November 7th is the time to Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries!
November 7th is the time to Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries! After enjoying the brisk cool Fall-like weather, remember to set your clocks back one hour on November 6th before you go to bed. But wait, don't forget to change your batteries in your smoke alarm or CO2 alarms! It is a good rule of thumb to test your alarms once a month and change the batteries every 6 months (when time changes) or AS NEEDED, depending on the life of the battery! If you are in need of a fire alarm or need someone to install it for you, contact Station 6 and someone would be glad to come out and help you! (301) 447-2728
Congratulations Elyssa Cool - Crowned MSFA Miss Fire Prevention
June 14, 2010 Crowned 2010-2011 MSFA Miss Fire Prevention Queen at the Maryland State Fireman's Convention in Ocean City, MD!

Once again, members are reminded to have report cards into your advisors for the 3rd term! There are several that have not handed these in, if you are one of them, get them in ASAP (Tuesday, May 18th is the extended deadline)! Muster training will be starting soon and if report cards are not in and up to date, you WILL NOT be a part of this event or any other event coming up (SPRING FLING!!!) UNTIL advisors have report cards IN HAND. You need to be responsible and do your part! If there is a problem, please see an advisor!
Coke Sales Brought in Profit!
Thank You to all that supported the Explorer Post in their Coca-Cola Sales Fundraiser. The group made a fairly good profit to be able to use for group functions and training. Good job team!

March 14th is the time to Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries!
March 14th is the time to Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries! After enjoying the Spring-like weather, remember to set your clocks forward one hour on March 13th before you go to bed. But wait, don't forget to change your batteries in your smoke alarm or CO2 alarms! It is a good rule of thumb to test your alarms once a month and change the batteries every 6 months (when time changes) or AS NEEDED, depending on the life of the battery! If you are in need of a fire alarm or need someone to install it for you, contact Station 6 (or your local fire station) and someone would be glad to come out and help you! (301) 447-2728
ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS!!
REMEMBER REPORT CARDS ARE DUE!!!!!!! Frederick County Public Schools distributed report cards before it snowed (Feb. 3), other schools have also distributed by this time!! Report cards are due no later than March 9th!
If report cards are not handed in by this date, advisors will have no choice, but to suspend all Jr. Explorer privileges to the member until the report card is handed in! This includes coming to the station for ANY reason, unless otherwise permitted! This is a policy set into action by the Exploring for Life Organization and it needs to be taken seriously! Your schooling and grades are extremely important! If members are having problems in school, advisors are more than happy to assist in any way possible (if they can), please don't hesitate to ask!
If a member falls below a "C" AVERAGE on their report card, all Jr. Explorer privileges are suspended to the member until proof of improvement is shown to the advisors in the form of a progress report or written note by a teacher, guidance counselor, principal or if the parent states that grades are improving. Any questions or concerns, please see an advisor!

Jr. Explorers Compete in Annual Fire Muster
The Jr. Explorers competed in their annual fire muster on Sunday, November 7, 2009. The team included Elyssa Cool, Nic Stoner, John Javor and Angela Javor. The team has been training for this event all year and have been training extensively throughout the past couple of months. The Fire Muster includes several competitions to include Search & Rescue, Make & Break, CPR & Movement, SCBA & Gear and Ladder Raise. There were over 100 people present at the Muster to include several volunteers helping judge and run the competitions.

The Jr. Explorers came out on top with 2 wins. They received 1st place in the Make & Break competition and 2nd place in the Search & Rescue competition. There were two Jr. Investigators present at the Muster; Landon Hollinger and Ian Orndorff. Ian & Landon along with Timmy Eckenrode have been training all year with the Jr. Explorers. Ian & Landon were busy practicing their room search skills on Sunday as they spent alot of their time searching through the Dark Maze provided by the MFRI training institute. The maze is a portable training facility for firefighters to crawl through and practice their room search skills. This maze simulates a dark, smoky burning building that may have confined spaces. Many Explorer post members from all over came to the Muster on Sunday and they all seemed to enjoy the Maze trailor.

The Jr. Explorers would like to thank Frank and Jean Javor for their help and support of the Muster events. Frank and Jean were supporting the Explorers in their event while the advisors, Penny, Dave & Jane were running and judging events. Frank and Jean were also recording the days events by taking pictures throughout the day. Other people that played a vital role in the days events were Cliff Shriner and Frank Davis; Cliff drove the fire engine to the Muster and Frank Davis took the engine home to the station when the Muster was finished. The Explorers want to thank Cliff and Frank for taking time out of their day to do this. There were many other members of Co. 6 that helped the Explorers with their training throughout the year as well as some of the paid folks at Co. 26. To those that helped this year, you are appreciated and we thank you very much! CONGRATS TEAM!!!
FIRE MUSTER TRAINING
Be sure you are checking the website calendar below or use the calendar tab to keep up on the upcoming drills and training sessions for the Muster! It is coming quickly and training and practice is essential. Expect to have longer time alotments at the station for training until the Muster is over!
