Boys HS concludes summer season by winning the End of the Trail Tournament July 19, 2011
Wilsonville fielded 2 teams in Oregon City's "End of the Trail" Tournament this past weekend with our white team winning the tournament in convincing fashion. Our Blue team, comprised mostly of younger players also had a solid showing in some cases against much older and more experienced opponents. Results are below.

Wilsonville Wins Battle of Bothell in OT June 27, 2011
The Wildcats crusied through round robin play with convincing victories over three WA teams, Skagitt Valley, Mt. Si and Redmond, to reach the playoff bracket. We expected to play Westview in the semi-finals but the "Red Wildcats" lost a close game to Skagitt Valley who got the 4th spot.
In the semi-finals Skaggit Valley proved be be much tougher than they had been in the morning, but in the end the Wildcats pulled out a one goal victory to advance to the finals against Eastlake.
This was going to be our toughest test to date. Eastlake finished 6th in WA Division 1 and as a team was pretty comparable to West Linn, but with a much more ferocious defense. They are coached by Chris Panos, a professional player for the Washington Stealth and US National Indoor Team.
The first half was a defensive struggle ending in a 1-1 tie. The Wildcats only goal came on an insane individual effort from John Hodson who ran the length of the field with the ball and literally willed the ball into the goal.
In the second half Eastlake raced to a 3-1 lead with just under 10 minutes to go. Eli was concerned we couldn't pull it out. B.A.W.
With about four minutes left Alex Richardson took the ball behind the goal in what we call an "invert", dodged and found Cody White on the crease to bring the score within one.
Two minutes later, Hodson landed the equalizer. Both teams had chances in the final seconds but could not capitalize. Sudden overtime was next.
With Eastlake trying to lock off John and Andrew we planned to go back to the invert game, but early in the overtime session John broke free in the middle and buried the game winner.
Items of note: Throughout the whole weekend the Wildcats defense was suffocating. Led by outstanding goalie play from Taylor Eaton and Evan Richardson the defense allowed 9 goals during four of the five games played and only allowed more than four goals once.
7 midfielders and 5 attackman contributed to the scoring.
Special thanks to all the parents who helped out at the field and brought beverages and snacks. Michelle Tonkin also helped out as our "cruise director" and coordinated some great team bonding meals in our free time.
This was fun. More to to come. Our summer schedule will include match ups with teams such as Oregon City, Tigard, Canby, Wilson, Southridge, Westview and Sherwood amongst others.
Wilsonville Boys HS wins NWOC Title
The Wilsonville Wildcats started slowly but came on strong to defeat Liberty and clinch the NWOC title. This is the 2nd time in the last four years the 'Cats have won the NWOC Conference.

High School Boys announce open field sessions for 2011 pre season November 16, 2010
Boys HS Lacrosse Open Field Sessions and Pre-Season Training
Hey Guys,
Lacrosse open field sessions will start this Thursday and continue every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30p-5:30p until practice officially starts. The sessions will occur on the JV baseball field until further notice.
These sessions will be run by our senior players and supervised by parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering please e-mail our parent booster "Sue Hodson" who will co-ordinate the volunteers.
Volunteers need not interact with the kids, just be near the field where the kids can find them in the event of an incident.
By definition of open field, any student from Wilsonville HS interested in lacrosse may attend the session, players are responsible for their own equipment with the exceptions of helmets.
Attendance at these sessions is NOT mandatory and role will not be taken. Athletes playing winter sports should prioritize their winter sports over attending these sessions.
That said, there will be more competition for spots this year than there ever has been in the history of the program. Preparation for the beginning of "practice" will be critical to your success.
Coaches are not allowed to attend these sessions.
This Thursday ONLY - I'll be at the team room in the basement to check out helmets to people who need them between 3:00p and 3:30p. Feel free to stop by and say hi even if you don't need one.
Optional Fitness training will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting next week, more info coming soon. Again, this is voluntary, but pre-season training will greatly reduce your risk of injury.
I'll send out an email with a lot more info very soon. There's a opportunity for us this year to achieve a greater level of success than has ever been achieved in our program. If you put in the work, you'll see the rewards come May.

Our district recognizes lacrosse as an official school sport and we have access to the school's weight room, team room, film room, buses, etc. We play our home games in Randall Stadium on campus which is one of the finest facilities in the state.
The program is entering its 7th year, has a great combination of senior leadership and young players and is on the verge of climbing to the next level in years to come. We also have a feeder program with over 150 kids enrolled.??The JV2 squad will practice 2-3 days a week from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.
Candidates should have both coaching and playing experience. Wilsonville Boys and Girls programs join forces to launch the Wilsonville Lacrosse Foundation October 12, 2010
Varsity Coaches from the Girls and Boys High School Teams will Lead Youth Programs Under Management of the Newly Formed “Wilsonville Lacrosse Foundation”
In a unanimous move, both girls and boys youth lacrosse programs in Wilsonville have moved their management to the newly created Wilsonville Lacrosse Foundation (WLF). The goal of WLF is to grow lacrosse in the community of Wilsonville at all levels for both boys and girls. As part of this goal, the WLF will assume management of Wilsonville Youth boys and girls Lacrosse that will now have oversight and direct communication with the High School Coaching Staffs, improving the on-field experience of players at every level.
“Due to the nature of the sport, and the ‘newness’ of lacrosse here in the northwest, everyone involved agreed it would be best for the youth players to have better synergy between the high school programs and staff,” said Dave Sanford, Wilsonville High School’s boys varsity lacrosse coach.
Girls youth lacrosse has been available in Wilsonville for more than five years, and boys youth lacrosse has been in Wilsonville for three years. Both directors of the girls and boys youth programs, along with their committees of volunteers for these youth programs, decided that growth would best come from a stronger presence and management from the high school coaches and leadership. In addition, compliance with both the Oregon Youth Lacrosse Association and US Lacrosse, governing bodies of all lacrosse in this state and nation, will be more easily regulated and implemented by the high school lacrosse staff.
“This is such a win-win for both the youth and the high school programs,” added Scott Chase, varsity coach for the girls program at Wilsonville HS. “Being able to have our high school talent help nurture the upcoming youth, well, who can argue that kind of development? It is such a great scenario for all the players.”
As well as creating synergy between the youth and high school, the Wilsonville varsity coaches have plans to increase awareness of lacrosse and create year-round opportunities and travel options for those wanting additional off-season lacrosse experience.
“There are hundreds of places we can take our teams, figuratively and literally,” Sanford stated. “Being able to maximize lacrosse for boys and girls is what other clubs are doing, and we want our Wilsonville lacrosse kids to have those experiences too.”
Effective immediately, the newly formed Wilsonville Lacrosse Foundation, serving boys and girls lacrosse ranging from grades 1-12, will be managed by an executive board headed-up by Sanford and Chase.
“We have a lot of experienced lacrosse people available to us, and we are going to reach out to these lacrosse people and build an incredible program for Wilsonville kids,” Chase stated. “We are so thankful for everyone who helped get the momentum going, our kids are truly benefiting.”
Both information on the high school programs and youth programs will be communicated via school newsletters, newspaper and email during the next few months. Both the high school and youth programs will begin late winter/early spring.

2010 playoff highlights vs Central Catholic
On a rainy night at West Linn HS, Chad Wilbur and Andrew Conway conbined for six goals and jr. midfielder Jeff Hodson added another pair to lead the Cats to a first round playoff victory over Central Catholic and set up a rematch of their 2nd round showdown with Lakeridge from two years ago. Bradford Patey was dominant at the face-off X which helped the Cats control the tempo of the game while sophomore goalie Taylor Eaton rose to the occasion with several saves at point blank range against the gutsy Rams. Defensively the trio of Michael Carpeneter, Austin Kane and Blake Harlow combined for 21 groundballs. "The defense set the tone for us, and the offense answered the call" said Coach Sanford after the game, "when you see three guys combine for picking up 21 groundballs in the defensive end of the field, you know you're defense is doing a good job and that they are going to be tough to beat." The offense matched the defense intensity with a six goal run through much of the second and third quarter putting the game out of reach... and sending the Cats forward to the second round.
The win comes on the heels of the Cats competing an 11-3 regular season where they placed 12 athletes on the NWOC all-conference team including six on the first team and finished 2nd in the conference.
The team's season would end in the 2nd round against Lakeridge, but everyone was pretty happy with the showing of the 5A Wildcats.

Pre-Season Conditioning Starts Monday October 28, 2009
We will begin pre-season conditioning and hosting open facilities every Monday, Wednesday, Friday beginning November 2, 2009 until the season starts. These session will consist of one hour of captain led practices and one hour of conditioning with one of the coaches.
These sessions are voluntary, but it is strongly suggested that you participate as much as possible if you are not involved in winter sports.
Tony Seaman, head coach at Towson (where Wilsonville alum Alec Jernstedt plays D1 lacrosse) says:
"As we move into the late fall and winter months, we stress strength and conditioning. A great deal of emphasis will be put on individual development and fundamental skills. I have always believed that this period of time where a player can make huge personal growth in his own abilities with hard work. This is when one player can outwork everyone else, become a better player and take a giant step in earning playing time."
We will have the biggest team ever in club history this year. It will be competitive. Be prepared for a great season.
