Message from Jim Winder
How I decide whom I will vote to be an all star.
1. Attitude of player. Is he a team player, cheers on other players if he is not a starter. A player must accept his role on a team. There is no mandatory play in tournament play.
2. Defensive skills. I ask managers what other position players play. I can not vote for 5 catchers and have no outfielders on the team.
3. Pitching. Defense and Pitching wins games.
4. Offensive Stats. Batting average is only part of what I look at. Averages are misleading, some players hit well on average pitching but not against good pitching, I look at strikeouts, on base percentage, runs scored and rbis. I look at speed of players.
5. At no time do I look where a player played Little League. Once a player signs up for West End he is no longer part of little league.
6. A player who was on one of our all star teams last year has to prove to me he is still one of the top 15 players. I vote for who I believe are the best players.
How are all stars selected:
Managers from each team will nominate players from their teams players he thinks should be considered for all stars. He will talk about each player why they should be considered. Once all players are nominated, our scorekeepers can nominate any player he thinks were missed. a secret ballot vote is than held with the managers and scorekeepers each receiving a vote. The 13 highest vote getters make the team. The manager is than voted on by the same process. Once the manager is selected, he may add 2 more players to the team from those nominated.

Middle Atlantic Region Babe Ruth Hall of Famers
JIM and BONNIE WINDER
Inducted into MAR Hall of Fame
WILLIAMSPORT, PA …The Middle Atlantic Region of Babe Ruth Baseball honored two of its finest volunteers recently at Logue Field in the West End Babe Ruth Complex. Between games of the 14 Year-Old Middle Atlantic Region Tournament, Jim and Bonnie Winder were inducted as the newest members of the Babe Ruth League Middle Atlantic Region Hall of Fame. They are the first husband and wife team to enter the Hall.
The Winders are each completing their 34th year of service to the youth of the area. Over the years, the Winders have served in various capacities; President, Secretary, Treasurer, Manager, Coach, Scorekeeper, Refreshment Stand, fundraising, etc. Said Ron Zimmerman, Pennsylvania State Commissioner, “Their dedication is unparalleled."
Jim Winder has served as League President for the West End Babe Ruth League for 27 years. For the last 15 years, has also served as Babe Ruth League Pennsylvania District Commissioner for the area. Among multiple other responsibilities, Bonnie Winder has served as Secretary and Treasurer for the organization and can be seen almost daily in the Concession Stand and coordinating the efforts of various volunteers. Under their guidance, West End Babe Ruth League has hosted many very successful Babe Ruth League Tournaments, including District, State, and Regional Tournaments. This includes the 2014 Middle Atlantic Region 14 Year-Old Tournament this year.
In 2003, the Winders were inducted into the Babe Ruth League Pennsylvania State Hall of Fame.
A BIG Thank You goes out to Jim and Bonnie Winder for their tireless commitment to the league. From the organizing of the league year to year, concession stand, and field preparation, to the weather, and the state/regional tournaments held each year, your efforts are greatly appreciated. West End has 2 of the most amazing people running it! We are truly blessed to have Jim and Bonnie Winder!
