Great Season WOFCA
The entire Westminster Wildcats organization is proud of the accomplishments of every football team and cheerleading squad during the 2008 season. We would like to mention few special team accomplishments below, and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

* Super Congratulations go out to the 6-8 Federal team, Ron McAlister, and his coaching staff on winning the 6-8 Invitational Super Bowl !! The boys posted a 14–0 win to defeat the Sykesville Raiders and continue their undefeated season. Good luck in the State Playoffs ! We will post information on the team’s next matchup when it becomes available. We encourage all Wildcats and Wildcat families to continue supporting the 6-8 Federal team during their extended season. We are very proud of our 6-8F team, and the way they have represented Westminster in the invitational tournament, and going forward into the State Division III Playoffs.

* Congratulations on an excellent season to the 7-9 American team, lead by Scott Wagner and his coaching staff. After an opening round win vs. Damascus, the 7-9A team avenged their only loss of the season, by defeating Catonsville 14-0. The Super Bowl matchup, against high powered St. Peters, was a defensive struggle, with both sides evenly matched. Unfortunately, St. Peters squeaked by winning 6-0. We are very proud of our 7-9A team, and they way the represented Westminster in the MMYFCL Super Bowl.

Special congratulations also go out to 7-9 Federal teams, who practiced and worked hand-in-hand, side-by-side with the American team, throughout the 2008 season. We are proud of the “Green” team, led by Len Cabe & staff, who also made the playoffs. We are also proud of the 7-9F White team, led by Scott Tobias & staff, where sound investment of football fundamentals will transition into even more success down the road.

* Congratulations to the 10-12 American team, lead by Anthony Oxendine and his coaching staff. Almost the entire team returned to defend its 9-11A 2007 MMYFCL Super Bowl Championship. It was a new experience for a Westminster Wildcats team to be the one that everyone was aiming to beat this year; the defending champs always get everyone’s best shot. The returning players and new additions jelled into a fundamentally tough football team, and battled through some fierce competition during the regular season.

To advance past the 1st round playoffs, 10-12A beat North Carroll for the 2nd week in a row, in an overtime thriller, at Jaycees Park, which was the last home game for many 8th graders on the team. The 10-12A Wildcats faced the WHC Warhawks, a team with similar character and makeup, in the semi-finals. This Wildcats Team had beaten WHC three times in a row, which were the Warhawks only losses in the last two years. The hard-hitting defensive struggle went into overtime, where the 4th time was a charm for the WHC, who prevailed 8-0. WHC beat Damascus in the Super Bowl 8-0. We are very proud of our 2008 10-12A team, and the way they represented Westminster throughout their years in the program, who fought through some very lean times and eventually reached the top.

* The Westminster Wildcats also extend special congratulations to all of the following teams as well. 2008 saw both more Wildcats playing football than ever before, and more Wildcat teams in the playoffs than ever before. We really, really appreciate everything our volunteers accomplished to help our young people play football. Our program is more successful, because of all of the following teams:

11-13 American, led by Jim Runser and Staff. Extra special recognition go out to this playoff team of departing 8th & 9th grade players, departing coaches and volunteers for all of your valuable contributions to the program. THANK YOU!

10-12 Federal, led by Nick DiBari and Staff. This team improved greatly during the year, and battled hard in the playoffs.

9-11 American, led by Kevin Simms and Staff. We appreciate the accomplishments of this collection of players, staff and volunteers who overcame obstacles as a team, and made the playoffs.

8-10 American, led by David Medcalf and Staff. These players, coaches and volunteers fought hard all year, and made the playoffs.

8-10 Federal, led by Bob Michael and Staff. The Wildcats extend extra special appreciation of this collection of players, staff and volunteers who overcame obstacles as a team, represented the program well.

6-8 American, lead by John Blessing and Staff. The Wildcats appreciate the team oriented approach and excellent results in the first year of score-keeping at this level, while keeping it highly instructional and fundamentally sound.

U6 “Pit Bull” Teams, Green and White, lead by Lloyd Transue and Jason Nightingale. Our introductory level to fundamental skill-building football was in good hands, as was evident in the improved play of our young players.

The Wildcats want to thank every volunteer who participated in the program this year; you are difference makers, and your efforts are appreciated! We believe the program continues to move forward in service to our community, and hope everyone shares our positive outlook on the future.

Thank you,

The Westminster Optimist Football & Cheer Association Board of Directors
