GO TO THE CALENDAR FOR DETAILS ON ACTIVITY IN THE COMING WEEKS.
Welcome to the official web site of the Wayne Wolverines Prep Legion Team. The Wolverines, established in 2005, is a 13-year-old Prep Legion team that plays in the Delmont Prep Legion League. Our boundaries for Prep Legion include all of Radnor Township and census tracts 2049, 2050, 2051 and about half of 2052 of Lower Merion. The Prep Legion program is designed to give serious 13-year-old baseball players top level travel baseball competition against other teams in the Delmont League and beyond. Our home fields include all three fields at Radnor High School and Odorisio Park on West Wayne Ave.
The Wayne Wolverines are the entry level team for the Wayne American Legion Program which features the Wayne Junior Legion Wolverines (2011 & 2010 Main Line Champs) and a Wayne Senior Legion team (2011 & 2010 Main Line Champs).
Our game season begins with pre-season games in May. We will also play some non-league games on off-nights during the regular season. We'll play in the prestigious Conestoga Memorial Weekend Prep Legion tournament. Practices will start no more than a week after the last tryout (mid-April).
We open the Delmont regular season with a game on 5/31, then we will play all Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and a few Thursdays through 7/14. Our league consists of teams from Narberth, Haverford, Wissahickon, Valley Forge, Springfield, Aston-Media, Conestoga, Roxborough, Whitemarsh, East/West Norriton and Nether Providence (Swarthmore).
The Wayne Wolverine Prep team is seeking non-league games against other Prep Legion and 13U teams for the 2012 season. Contact Bill Moore for more information (wmoore216@comcast.net).
Wayne American Legion Philosophy
The Wayne Legion Baseball Team operates under the primary goal of competing as successfully as possible. For our individual athlete, this means that success in competition in most cases, takes precedence over participation. This is so that all of our athletes can see the fruits of hard work, commitment and dedication. Play-time is determined by the athlete's inherent ability, mental and physical commitments and his compassionate aim or capacity to fulfill team responsibilities.
It is the goal of the Legion coaches to choose the Wolverines Prep team by by April 15. Once chosen, the team will work out and play non-league games on the weekend until school baseball has concluded. There is a double elimination playoff after the conclusion of the season. The champions of the playoffs plus the champions of the regular season will advance to one of four Eastern PA Regionals tournament sites.
It is the philosophy of the Wayne Legion program to field as competitive of a team as possible. This means that the majority of the playing time will be given to the players that demonstrate the strongest ability and dedication to the team. For league games, this means that the team will put the players on the field that the coaching staff believes gives Wayne the best chance to win the game. In non-league games, however, more emphasis will be placed on player development while still maintaining a competitive team. Players will be evaluated at the tryouts not only by the coaches, but also by an independent group that includes ex-players and the Senior Legion coaching staff. I can assure you that the evaluators will do their best to choose the best possible team; family friendships or school affiliations are non-factors in the process. Practices and games are mandatory. Excused absences include illness and school functions and major family events such as graduations and weddings, along with some AAU baseball commitments, but little else. If you miss a practice or game, playing time will be affected. Thanks in advance for your commitment.
