Little League Baseball and Softball

Dear Little League Parents and Volunteers,

On Thursday, May 3, USA Baseball informed youth organizations, including Little League, that effective immediately, the bat identified as the Easton Ghost X YBB18GX10 30/20 2 5/8" (or the "Easton Ghost X 30/20 5/8" at retail) has been decertified by USA Baseball and is no longer an approved bat under the USABat Standard. This applies to the 30-inch drop 10 variation of the Easton Ghost X only. Pursuant to Rule 1.10, this is now an illegal bat. At the time of this decertification notice, all other lengths and drops of the Easton Ghost X bat remain approved for play.

All parents, coaches, and umpires must check their bats and remove these bats from play if they are in possession of these bats.

Any questions regarding returns, refunds, or warranty claims for the Easton Ghost X 30/20 should be directed to Easton at ghostreturn@easton.com.

Please visit USABat.com/Decertified-Bats for more information.

More information on how the USABat Standard impacts Little League can be found at LittleLeague.org/BatInfo.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you all for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Patrick Wilson

IMPORTANT - Little League Bat Changes

With Fall Ball getting ready to start up, you may be considering purchasing a new bat.  If this is the case, it would be best to wait for a little bit longer.  Little League Baseball along with some other baseball organizations are adopting the USA baseball bat standard.  Starting on January 1, 2018, all bats used in Little League Baseball will need to meet the new standards and have the USA Baseball label.  Only new bats, that are supposed to start hitting stores this fall, will meet this new requirement.  Unfortunately, Little League-approved baseball bats that are approved for use for the 2017 season will no longer be acceptable for use in any Little League game or activity starting on January 1, 2018.

The link below has a video and additional information regarding the new standards and also explains how Tee Ball bats can still be used in Tee Ball divisions, as long as they are labeled Tee Ball and you add the required USA Baseball Sticker.

Click here to for more details via the Little League website.

Weather Policy Updates

The weather forecast is predicting inclement weather this weekend.  As a reminder, "If lightning is seen, thunder is heard, OR if the Little League Weather Bug App (Spark) shows lightning within a 10 mile radius, all teams must evacuate to a safe location.  All activities will be immediately suspended for a minimum of 30 minutes. Play may resume if lightning has not been seen for 30 minutes, thunder has not been heard for 30 minutes, and the Little League Weather Bug App (Spark) does NOT show lightning within a 10 mile radius within the last 30 minutes.  Remember, If you hear it, clear it!"

We will do our best to update the website, the weather hotline, and communicate to commissioners and coaches, but we ask everyone to monitor for the safety our players and families.

Games for MP8, Minors, Majors, and Pony may be delayed but we will make every effort to start games as close to their original starting time as possible.

For specific details on game delays and cancellations, please see below:

TBall, CP, and MP7:
  • If lightning is seen, thunder is heard, or the Little League Weather Bug App (Spark) reveals lightning is within 10 miles, game is cancelled. Vacate the Premises.
  • There are no suspensions or delays for TBall, CP, and MP7.
  • Coaches and parents are responsible for monitoring weather conditions.

MP8, Minors, Majors, and Pony:
  • If lightning is seen, thunder is heard, or the Little League Weather Bug App (Spark)  reveals lightning is within 10 miles, game is suspended/delayed for 30 minutes.  Teams must vacate field and remain in vehicles.
  • If game resumes and lightning is seen, thunder is heard, or the Little League Weather Bug App (Spark) reveals lightning is within 10 miles a second time, game is cancelled. Vacate the Premises.
  • No game will resume after a 1 hour delay has expired. The max total delay for any single game is 1 hour.
  • Umpires and coaches are responsible for monitoring weather conditions.
  • Games may be delayed but we will make every effort to start games as close to their original starting time as possible.
If the rainy weather continues, there is a possibility that all games will be cancelled.

We thank you all for your patience and flexibility and will follow up with updates regarding make-up games if necessary.

We hope everyone is having a great season!
