of penalties in the ensuing brawl. Rob Del Muro Jr. scored the other Bruiser goal after Vecchi took a slap shot at his stomach at the end of the first period.
Shorthanded Bruisers beat Top C level team
With key players unable to attend a Sunday early evening game, The Bruisers found a way to stop their 3 game losing streak defeating the top team in the 30+C division by an 8-3 score. Vinny Budano stood on his head making 22 saves, Sean Kenney, Jimmy Ketterrer, and Rob Del Muro Jr. all had 2 goals, the Keiths(Nelson and Lazar) each chipped in a goal. The win clinches at least second place in the division, and puts the Bruisers only 1 point out of first place with a game in hand.
Bruisers Lose Third Straight
After two straight overtime losses the Bruisers finally dropped a game in regulation. Four quick Mayhem first period goals put the 3 time Defending Champs in a big hole. A few bad bounces and defensive breakdowns led to a few breakaways and odd man rushes against. As a result of the loss the Bruisers have fallen out of first place for the first time since last August in the Summer season. Since winning the summer title the Bruisers had never spent a day out of first place in the 9 months since August. They are now tied with PLT for 2nd place in the division. After falling behind 4-1 the Team came back and played their game, Sean kenney lit the lamp to get it to a 4-2 deficet. Joe Cangro who opened the scoring scored 2 straight goals to complete the hat trick and get the Bruisers within one goal down 5-4 in the third. Midway through the third Rob Del Muro Jr. Thought he tied the game when he poked a rebound past the goalie but the Referee waved the goal off saying the whistle was blown. The controversial call cost the team the tying goal, even the Mayhem goalie said they "got lucky". After that the Mayhem added a few goals to put the game out of reach winning the game 7-5. With about two weeks before the next game, its time for the Bruisers to dig deep, long gone is the 6-0 start that they opened the season with, now the only streak that matters is the three straight losses.
BRUISERS DECIDE ON NEW JERSEYS!
May 8, 2009
The votes have concluded and after a locker room discussion the Bruisers have decided on their new jerseys that will debut in the Fall 2009 superseason. The team will shortly order and unveil jerseys resembling the old QUEBEC NORDIQUES jerseys. For a look at those check out this link... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/rcmcme/MakeYourOwnJersey/MakeYourOwnNordiquesJersey.gif
Instead of the Nordiques "N" there will be a new Bruisers logo on the jerseys with the Bruiser Goon Face on the sleeves. The blue jerseys will be the home jerseys, the white when they are the road team. In each season the Bruisers will have at least 1 throwback night where they will wear their original jerseys for a game. It was also voted on during the vote by a 1 vote margin to not have names on the back of the jerseys but will get the numbers sewn on with numbers on the sleeves and front chest
Another OT Loss
May 8, 2009
For the second straight game the Bruisers lost a game in overtime - this time a 5-4 defeat at the hands of PLT. This was a game that will more be remembered by the dumb penalties called than the actual play on the ice. "The Referees must have thought they get a bonus for each 10 minutes misconduct penalty they gave out" said assistant Bruiser captain Anthony McEniry. For some reason unknown to many, Sean Kenney AND Kevin Searing both got 14 minute penalties in the opening minute for either talking to a PLT player or breathing on one, our investigation continues. Playing without their star(Kenney), the Bruisers went down 2-0 early but fought back. Keith Nelson finished a pretty passing play started by Bob Stein at his own blue line, finding Rob Del Muro Jr. across the ice at PLT's Blueline - he gave it to Nelson for his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-1. In the opening minute of the 2nd period Keith Lazar carried the puck down the ice and gave it to Brandon Salz who gave a backhand pass to Sam Tim Grossmann who beat the goalie low to tie the game. Down 3-2 Jimmy Ketterrer tied the game after a spin-o-rama and then in the final minutes, he tied the game at 4 sending it to overtime converting a Salz pass with under 5 minutes to go in the game. But Jimmy was in the penalty box when PLT won the game just 22 seconds into OT. Contrary to popular belief Ketterrer has yet to be suspended for the next game against the Mayhem on Thursday. Our records show it was the first game since last summer seasons playoffs that Sean Kenney did not score a goal. In that summer playoff game Ketterrer scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win in the semifinals.
Bruisers Fall in OT
We all know the story, there are many excuses/reasons for the collapse against the Outlaws. I'll leave it to you to choose your reason/excuse. We can blame poor officiating, Many calls could have been made against the Hogs, and the fifth goal by the Hogs was clearly an offsides. You can blame Rob Del Muro Jr.(Me) for taking the penalty at the end of the game for arguing the offsides play that directly led to a goal, That's fine with me I'll gladly accept the responsibility for putting us a man short. We can also blame the scoreboard/scorekeeper. There was no way that the third period was only 15 minutes, nor can you ever convince me that he had the correct time in the final minutes. Also when there is a close game in the final minutes and overtime they need to let you know how much time is left during play, every minute hit the buzzer real quick. Or blame the team as a team for blowing a 6-3 third period lead and letting all these factors get in their head and get off our game. Either way there were positives to come out of this game. We played a very VERY, good team, the ice Hogs were undefeated and giving up less than 2 goals a game. We had this game in the bag and scored six goals on a great defensive team. Sean Kenney led the way with 2 goals and an assist, and linemate Jimmy Ketterrer had three assists. Keith Nelson scored on the power play as did Tim Grossmann. Joe Cangro and Kevin Searing rounded out the scoring. Not lost in the game was the performance of Vinny Budano who each game gets better and better. Some of his saves were highlight worthy. I think we played very very well against a good team for the first 95% of the game - but we still got a point in the standings and this team will not be a team we have to worry about in the playoffs. Once again i apologize for taking my penalty late in the game.
Budano Steps Up
April 28, 2009
Vinny Budano kept a high powered Outlaws offense at bay in the opening period and the rest of the team responded in maybe the most impressive Bruiser win so far this year. With their 7-4 win over the Outlaws, a team that combined some players from SFC with some new additions, the Bruisers are 6-0 at the midway point of the Spring season. The game had a little bit of everything, great goaltending, scoring, physical play, and a lot of power plays. Bob Stein started out the scoring with his first career Bruiser goal. Less than a minute later Jimmy Ketterer lit the lamp to make it 2-1 Bruisers. Sam Tim Grossmann went coast to coast to make it a 3-1 Bruiser lead heading to the break. In the second it was more of the same from the BruisersSean Kenney scored the first of his two goals on the night in the opening minutes on the power play, just a minute later Kevin Searing's shot on the point was redirected in by Rob Del Muro Jr. on the man advantage for a 5-1 Bruiser lead. Ketterrer added a goal late in the period also on the power play. In all the Bruisers scored 4 power play goals. Vinny Budano made "50" saves on "54" shots. Keith Goon Nelson had 8 Penalty minutes to go with an assist. Keith Lazar had 2 more assists to give him 8 points in 4 games so far this season. The Bruisers next play the Ice Hogs, an undefeated team from the 30+D league team with only 11 goals against in 6 games
Statement Win!
April 23, 2009
Coming into the Spring season the Bruisers knew that moving up to a higher division was going to have its challenges. In D2 there were two teams that the Bruisers were going to have to beat to get to the top of the mountain. After beating PLT on Monday the Bruisers turned their attention to Mayhem - the team to beat in Division two. And the Bruisers answered the challenge. Vinny Budano played his best game in net to date and a balanced offensive attack tired out Mayhem in a 10-6 Bruiser win. Although Sean Kenney and Jimmy Ketterer once again put up big numbers in the game, Kenney with 3 goals 2 assists and Ketterrer with 2 goals 3 assists, once again it was the role players stepping up to help provide offense. One game after Anthony Anzalone scored a goal Dan Mahoney kept pace scoring his first of the season to give the Bruisers a 1-0 lead. Mike Vecchi made it 2-1 Bruisers with his first goal of the season. Matt Brousseau who is used to lighting the lamp on his Storm team but is asked to play defensive hockey for the Bruisers also scored a goal. Rob Del Muro Jr. and Keith Nelson rounded out the scoring, both players had a goal and 2 assists. The Bruisers are 5-0 now heading into interleague matchups next weeks against the Outlaws and Ice Hogs.
Bruisers finally beat PLT
April 21, 2009
In a battle of two teams vying for first place in the HLI D2 Division the Bruisers put a 4 game losing streak against PLT to rest with a convincing 8-3 win. The Bruisers dominated the team in every facet of the game outshooting them 37-17. Sean Kenney had 4 goals and an assist and Jimmy Ketterer had 2 goals 2 assists, their linemate Anthony Anzalone had a goal and assist. Keith Nelson had the other Bruisers goal and Bob Stein officially became a Bruiser with a big takedown of one of the PLT guys. Up next for the three time defending Champs is Mayhem, possibly the other team that they and PLT will have to deal with for the title. Mayhem comes into the game with a 2-0-1 record and is the defending D2 division champs although they didnt turn that finish into a title - they were the runner ups
BRUISERS MOVE TO 3-0
April 10, 2009
Playing their 3rd game in a week the Bruisers made it a perfect 3 for 3 by beating the Sharks 9-6 and improving their record to 3-0 in their defense of three straight HLI Championships. Sean Kenney, as usual led the way scoring 4 goals. Sam Tim Holla at Ya Boy Grossmann had 2 goals, Brendan Salz, Keith Lazar and Matt Brousseau rounded out the scoring. Salz had 3 assists, Lazar also added 2 assists. Dan Mahoney extended his point scoring streak to 3 games with his fourth assist of the season.
Bruisers win on Goons 21st B-day
April 7, 2009
With their assistant captain suspended on his 21st birthday the Bruisers won a close game for Goon 7-6 over Red Rum to improve their record to 2-0. Hockey Long Islands three time defending champs took a 3-0 lead on goals in the first period by Jimmy Ketterer, Rob Del Muro Jr. and Sam Tim Grossmann. But the Rums responded scoring 4 straight goals. But just 10 seconds after the Rums took a 4-3 lead, Brandon Salz gave the team a boost tying the game up with a wrist shot from the right circle. "Salzie definitely picked up his game tonight, not only scoring that big tying goal but he could have easily had 3 or 4 other goals" said Bruiser forward Rob Del Muro after the game. That goal gave the team the lift they needed, Jimmy Ketterer would go on to give the team a 5-4 lead less than three minutes later. Rob Del Muro scored the final two Bruiser goals to complete the hat trick. Mike Vecchi had three assists, Bob Stein had his first two career Bruiser points assisting on two of Del Muros goals. Dan Mahoney had his third assist in the teams first two games. Matt Brousseau in addition of having an assist also blocked numerous shots in front of goalie Vinny Budano who made 25 saves for the win.
Kenney, Ketterrer Dominate
April 3, 2009
The only other time the Bruisers and Red Rum met - Sean Kenney and Jimmy Ketterrer each had 4 points in a Bruiser win. Last night was no different. Sean Kenney had 5 goals and 1 assist, Superstar had 3 goals and 2 assists and the Bruisers went on to a 10-5 win in the opening game of the Spring season. Joe Cangro and Brandon Salz scored the other two goals. Dan Mahoney contributed 2 assists in the win. Vinny Budano made 32 saves in net for the 3 time defending champs.
Spring Preview - The Quest for the 4-Peat
March 31, 2009
Just 9 days after winning their third straight Long Island Cup, the Bruisers return to the ice on their quest for a four-peat. This seasons team is shaping up to be the best, most talented team that they have taken on the ice. Starting in net Vinny Budano starts his first full season as the full time net-minder. An already solid defense gets even stronger with the move of Matt Brousseau back to D to partner with Keith Lazar. As always, the Defense is led by captain Joe Cangro and assistant Captain Mike Vecchi. Kevin Searing coming off a very solid rookie campaign that saw him contribute 14 points and Anthony "Goon" Queer McEniry round out the defenisve corps. The addition of Rob Stein and the return to full time action by Jimmy Ketterer at forward adds to an already potent group. The Bruiser offense is as balanced as any time in recent memory. Check this stat out - the top three scorers on the fall team all played on Separate lines. That makes it almost impossible for teams to put a top defensive pair out to stop a top line. Fall MVP Sean Kenney will lead the top line of himself, Jimmy Ketterer, and Anthony Anzalone. Last season Kenney set a Bruiser record for goals(36), assists(29), and points(65) including playoffs. Superstar Jimmy ketterer had 22 points in only 7 games, good for 6th on the team in scoring in less than half the teams games. Anzalone looks to build off a great playoff recording 2 goals and an assist in the post-season. The "Bomber" line of Rob Del Muro Jr. Keith Nelson and Bob Stein is a collection of three forwards that played on the same line together on their old Island Ice Hockey league team the Bombers. Nelson looks to shrug off an arm injury, in Last weeks championship game - the left wing was able to score two goals despite severe pain, On the other wing Del Muro will look to build on a season where he set a career high in goals with 26 and points with 37. Maybe no two Bruisers have the chemistry that Brandon Salz and Sam Tim Grossmann have - Salz was second on the team in assists with 21 including some gorgeous set ups to Ocho Cuatro. Tim tied for second with 26 goals in only his second season with the team, and also put up an impressive 40 points, also second to Kenney, rounding out their line is Dan Mahoney. Although the team has moved up a division(a division they won last summer), this roster looks like one who can win on any given night whether it be with defense, stellar goaltending or a high powered offense.
THREE-PEAT
March 25, 2009
The Bruisers have once again won the HLI championship beating the pesky Morkmen 8-6. It is their third Championship in the past 9 months. HOCKEY LI PLAYOFF MVP Sean Kenney got back in time from the Brittney Spears concert to score three times, Keith Nelson added two of his own playing with an upper body injury. Rob Del Muro Jr. Tim Grossmann and Jimmy Ketterrer added Bruiser goals. Goalie Vinny Budano stopped 14 of 20 shots to win his first championship in net.
Do or Die Tonight!
March 24, 2009
It was a back and forth game all night and uncharacteristically the Bruisers lost a tie game in the third period. Tim Grossmann deflected a Mike Vecchi slap shot to give the Bruisers an early lead 3 minutes later the Morkmen would tie it but 58 seconds later Sam Tim struck again to make it a 2-1 game. But the Morkmen came back quickly once again making the score 2-2 after 1. 7 Seconds into the second period the Morkmen took a 3-2 lead on after receiving a bad bounce off the faceoff. But once again the Bruisers would respond - Rob Del Muro Jr. took the rebound of the Jimmy Ketterrer shot and put it in the back of the net to tie it at three. Later in the period the two hooked up again- Ketterrer to Del Muro for his second of the game and 5th of the playoffs for a 4-3 lead. But just 21 seconds later the Morkmen once again tied the game at 4. Brandon Salz's shorthanded goal gave the Bruisers a 5-4 lead going into the 3rd. But it ended there the Morkmen scored 3 third period goals forcing a decisive game tonight at Iceland. The Bruisers took 10 penalties in the game, and Brandon Salz was stopped on a shorthanded penalty shot with 11:16 left in the third period. The Morkmens winning goal came just a minute later on the continued power play.

Lookin' To 3-Peat

In what was one of the best team efforts that the Bruisers have had all season - Hockey LI's 2 time defending champions punched their ticket to the championship with a 11-4 win over the Morkmen. Every single Bruiser contributed to the win one way or another. Keith Nelson assisted on three Rob Del Muro First period goals to get the team started and the team never looked back. Brendan Salz not once but twice went behind the back finding Sam Tim Grossmann who was able to finish. Sean Kenney also scored 2 times and had three assists. Jimmy Ketterrer returned to the lineup with three assists. Kevin Searing and Keith Lazar also graced the scoresheet. Goon Pitched in with some nice blocked shots. Matt Brousseau was dynamite in the faceoff circle - one win leading directly to a Nelson goal. In net Vinny Budano made the big saves when he had to. And oh yeah some kid Anthony Anzalone must have eaten his Wheaties and taken his HGH before the game because he potted two goals. Hmmm Anzalone and HGH - make sure not too take too much of it - i hear it makes you grow excessive body hair. Of course if the Bruisers win the championship - Party at Del Muro's!
Giant Disappointment!
February 27, 2009
If the Bruisers want to win their third straight HLI championship they better look at the downfall of the 2008 New York Giants. The similarities are striking. Both teams started 11-1 while defending a championship - and both lost 3 of the last 4 to finish 12-4 with the top seed and a first round bye. The Giants ended their season with a disappointing playoff loss to the Eagles - hopefully thats where the similarities end. For the second straight game the Bruisers allowed FIVE third period goals and lost 7-6. After the loss all the questions and controversies began heading into the playoffs(once again see NYG, Plaxico Burress). The Starting goalie position has come into question among other issues that need to be resolved before the playoffs start if they are tow in another title. There is good news - the Bruisers did score 6 goals again including 4 goals in the third period and were able to come back from 6-4 down in the final 4 minutes to get it to a 6-6 tie. Sean Kenney had 4 points, Brandon Salz had 2 goals, Rob Del Muro, Keith Nelson and Matt Brousseau also scored for the Bruisers, Keith Lazar contributed 2 more assists. All eyes are looking forward to the playoffs - as the Bruisers go for a three-pete.
Bruisers Lose Again
February 13, 2009
The Bruisers put forth a disappointing start to the game and were unable to claw their way back in their 10-8 loss to SFC. Minutes into the 2nd period the deficet was 5-1 but the line of Brandon Salz, Tim Grossmann and Rob Del Muro scored 3 goals in 1 minute and 8 seconds. But Sfc answered just 19 seconds later. They got within 1 goal 3 times but never were able to get the tying score. On a positive note - Del Muro and Sean Kenney each had hat tricks and Grossmann had 2 goals and 2 assists. Those three accounted for all 8 goals and are the stars of the game.
Streak Halted
February 1, 2009
The Bruisers 11 game winning streak ended with a 6-3 loss to PLT this Thursday night. Sean Kenney and Keith Nelson provided the offense. The three stars of the game were
3. Joe Cangro
2. Sean Kenney
1. Keith Nelson
Lazar Leads Way
January 27, 2009
The biggest upside about the Bruisers is that they dont rely on just one person or line to give them a lift. On any given night any number of Bruisers can be the catalyst to a win - That was never more evident than against the Morkmen on Sunday. Keith Lazar led the way with a career night with 2 goals and 2 assists, and a returning Matt Brousseau scored and assisted on another in the Bruisers 8-2 win. Scotty Berge stopped 23 shots improving the teams record to 11-1. The goal scoring and goaltending was only half the story. The other half was the physical nature of the game. Anthony Goon McEniry stepped up in defense of teamates Vinny Budano and Dan Mahoney earning 24 penalty minutes. Other goals were scored by Sean Kenney (2), Vinny Budano, Rob Del Muro Jr and Tim Grossmann. The three stars of the 11th straight win were
3. Goon - the ultimate teamate showed his value
2. Matt Brousseau - goal, assist in return
1. Keith Lazar - 2 goals, 2 assists and 2 hits
Perfect 10!
January 23, 2009
The Bruisers downed the Second place Vipers Thursday night for their 10th straight win. Sean Kenney scored 3 unassisted goals, Brandon Salz opened the scoring with a gritty goal and Sam Tim Grossmann scored two late third period goals to put the game away. Scotty Berge improved to 9-0 this season making 15 saves on 18 shots. Anthony McEniry lived up to the name goon with 12 penalty minutes - on the same play - but he is more of a goon on Xbox where no one can physically respond to him The three stars of the game were
3. Scotty Berge - No One can downplay 9 straight wins
2. Brandon Salz - 1 goal 2 assists
1. Who else????? you guess
Make it 9
January 15, 2009
The Bruisers made it 9 straight wins with a gutty win over Red Rum from a league above them. After giving up 2 goals in the final 36 seconds of the 2nd period that put the Bruisers in a 5-4 hole - the 2 time defending LI Champs won the third period 3-0 for a 7-5 win. Jimmy Ketterrer had 2 goals and 3 assists - Sean Kenney had a hat trick and an assist - Brandon Salz scored on a nice defelction and Tim Grossman was awarded with a goal in the final seconds.
The three stars of the game are:
3. Mike Vecchi - assist, strongest game since the first Bruiser season
2. Sean Kenney - 3 goals 1 assist
1. Jimmy Ketterrer - 2 goals 3 assists
8 Straight!
January 8, 2009
Even 3 weeks off wasn't enough to slow down the 2 time defending HLI champions Bruisers. Vinny Budano and Joe Cangro scored less than 2 minutes into the game to set the tone and the Bruisers cruised from there. After losing the season opener to SFC the Bruisers have won 8 straight games to take the lead in the division. With 11 total goals the Bruisers have scored 27 goals in the last two games. The scoring was spread out evenly between all 3 lines - Vinny, Sam Tim, Sean, and Rob all had 2 goals. Keith Nelson, Brendan Salz and Joe Cangro all had a goal. Picking 3 stars our of this game is almost impossible but here's a try
3. Kevin Searing - assist, solid in D-Zone
2. Vinny Budano - Set the early tone with goal
1. Brendan Salz - simply for his pre game statement - "I stopped giving blow jobs on game day"
16 Goals?
December 15, 2008
The Bruisers scored twice the goals saturday night then the Giants scored points Sunday vs. the Giants. Not so good for the hapless G-men but good for the Bruisers. After giving up a gial 8 seconds into the game - the Bruisers dominated in a fun game to watch, play in, and be a part of - unless you are a goalie. Three Bruisers scored a hat trick - 11 players had multiple points in the game. Dan Mahoney scored - Goon had 2 points yes thats no misprint - and good times were had by all. The three stars of the game were;
3. Keith Nelson 2 goals 2 assists
2. Dan Mahoney - 1 goal and 1 assist
1. Anthony Goon McEniry - first multiple point game in career - caused havoc in front of the net.
Unsung Hero - Kevin Searing - 2 assists solid defensive play
Bruiser Cruisin"
December 12, 2008
How else would the Bruisers win a game? Once again the two time defending Champs used a late goal in the third period to fend off another team. The win was their third straight 1 goal win. The team has shown that they can win different styles of games - in the previous seasons they blew teams away by 6-8 goals but have the tougness to win close games too. Sean Kenney netted a hat trick including the game winner with 5:36 to play. Other goal scorers were Rob Del Muro Jr. Brendan Salz and Sam Tim Grossmann. Mike Vecchi and Joe Cangro each had 2 assists while anchoring solid defensive play on the blue line. John O'Brien made up for a defensive lapse that led to the Rats tying the game by making a nice move on the blueline before setting up Kenney's game winner. Scotty Berge made 21 saves for the win. Special thanks goes out to Matt Brousseau for taping the game. The Coveted yet always controversial 3 stars of the game were:
3. The Pairing of Cangro/Vecchi on the Blue line - 4 combined points, blocked many shots to preserve the win
2. Brendan Salz - goal and assist
1. Sean Kenney - Hat trick, GWG
Unsung Hero of the game - John O'Brien - showed poise in setting up gwg and mental strength after defensive miscue
Bruisers Come Back to Win
December 2, 2008
The Vipers once again got off to a 4-1 lead just 2 minutes into the 2nd period. But the Bruisers didnt panic - and were able to pull out an exciting 5-4 overtime win. After a Rob Del Muro Jr. goal opened the scoring - the returning defenseman Matt rubin was able to score a goal down 4-1 to get the rally going then - Down by 2 with under 5 and a half minutes to play Sam Tim Grossman found Sean Kenney for a goal to make the game 4-3. Then with 1:12 left in regulation Keith Nelson and Sean Kenney set up Grossman for the game tying goal. The game would go to overtime and with just 1:16 left Brendan Salz spurned a 2 on 1 by hitting Vinny Budano with a breakout pass - budano then found Del Muro Jr. who spun and backhanded a shot by the Vipers goalie for the win. The Bruisers are now 5-1 and share first place with SFC - the next game is against the Rats a team in the 30+ division. The three stars of the game were
3. Matt Rubin - Goal, Assist in comeback
2. Keith Nelson - 2 Assists - set up game tying goal late in third
1. Rob Del Muro Jr - 2 goals including game winner in OT
Bruisers Back in First Place
November 22, 2008
No Scotty Berge - no problem - Vinny Budano shrugged off 3 first period goals and shut out SFC for the final two for his first win in goal this season. Budano saved 20 of 23 shots including the final 16. Sean Kenney and Jimmy ketterrer were the whole Bruisers offense in their 6-3 win. The win puts the Bruisers at 4-1 and tied with SFC for the top spot in the division. Next up for the Bruisers - Razensons VIpers - the three stars of the game were:
3. Sean Kenney - 2 goals, 1 assist

BRUISERS WIN TIGHT GAME
November 14, 2008
******AFTER READING PLEASE VIEW GUESTBOOK FOR THE NEW MOVIE POSTER FEATURING DAN MAHONEY*********
The Bruisers had Razensons Vipers right where they wanted them - In a tight game in the final minutes - and like they normally do they found a way to win. Tied at two in the final 6 minutes the 2 time defending champions got goals from Sam Tim Grossmann and Sean Kenney to pull out a 4-2 win improving to 3 and 1 on the season. The game came with many ups and downs - The team got off to a 2-0 lead on goals by Vinny Budano and Matt Brousseau - although the celebration in Brousseaus goal led to a dislocated shoulder keeping him out of work and off the bruisers active roster for 4-6 weeks. "I saw that i had a good shot on net and i saw Mahoney almost maybe open, instead of passing i shot and it waent in - i guess if i passed it to him i wouldnt have gotten attacked" said Brousseau after getting released from a local hospital. The three stars of the game were
3. Matt Brousseau - Goal, has done a steller job centering a line with Mahoney and Anzalone
2. Scotty Berge - Gave up only 2 goals on 22 shots - won third straight game
1. Sean Kenney - 1 goal 3 assists - had a hand in every goal

October 30, 2008
In a wild second game of the Fall 08 season the Bruisers who have established themselves as a third period team might have had their finest comeback ever. Down by 2 goals with less than 4 minutes left and after losing 3 players to a game misconduct the 2 time defending champs rose to the occasion to win 5-4. Keith Nelson started the comeback with a Power play goal - he won the faceoff to him self then roofed the shot to bring the Bruisers to with in 1 with 3:53 to play. Then Tim Grossmans hard work led to Sean Kenney from the corner finding a streaking Rob Del Muro Jr. who one timed the pass into the net - with 1:03 left we were tied at 4. Then with just 30 seconds left Matt Brousseau lifted the puck out of the defensive zone and Sam Tim beat the aggressive goalie to the puck and put the puck into the empty net for the game winner. BRUISERS ARE CHAMPS...AGAIN
September 15, 2008
They didn't even think they would have a chance to defend their Spring Season championship. Then Applebees happened. On the eve of the beginning of the Summer season Scotty Berge, Rob Del Muro Jr Anthony Anzalone and Keith Nelson had a meeting and decided at the last second to play and move up to a higher division even though some key members would not be able to play. Well after going 4-4 in the regular season the Bruisers ran the table as the last seed and won the D division championship tonight by beating the Swordfish in a tight game. The first period was scoreless. In the second Del Muro Jr. gave the Bruisers a 1-0 lead taking a pass from Jimmy Ketterer on the power play and put it home. After the Swordfish answered with 2 straight goals ketterrer put the puck in the net to set up a tied game going into the third. Less than 2 minutes left - Bruisers on the powerplay - the puck behind the net where Del Muro picked it up and banked the puck off the goalies leg into the net with just 1:33 left in regulation. Sean Kenney added the empty netter to clinch the second straight HLI championship for the team. Goalie John Jew made 18 saves on 20 shots for his 3rd straight playoff win. "I didnt even think we were going to play but to move up a division and win the title says so much about our talent" said Del Muro, "We made some key changes like putting Cangro on Defense that made us as good as possible and anytime you have a guy Like Sean Kenney on the team we have a chance to win, and I cant say enough about the goaltending we got"
The Three stars of the championship game were:
3. John Jew Goalie 18 saves
