Football and Cheer Parents, Sponsors & Community Members,

West Boca Tackle Football League (WBTFL), also known as the West Boca Dragons are undergoing some exciting changes! The board has been busy planning this offseason to make your child’s football or cheerleading experience better than it has ever been.

First, please check out our new website at www.WestBocaTackleFootball.com

Early registration opens on February 28th:

Next, we are in the process of rebranding ourselves as the West Boca Tackle Football League (WBTFL).  While we will continue to use the Dragons for our tournament teams, all regular season teams will no longer be “The Orange Dragons, The Black Dragons, The Red Dragons, etc”.  We are still a community based league only, we won’t all have the same team names.  We will be branding our division teams with collegiate and NFL teams.

Finally, the biggest announcement is the introduction of weight classes to all divisions.  We understand this will eliminate some, but the doors it opens for our league are indispensable.  We will actively become a part of the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA), not only during tournament time but all season.  After much feedback about safety in the sport, this alignment with the other leagues will allow us to adhere to strict age/weight guidelines.  No more of the competing leagues playing whoever they want at any weight.  This will also allow us to have children play their natural positions come tournament time instead of realigning positions with players who make weight. Also, it will allow our league to become more competitive playing with such diverse teams.

There will be weigh-ins and a team roster book check before every game to guarantee the rules are being adhered to.

The other OBYFA leagues we will be playing are Western Communities Football League in Wellington and West Boynton Football League.  Each league had between 6-10 teams per division, allowing plenty of competition against different teams. Chances are, the only time we would see the same team is in a playoff scenario.

Our director of football, Todd Deering, is working with Head Coach Junior Moran of West Boca High School to host the Spring Break Football Camp. www.moranskillsanddrills.com.  This is a great week of fun and learning for the kids.  Last year, NFL stars Giovani Bernard of the Cincinnati Bengals and Travis Daniels from the Miami Dolphins came out and worked with the kids. There were also numerous division 1 and former division 1 players that stopped by throughout the week.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the West Boca Tackle Football League.  There will be skills and conditioning sessions scheduled in late spring/early summer.  We will update the website and send out e-mails as we approach the clinics.

Check out our new website, register early and save a few dollars.  Come enjoy the various camps and clinics we are a part of! Get ready for conditioning camp at the end of July.  Be ready for some competitive football come season!

See you on the field.

THE ORANGE BOWL YOUTH FOOTBALL ALLIANCE

In its 15th year in 2015, the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (OBYFA) has served as the name and face of South Florida youth football. The organization, its outreach to athletics and cheerleading, and its commitment to support youth across the region have not changed – only its name. In 2007, O.B. Youth Sports LLC officially renamed the program "Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance."

The OBYFA completed its tenth season in 2008 with a then record-high eight member leagues spread out across eight South Florida counties, including Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, Martin, and St. Lucie on Florida’s southeast coast; Collier and Lee on the southwest coast.

The Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance is comprised of four long-time member leagues: Key West Junior Football League, Miami Xtreme Youth Football League (MXYFL), Glades Tri-City Youth Athletic League and Western Communities Football League (WCFL), along with five new members since 2006 – the Dick Conley Youth Football League, the National Youth Football League of America (NYFL), the Palm Beach Youth Football League (PBCYFL), the West Boca Tackle Football League and West Boynton Youth Football League (WBFL).

The goal of Orange Bowl Youth Football has not changed since its inception in 1999 – to promote and support the growth of youth football and cheerleading in South Florida. That was clearly demonstrated by its expansion to include a record nine leagues and eight counties in the Alliance. For its part, the OBYFA provided its teams and parks $325,000 in direct financial contributions and grants for the 2009 season.

Keep up with the OBYFA at www.orangebowl.org the official website of the Orange Bowl Committee.
