League Information
Welcome to the official website for West Covina Youth Basketball League (WCYBL). WCYBL operates in a business-oriented manner and is endorsed by the Internal Revenue Service under the Deparment of the Treasury as a public charity 509(a)(2). With a group of experienced and dedicate volunteers, our dedication is for the sole purpose of instruction and competition through basketball. With the use of facilities approved by the Community Services Division and the and the West Covina Unified School District, West Covina Youth Basketball League (WCYBL) has been able to remain a highly visible and a much-talked about youth sports organization in the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire.
The league is comprised of five co-ed divisions based on age as of March 1st of the registration year. For example, if you were 10 as of March 1, 2008, then you would register in September or October to play in the ten year old division.
Practices are held at Edgewood Middle School(EMS) and West Covina High School(WCHS) on the outdoor courts. Most games will be played indoors on the weekends at the Cameron Park Community Center (CPCC), with alternate indoor sites being WCHS or EMS. Practices begin in November and games begin in January, with the season concluding in March.
As of 1999, the Board of Directors decided to be one of the first independent leagues to require all board members, coaches, asst. coaches, and team managers to be fingerprinted. The establishment full service background check providers, many industries and government agencies are now able to flush out sexual predators. Now that more non-profit organizations require their volunteers to be fingerprinted, the prices are considerably reduced for community volunteers. If you are chosen to be apart of a coaching staff, personal information is kept confidential and cannot be transferred to and from organizations. Current law enforcement officers with valid proof are exempt from this process.
As a member of the West Covina Youth Sports Council, we must meet annual participation guidelines, and submit league documents including our Standing Rules, Bylaws, financial statements, and team rosters to ensure the quality of the program. We will do our best to maintain a level of professionalism, comfort, and safety at all times. We are continue to promote former student-athletes and assist them with community service hours and employ them during the regular season. Our website information is being updated so we thank you, in advance for your patience. We ask for your support by following the rules and guidelines as we volunteer to make the upcoming season rewarding for everyone.
Thank You,
Your 2008-2009 Board of Directors
