West Durham Players Perform Well at Midget All-Star Game
September 1, 2010 – 07:00 PM —
Rock Goalie Matthew Law ran the length of the floor to score a goal in the Midget All-Star game last night in Bowmanville. Using a players stick borrowed from John St. John and some shuddy defense from the opposing teams Kenzie Smith, Matty was able to make his way to the net and fire home a five hole beauty! Congrats Matt on your first All-Star goal.
Christian Bentley was a two goal performer, one on a breakaway pass from St. John who was playing on the opposing team! John's teammate Tyler Roche somehow 'lost' his man on the play and Bentley was off to the races in a one man race! Bentley later added his Hat Trick goal while playing as a call-up in the Intermediate All-Star Game. No more Defense only for this young man!
Rochie had numerous opportunities to score, we lost count at his jersey number 9 although it might have been closer to his Rock jersey number 20 but his arsenal of trick shots couldn't find the back of the net but it wasn't from lack of trying, and sure was a joy to watch as the crowd got to the point where they were wondering what he was going to do next! He did however take the only penalty of the game (aka Wendal Clark back in the days during an NHL All-Star game) but I thought the kid ducked! LOL
Johnny and Kenzie were able to find the oppositions net as well and they both also had a few 'helpers' but it was more fun seeing them with Rochie trying to outdo each other with trick shots, between the legs, behind the back, around the world's, shovel shots, you name it they tried it. I think I even saw Christian try a backhand. They showed everyone what the All-Star game should be about.....FUN, they had lots of it that's for sure.
Matty after letting his Rock teammate Smith score, shut the door and became the wall we were so accustomed to during Qualifiers and Sudbury and as mentioned his goal was a thing of beauty captured on film by dad Adam (thanks BTW for the above picture), you can watch it on Youtube by typing in 'West Durham Rock goalie buries one at All-Star Game'. We thought he was going to take the gear off during his post goal celebration but alast that only happens in Sudbury!
All and all a fun night for the 5 representatives of West Durham, they represented the Rock very well, they definately enjoyed themselves and we congratulate them!!!!!
