Zion bounces back in a major way!! Defeating GE 39-36
WOW, that's why u play 32minutes!! We played the entire game to the end, GE only played 31:03 and we capitalized on their mistakes! Great job everybody, We outplayed & out-coached them! It all started on the defensive end as Joe Reid had 6!! first-half blocks, followed by 2 from Dom & Raceen respectively. Everyone who played was needed. Dom led us in scoring 18pts, 8rebs, 2stls, & 2blocks. Joe led us on "D" with a game-high 7blocks, he added 12pts, 6rebs, & 2stls. Raceen played a great overall game that didn't show on the stat sheet. Reek, Tone, Dondi & Shaba all played their part. Next week we battle BWC!!
Zion now 8-1 in the Mentoring League After beating GE 47-30!!
We opened the game on a 9-0 run, & controlled the game throughout victory defeating GE 47-30! The Gary brothers were in full effect, Great defense was played by Tone, Raceen, Shaba, & Dondi. Newcomer Joe Reid fit in quite nicely in the rotation. We have to keep it going! Too bad Joe Reid won't be able play next game due a misunderstanding in league rules, regarding his windmill dunk attempt. Reek, Joe, & Dom ALL finished with 11!! Herb led from the sidelines with much needed cheer-leading due to his injury!! He'll help alot in our playoff run!! Great job to everyone involved. Now we have to get at BWC next week!!
9-0 in the CYBA!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Job, we showed resiliency after we almost let Bibleway come back! We won 54-41, but they cut our lead to just 2pts, at 26-24, when they started the 2nd half with a 6-0 run! We displayed great poise and confidence throughout the contest. They were ready and really wanted to knock us off!! The bench was key bringing energy & urgency!! Great job everybody: Dom-Reek-Coron-Tone-Reaceen-Teddy-Shaba-Dondi-Eli-Earn!!
ZION routes Canaan 52-26 after trailing at the half 20-14!!
We started off with another sluggish 1st half, Trailing 20-14. Then WE WOKE UP and Played Defense!!
With 11:05 remaining in the 2nd half, and the game still very much in balance, Coach Jon suggested that the switch from basic man to man; to the FULL Court DIAMOND Press (1-2-1-1)!! Boy what a turn of events; it became a turnover fest, which Canaan turned the ball over 12 consecutive times!! What a Game, we went from trailing by 6 at the half to winning by 24, that's a 30point swing. Kudos to the guys for playing their hearts out! Dondi Blye got his 1st start in league play, Cory came in & was a true spark off the bench. Dom, Herb, Reek, & Shaba had the usual stellar performances respectively!!
Dom - 15pts, 9rebs, 8stls, 1bl
Herb - 6pts, 6rebs, 1stl, 1ast
Reek - 10pts, 8asts, 4rebs, 3stls
Shaheed - 7pts, 6rebs, 2stls
Tone was instrumental creating havoc on the court for other team as well.
ZION IS SHOCKED BY BWC, LOSING 32-25!!
After an ugly 1st half of basketball where Zion couldn't get a FG in the last 8:13 of the half; WE ONLY TRAILED by 1!! When the 2nd half started WE WENT ON a 6-0 run!! to take a the lead @ 15-10; but as time progressed couldn't hit any shots, we were as cold as the days' weather report!! We kept fighting to the end but the refs took the game from us by calling a late-game Technical foul on someone on the bench, with us trailing by 1 @ 25-26 with 2:13 remaining. After that BWC took control of the game on a 6-0 run!! The same run we started the 2nd half with. Talk about Ironic, the same score I beloved EAGLES lost to in the NFC Chip!! We should DEFINITELY BEAT THEM next time as long as everyone is Healthy!! We couldn't get any major contributions on offense since DOM suffered from a sore wrist on his shooting hand!
Still Undefeated in League Play, Zion wins 54-48 in OT!!
WHAT a game, Mt. Zion got out to an early 10-0 lead, then increased the margin to 17-4!!! before we woke up in the 1st half. Zion got it down to 6 @ halftime!! But the 2nd half began and we were still trading baskets until Zion decided to take the game into their hands after losing by 9 (37-28) with 6 minutes left!! Yeah that plenty of time but remember there's no shot clock! What an overall team effort to WIN in OT!! Defense won this game for us Thanks to Tyree aka Chip aka Magic, Shaba, Dom, & Herb all had double-digit rebounds, great guard play from Tone, Reek, & Dondi. But Dom's 22 second half points was HUGE!! He finished with a GAME-HIGH 33 points!!!
Zion 6-0!!! in the Mentoring League Play!!!!
On a blistery cold Saturday morning, Zion came together as a team as we been doing all season long, Waking up Early and taking care of business. Great Job Fellas!! We doin our thing, Playing Ball, giving back and having fun. Total team effort and dominance. It starts great team chemistry!! Everyone is playing their part, from the starters to the bench!! Dondi & Magic were great inspiration & energy from bench. The Gary Brothers did their thing: Reek 13pts, 3rebs, 5asts, & 5stls; Big brother Dom had a double-double 15pts, 11rebs, 4asts, 1stl, & 4blks!! Shaba, Herb, & Tone had 7, 7, & 8 respectively along with tremendous "D", energy, smart, heady play!! Great Job Everybody, Remember we gonna practice @ West Philly High this Wed, leave Zion @615pm!!
The Zion 46ers are 5-0!!! in league play
GREAT PLAY from our bench!! Tone, Eli 6pts, 3rebs, 3asts, & Dondi!!
REDEMPTION!! part deux!!!
Total TEAM domination was key to the victory!!! We did it, we MERCY RULE them. It was beautiful holding a team to 4 second half points. DEFENSE wins Chips!! If we keep this up we'll be on our way!! We controlled everything in the second half. Especially rebounding and it pays to play at home!! Three guys in double figures scoring wise (the Gary brothers: Dom & Reek 13pts each, KJ with 10) Herb killen'em on the boards w/11.
Great interior "D" by Shaba. Inspirational play from off the bench with Duck, Don, & Tone!!
We have to stay humble & consistent and we'll win a chip!!
The New Season Begins!!!!
Zion Starts the Season off Right!! Beating Reigning Champs! in overtime!!! The game should've ended in regulation but KJ missed a wide open layup, after a beautifully designed play drwan up by Coach Ken. It was a total team effort to win and start the season off right!! Zion was led by terrific guard play from the Gary brothers:(Dom 21pts on 7/11 shooting; Tyrike w/ 5 asts, 2stls, 2 rebs. The newcomers to league did well in their debut so as Herb, KJ, Brand, & Don. Shaba played well down the stretch!!
Zion routes CYBA 59-39 at Rewarding the Drive Tournament!!
J. Reid shot 2/4 FG
Ness went 4/10 FG; 2/4 FT
A. Moye 3/3-2pt FG, 0/2-3pt FG
Good News is WE have a tournament to play on April 12th & the AAU season is about to begin! keep coming to practice on mondays & thursdays!!
Tyree "Chuck" Harris ranked #38 in area
It was a block party w/o the chips & DJ, What a victory 50-46 over Mt. Zion who led early 14-2. We survived, make key layups, switched up the "D" and blocked everything in the paint. Great Job fellas!!! Welcome back Mr. Lawson, thanks to heady play by the Gary brothers, the support of everybody We did it!!! Shaba & Cory, & Lenny held it down in the back of the zone. Everyone else did their thing, Quis, Ton, Duck, Dom, lil' Reek, Tank!

Championship game on Video part 1
Zion Wins the Championship
Zion was led by the strong play of last season's all-star and Gratz gaurd Sam Blackmon. He controlled the game and pressured Exodus into numerous turnovers. When the team was stagnant Sam generally made the play to keep us ahead. He was assisted by the 3 all-stars from Zion; Terrance "Bird" Cox, Marquis Williams, and Marcus Bowens. "Bird" followed up his 28 pt all-star performance with 11 pt in the championship game, Marquis hit a vital turn around jumpshot and 2 clutch free throws in the final minutes of the game, and Marcus Bowens did, what he did the whole season, provided the team with consistency, hard work, and all the little things needed to make any team great. Zion's all-pub member, James Gregory, went to Hampton University to meet with their coaches the day before the championship game. Hampton is 1 of 6 schools that are recruiting James and looking to benefit from this great basketball player. James was vital in preventing Exodus from getting any further Offensive Rebounds in the last 5 minutes of the game and he ended his Zion basketball career with a block shot with 1 sec to play on the clock to seal the win.
Zion also got vital minutes from their bench. This years M.V.P, Antonio Spady, did what Bowens did all year, provided stability and effort every minute he was in the game. This years 16 and under M.V.P Shaheed Smith came into the game and clogged up the middle getting a key Reb, Ast, and Block. Jamal Gregory was the most dedicated member of the team. Always giving 100% effort whether it was in support of his teammates or stepping up to fill in a void all season long. The last member of the 2007 Champs was Chris Spencer, after starting the season off strong Chris took a sabbatical from the team, but came back in time to give the needed support to help us win the Championship.
With the exception of Bird and Chris, this team all started their basketball lives with Zion. For most of them this is their last official game with the church. The coaches would like to Thank You All for being great kids. Your future is bright if you guys remember the lessons we learned together and apply them to your life. We Love You and can't wait to see how great you will become as Men.
WE WON THE CHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
