White Knoll Outplayed by the Demons
White Knoll vs. Lug-off Elgin
(Aug. 29th, 2008)
On Friday, August 29th, the Timberwolves began the 2008 campaign by hosting the Demons of Lug-off Elgin. The Demons were in the playoffs last year and were playing for revenge from last year’s 31-28 Timberwolf victory. The Demons scored two touchdowns in the first half to take a 14-0 lead at halftime.
The Demon defense used a variety of stunts and blitzes to keep our offense off balance. As a matter of fact, our offense did not score till late in the 4th quarter on a 18-yard pass from freshman Stephen Cagle to junior wide receiver, Brandon Homa.
By that time, the Demons had built their halftime lead and would go on for a 34-6 victory.
It was a very disappointing loss for our team. Defensively, we felt that we knew their plays and had them scouted very well. Unfortunately for us, their execution of the Wing-T offense allowed them scoring opportunities. On offense, we were held to 142 total yards. As a matter of fact, we had only 16 rushing yards on 33 carries. We must perform better and more consistently to be the team that we desire. Clay Roland, senior defensive tackle, was the Timberwolf Defensive Player-of-the-Game by grading out at 88% with 4 tackles, 2 assists, and 2 tackles for loss. Senior punter, Eric Huffman, was our Timberwolf Special Teams Player-of-the-Game with a 31.1 yard punting average in his first duty as a punter. Offensively, we felt like our performance warranted having no offensive player.
Even after a disappointing loss, our team is looking forward to hosting the Diamond Hornets from Lower Richland. Lower Richland is 1-0 after winning their opener against Dreher 27-3. Lower Richland is very athletic and employs the spread offense while incorporating a 4-3 on defense. We look forward to the challenge this Friday night in the Wolf Den as we look to even our record against this quality opponent.
Key Players Out for White Knoll
As if opening up the season wasn't tough enough, the White Knoll Timberwolves will be missing a few defensive starters for the season opening match-up against Lugoff-Elgin.
Defensive Tackle Keyshawn DeVault and Tackle Craig Shady are both out with knee problems, Defensive End Brandon Proveaux (Last Years Leading Tackler) and Offensive Tackle Kyler Sanford are suspended for the opening game due to a violation of team rules.
Jesse Shealy (SR) will step in to fill in for DeVault and Justin Cale (JR) will fill in for Proveaux. Each player has had good fall camps and will do well against LE.
On the Offensive side, Travis Reeves (JR) will fill in on the offensive line.
