The Heights captured the first Annual Wood Bat Classic by virtue of defeating McNamara 4-2 and Avalon 9-3. Junior Jack Linehan and Senior Luke McCabe recorded wins on the mound while Junior Joe Kelly and Freshman Brady Hall each pitched 3 innings in relief to help secure the wins against McNamara and Avalon respectively.
Cavaliers' Head Coach Brian Carroccio noted that his team's pitching set the tone for the weekend. "All the guys threw so well. I think Jack (Linehan) and (Luke) set the tone with their starts, but we didn't have much fall off when we went to the relievers. All the guys commanded multiple pitches and the defense was there to back them up."
Offensively, the Cavs were paced by Junior 1B George Koutris who had 3 doubles and 4 RBI, Junior 2B Michael Buono 2 doubles, McCabe a triple, and leadoff hitting Junior 3B Kyle McCauley. McCauley scored 4 runs in the tourney, reaching base 5 times and was voted the Tourney MVP.
Joining McCauley in receiving honors were All Tourney selections Koutris, Harry Klein of Avalon and Tyler Styles of McNamara.
