CHAMPIONS

WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U - 2010 OFF THE BENCH SPORTS 11U DIVISION CHAMPIONS.
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS defeated Vernon 6-3 in the championship game avenging an earlier loss 4-2 to Vernon, In a fantastic game the WARHAWKS outplayed the team from Vernon in every way. Warhawk pitching was outstanding, hitting was excellent against a set of tough pitchers from Vernon and the defense was solid. All three components made it real difficult for the team from Vernon. The WARHAWKS jumped out to an early lead in the first with Matt Rizza reaching base by a walk, Robert Safer getting him over to second and Jimmy "RBI" Rauth driving in the run with a single. Vernon tied it in the second with a run and the game stayed tied 1-1 until the top of the 5th inning. In the 5th the WARHAWKS came alive! James "T-REX" Morrell beat out an infield hit to lead it off. Cal Egan, Matt Rizza and Robert Safer drew walks against the hard throwing Vernon pitcher scoring 1 run and leaving the bases loaded for "The POMS". Bobby Pombo busted the game wide open with a base clearing double and then scored on a wild throw back to second. After the fireworks, the WARHAWKS, built themselves a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. Vernon, was able to put 2 runs on the board but never really threatened the WARHAWK lead. The game ended on a Cal Egan strikeout and the WARHAWKS met at the mound in celebration.
Great defensive play were made by Jonny "SHOELESS" Safer and Michael Claudio in the fifth to quite the Vernon rally. Matt Torregrossa made fnatastic plays at third base and the WARHAWKS received great defense behind the plate from Conor Moriarty-Jones and Joe Soreco and in the field from Kyle Pelissier and Jeffery Welch.
Warhawk pitching remained stubborn in the championship game. Bobby Pombo and Calvin Egan shut down the top seeded team in the playoffs by only letting up 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. Throughout the playoffs the Pombo-Egan tandem struck out 36 batters in 54 possible outs!
Together the WARHAWKS played so well in many aspects throughout the whole season but the true mark of the team was their character, conduct and respect. The WARHAWKS truly represented West Milford with class.
WARHAWKS BEAT LONG VALLEY 4-2

The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U defeated Long Valley in the semi-finals of the Off The Bench Sports Baseball League 4-2 and advance to the Championship game in Vernon on Sat. October 23rd, 2010.
The WARHAWKS beat Long Valley in their traditional style. Great pitching combined with a solid defense and timely hitting proved through again for the championship bound WARHAWKS.
Bobby Pombo and Calvin Egan, AGAIN, shut down the opposing team with unbelievable pitching. Combined they threw a 2 hitter (giving up 1 hit each) and only let up two runs. Out of a possible 18 outs, 12 were recorded by strikeout (6 for each pitcher) and each pitcher only gave up 1 run.
James Morrell and Calvin Egan led the hit parade. Each batter recorded 2 hits and both had a double. Jimmy "RBI" Rauth drove in two runs on 1 hit, Bobby Pombo and Matt Torregrossa had hits as well and drove in RBI's. Both Catchers, Conor Moriarty-Jones and Joe Soreco both added hits to the 10 hits for the WARHAWKS in the game.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Michael Claudio started off the 2 run bottom with a single and run scored. which proved to be the winning run.
Contributing to the solid defense was Robert Safer, Jeffery "LUMBER" Welch and Kyle Pelissier.

WM WARHAWKS 11U DEFEAT DENVILLE 3-1 IN PLAYOFFS
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U beat Denville 3-1 in the first round of the Off The Bench Sports playoffs. The 2nd seeded WARHAWKS topped the 7th seeded team from Denville in a classic pitchers duel. Altough the WARHAWK bats were quite they were able to put 2 runs on the board in the first inning and followed in the second inning with 1. It was all the WARHAWKS needed to get the victory. Denville never really threatened but did score a manufactured run in the third.
The WARHAWKS only had four hits on the day. Matt Rizza provided 2 of the WARHAWKS 4 hits and scored a run. Jimmy Rauth and Kyle Pelissier each had hits totaling the four hits. Robert Safer and Michael "Smiley" Claudio both scored runs from walks.
Pitching for the WARHAWKS were Bobby Pombo and Calvin Egan. The "POMS" pitched 3 innings only giving up 2 hits and 1 run, he divlivered 6 K's and 3 walks earning the win. Calvin Egan pitched three innings with 3 hits and 7 strikeouts. In total the combined pitching efforts only let up 1 run on 5 hits and combined for 13 K's out of a possible 18 outs.
Catcher, Conor Moriarty-Jones, had an incredible day behind the plate and held the Denville team to only 2 stolen bases. The defensive aspect was without error. The WARHAWKS had great defense provided by Jonny "SHOELESS" Safer, James Morrell, Jeff Welch and Matt Torregrossa.
The WARHAWKS advance to the semifinals of the playoffs and face the team from Long Valley tomorrow Sunday Oct. 17 at Munson Field.
WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS DOWN GREAT MEADOWS 22-1
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U defeated the team from Great Meadows 22-1 in their final regular season game. The WARHAWKS improve their record to 7-2 for the season and are in the playoffs as the second seed.
A NO HITTER was dealt by great pitching from Robert Safer, Jeffrey Welch, Kyle Pelissier, Matt Torregrossa and Michael Claudio. Each pitcher went one inning and Smiley Claudio pitched two. All of the WARHAWK pitches combined only let up 1 run off of 7 walks and 5 K's. A No HITTER is a first in the WARHAWKS 5 year history.
The WARHAWKS bats were in high gear driving in 22 runs on 23 hits , 7 walks and stole 11 bases.
James Morrell (4 for 4) and Bobby Pombo (3 for 4) each had RBI triples, combined they scored 6 times and drove in 6 RBI's. Calvin Egan also went (3 for 4) driving in 6 RBI's of his own. Nick Suszowski had three big hits and Joe Soreco added two iof his own. Matt Torregrossa's bat was alive hitting 3 for 3 and driving in 2 RBI's and Jimmy Rauth added an RBI on 1 hit. Every WARHAWK had a hit and 10 hitters scored and had an RBI. A well balanced team effort from the WARHAWKS to end their regular season.
The WARHAWKS have the second seed in the Off The Bench Sports Travel Baseball League 11U Division. They face the team from Denville on Sat. Oct. 16th.

WARHAWKS EDGED OUT BY VERNON 4-2
In a battle of the top two teams, in the 11U off the bench sports league, the WARHAWKS 11U were edged out by a score of 4-2. The Vernon team, with a record of 7-1, came back from a 2-0 WARHAWK lead scoring 3 runs in the third inning and 1 in the 4th. The WARHAWKS had opportunities but were unable to score in the late innings.
The WARHAWKS, jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and had many chances to score later in the game but were unsuccessful. Pitching and solid defenses were had by both teams.
The WARHAWK pitchers, Joe Soreco and Bobby Pombo, did outstanding only letting up 4 runs on 9 hits and only 1 walk and combined had 11 strikeouts. The second part of the battery was Conor Moriarty-Jones who again provided great defense behind the plate.
Robert Safer, Calvin Egan, Jimmy Rauth, Matt Torregrossa and Joe Soreco (2) all had hits in the game. James Morrell (2) and Jeffery Welch both reached base by walks and Kyle Pelissier and Michael Claudio both had great at bats.
WARHAWKS 11U ROMP DENVILLE 14-4
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U defeated the team from Denville 14-4 in 5 innings. The team from Denville (4-3) was no match for the powerful WARHAWKS 11U team. The WARHAWKS jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first and never looked back. They added 6 runs in the 3rd inning and 2 runs each in the 4th and 5th innngs amassing a hugh 14-4 victory over Denville.
The WARHAWKS had 15 hits led by Joe Soreco with 4 hits in 4 at bats and 6 RBI''s. Bobby Pombo went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI''s, Nick Suszowski, Calvin Egan and Jimmy Rauth all had two hits and James Morrell and Matt Torregrossa each added a hit as well. Kyle Pelissier reached base on a walk and scored.
Pitching was on again for the WARHAWKS. Calvin Egan pitched 3 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. James Morrell pitched 2 innings with 3 hits/2 walks and 2 K''s giving up 1 run and Conor Moriarty -Jones, finished it off for the Deville team, giving up 1 run, 1 hit and K''ed 3 batters to earn the save.
WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS EDGE SPARTA 4-3
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS increase their record to 5-1 with a 4-3 win over the 4-2 team from Sparta. Sparta jumped out to an 2-0 lead early in the game and the warhawks scored 4 unanswered runs, in the fourth inning, to take the victory.
The WARHAWKS pitching was outstanding giving up only 3 hits in 6 innings. Calvin Egan pitched 3 innings letting up 2 runs on 2 hits/3 walks and four K's earning the win. Bobby Pombo came in the fourth and shut the door for the WARHAWKS stiking out five batters and only giving up 1 hit.
Matt Rizza, Matt Torregrossa, Jimmy Rauth and Bobby Pombo all earned base hits and scored for the WARHAWKS in the fourth.
Great defense was provided by Robert Safer, Kyle Pellisier, James Morrell, Jonathan Safer, Michael Claudio and Matt Rizza. Conor Moriarty-Jones caught a fantastic game and in part held the opposing base runners to one steal and threw a runner out at second.
The WARHAWKS (5-1) play Denville (4-2) Sat. Oct 9th 7pm in Denville.
ANDOVER (AGX) DEFEAT WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 7-1

The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U lost their first game to the AGX team from Andover 7-1. The WARHAWKS could not get the bats going in route to their first defeat of the 2010 fall season. The Andover pitchers had the WARHAWKS off balance throughout the whole game. They had amassed 16 stikeouts and only let up 3 hits. One bright spot was from Matt Rizza with 2 hits in three at bats and from Matt Torregrossa with one hit driving in the only RBI.
The WARHAWKS had solid infielding from Jimmy Rauth 1B, James Morrell 2B, Calvin Egan SS, Matt Torregrossa 3B, and the outfield comprised of Kyle Pellisier LF, Matt Rizza CF and Michael Claudio in RF.
Conor Moriarty-Jones and Bobby Pombo both pitched three innings each.
A tough loss for the WARHAWKS but they will be back!!!!! Next opponent, the 5-1 team from SPARTA.
WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U POUND VERONA 14-7

The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS 11U beat the team from Verona 14-7 and increased their record to 4-0. The West Milford Bats were alive and every player had a hit for the WARHAWKS! Jimmy Rauth had 2 hits (1 Home Run) and drove in 4 runs. Matt Torregrossa and Bobby Pombo each drove in three runs (both with two hits). James Morrell, Michael Claudio, and Kyle Pelissier all had RBI doubles. Matt Rizza and Jeffery Welch both had RBI singles and added stolen bases to their stats for the day. Conor " LEGS" Moriarty-Jones had 2 hits and stole his second base of the year. James Morrell pitched three innings letting up 4 runs on 6 hits, 4 K's and earned the win. Bobby Pombo pitched the following 3 innings striking out 6 batters giving up 3 runs on 2 hits. Great pitching and hitting were the ingredients for another win for the WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS. WARHAWKS DEFEAT LONG VALLEY 11-1
The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS beat the team from Long Valley with Great hitting and Pitching. The WARHAWKS started the first inning with two runs driven in by Jimmy Rauth's double, scoring Robert Safer and Matt Rizza (both drew walks). They then scored 4 runs in the third, Kyle Pelissier and Walked, Robert Safer hit a double and Bobby Pombo and Jimmy Rauth both drove in runs. In the fourth inning the gates opened and for the first time ever the WARHAWKS had a walk-off GRAND SLAM. Michael Claudio started off with a double Jonny "Swinging Safer" drew a walk, Kyle Pelissier had his 2nd walk for the day, Robert Safer and Matt Rizza drew walks leaving bases loaded for Bobby Pombo who lined a single, scoring a run and then Jimmy Rauth ended it with a granny.
Matt Torregrossa had a single Jeffery Welch with great cuts at the plate played a solid left field and Conor "LEGS" Moriarty-Jones had a walk and a STOLEN BASE and caught a great game.
Bobby Pombo pitched three scorless innings striking out 7 batters for the win and James Morrell finished it up with a save. The Long Valley team only had two hits and 1 run scored in 4 innings.
Great Game to the WARHAWKS who are now 3-0 and face the team from VERONA on Sat night at Howard field.
WARHAWKS TOP MOUNT OLIVE 13-1
West Milford WARHAWKS defeated the Mount Olive team by a score of 13-1 in 5 innings.
Calvin Egan drove in the first run of the game (Matty RIZZA), to start the game, and the hits and runs kept on coming. Conor Moriarty Jones had a big hit in the fourth to drive in 3 runs and LUMBER Welch also had a great hit to right center driving in 2 runs. Jimmy Rauth went 3-3 with 2 runs scored and Kyle Pelissier reached base twice (HBP ...OOOUCH) and scored. Jonathan "Swingin Shoeless" Safer again hit the ball all day long had an RBI and a run scored. Matt Torregrossa had a hard hit triple, Robert Safer and Mike Claudio both reached base twice and scored.
Bobby Pombo "in SWINGIN SAFERS SHOES" pitched a great three innings, striking out 5 and letting up 1 un-earned run. Cal Egan pitched 1 inning of scoreless baseball striking out 2 and Robert Safer (picking up the save) K' ed 1 and had an unassisted out to end the game.
The WARHAWKS now 2-0 face Long Valley on Thursday Sept 23rd.
WARHAWKS WIN OPENER AGAINST GREAT MEADOWS

The WEST MILFORD WARHAWKS defeated the Great Meadows team 17 -3 in its opening game of the OFF THE BENCH SPORTS 11U Fall league.
Great pitching by Jimmy Rauth, James Morrell, Robert Safer and Conor Moriarty -Jones resulted in a no hitter!!!!! The WARHAWKS also had 4 Home Runs in the game - Matt Torregrossa, Mike Claudio, James Morrell and Jimmy Rauth.
Jonathan "swingin" Safer hit the ball all day long and had an RBI and a run scored. Kyle Pelissier and a run scored and 2 walks. Matty Rizza scored twice and reached base three times. Jeffery "LUMBER" Welch scored and reached base two times.
Every player reached base, scored and had an RBI. A true team effort. Great Job to all of the WARHAWKS!
