Cardinals Capture 2008 Division Title!
It is official the Sunday Cardinals finished the regular season in first place with a 10-5 record!! Congratulations to all for your effort, your commitment and your dedication to this season. This began last fall when we all took a hard look at our team and realized we could be better. It certainly showed in the standings for us this year.
Our playoff quest begins this Sunday at Barbour Pond when we take on the Padres who are seeded 4th in the playoffs. If we win on Sunday, we will play the winner of 2 vs. 3 for our division championship.  Win or lose, I would like to invite you to a barbecue on Sunday August 24th after the division championship  game.  We deserve to celebrate and I hope you will join me at my house on the 24th.

GREAT JOB!!!

Mike

Cardinals Get Pecked By Orioles
August 6, 2008
The Cardinals got pecked by the first place Orioles on Tuesday losing by one run in a 7-6 loss. The Cardinals had the tying run on base before the rain (sprinkler) delay, but were unable to bring in the run after the superior grounds crew shut off the water to the field. The Cardinals left a total of 15 men on base but still played the first place Orioles well. The Cardinals play this Tuesday for third place in Westwood.

Cardinals Pounded By Phillies
August 4, 2008
The Cardinals traveled to Rockland and got off to an early lead putting up 4 runs but the Phillies hitmen pounded away 20+ hits and 20 runs.  The Cardinals tires were flat and the Phillies kept them that way after taking a big lead. Final Score Phillies 20 Cardinals 4

Weeknight Cardinals Flying High
August 1, 2008
The Weeknight Cardinals advance to the playoffs with a 6-9 record after a tremendous team effort on Thursday night. Another bottom of the 9th (6th) 12-11 victory lead by a two out bases loaded clutch hit by Tommy the Pressure Cook-er to advance Kevin the Hit Man Smith (or whoever happened to be running for him at the time) from third and Glen Lover Boy Hydock all the way from second with a dramatic game winning head first slide into home. Pitching held strong with a great start from Roger Doc Lope, then Mike Make the Game Interesting Dittamo threw to a few batters before an outstanding relief appearance by Pablo P-Lo Lopez, who came in to close the game. Warming up in the bull pen should the game have gone into extra innings was Bobby No Go Salerno. After the game Coach Dittamo led the team in an emotional tear jerking playoff entering speech, which led to an even more emotional team meeting at Burkes. The first playoff game is Tuesday Night against the 1st Place Orioles at 8pm in Park Ridge.

Cardinals Team Up & Beat Padres
July 27, 2008

The Cardinals were down early in the game by 6 runs but team confidence had the Birds pecking away with a great come-from-behind victory in the last inning.  The Birds scored 4 times in the last inning capped off with Tom Cooke's game-winning triple scoring 2 on his blast over the right-fielder's head.  Final score 8-7.  Tremendous, never-say-die TEAM effort.

The Cardinals remain in first place with a 10-3 record.

Cardinals In First Place
July 20, 2008

Great win against the division leading Astros!  Cardinals battled all game long, overcame some early mistakes but held together and won a big game against the Astros.  The final score was 15-9 which put the Cardinals in sole possession of first place.  Great job by all!

Cardinals Mystify Mets
July 13, 2008
Cardinals mystify Mets with a 5-1 victory today by a strong 9 inning complete game performance from G Fisher. Gordon held the Mets to only 1 run on 6 hits.  The G-man also provided 4 rbi's to seal the deal and improve the Cards record to 8-3.

Cardinals Trump Angels In 9th
June 29, 2008
The Cardinals had another strong outing from S. Choromanski who had the Angels off balance thru 7 innings only giving up 2 runs. M Dittamo entered the game in the 8th as relief but the Angels scored 1 and then tied the game in the 9th with 2 more runs. Dittamo provided the offensive charge with a perfect day at the plate going 5-5 and 4 rbi's. The big hit came in the 9th when the Cardinals played small ball to set up a game winning base hit to score the winning run. The Cardinals improve their record to 7-3 on Sundays.

Mets Defeat Cardinals
June 24, 2008
The Cardinals were defeated by the Mets II 10-5 in a 9 inning battle at the Westwood dump.  The Cardinals had a 1 run lead until the 4th inning when the Mets played small ball and put across 4 runs.  The Cardinals came back and tied the game in the 5th but the Mets pecked away with a run in the 5th, 6th and 2 more in the 7th.  The Cardinals were able to get another run in the 8th after a 20 min rain delay but not enough to overtake the Mets II who answered with 2 more in the bottom half.  The Cardinals went down quick in the 9th and were sent to the parking lot with special effects of Thunder & Lightening.

Cardinals Back On Track
June 17, 2008 The weeknight Cards got back on the winning track with a gutsy performance against a stubborn Nationals team. Our pitching struggled but we more than made up for it with some good defensive plays and timely hitting.  Special mention goes to Kevin Smith who did a superb job behind the plate last night. Thanks to Kevin for strapping on the tools of ignorance for us. The final score was 15-10 and our record now stands at 3-6

Cardinals Shutout Padres
June 15, 2008
Steve Choromanski goes the distance with a complete game shutout victory only allowing 3 hits and 2 walks over the 9 innings. The Cardinals offensive charge came in the fourth inning plating 4 runs on 4 hits with Steve also contributing at the plate with an rbi single.  It was Cardinal Steve who retired the side facing the minimum 3 Padre batters in five of the nine innings. The Padres tried to rally in the 9th but a game ending 6-4-3 double play put the shutout in the books. The Cardinals record improves to 6-2 for the season

Bergen Cards KKKKKKKKKKKKK Passaic Cards
June 12, 2008 The Bergen Cards mercy the Passaic Cards with a 1 hit shutout.  The Sunday temperature was hot and steamy as the Passiac Cards only managed 2 base runners in the game.  The Bergen Cards pitching sent the Passaic Cards back to their nest with 13 strikeouts over a 7 inning mercy.  The Passaic Cards fall to 5-2 for the season

Cardinals Jack The Jackals
June 1, 2008 The Cardinals go 5-1 with a 9th inning 10-9 win against the Jackals on Sunday. The Cardinals scored 10 runs on 9 hits, with the combined pitching of Doc, Steve and Mike giving up 9 runs on 13 hits. The big hit came in the top of the 9th when Eddie the Eagle Angrisani flew all the way to third with a stand up RBI triple.

Cardinals Rule
May 25, 2008

The Cardinals went undefeated at Yogi Stadium with two outstanding pitching performances by Mike Dittamo in game one with the 3-3 tie against Mel's Mets, and a 4-2 win by Roger "Doc" Lope against the Rockies. The team played solid baseball in both games, narrowly missing a sweep.  Cool relief came post-game in the Yuengling's tent.

Cards Top the Rockies
May 6, 2008 Last night, our weeknight team clipped the Hudson Valley Rockies 4-3 behind the great pitching of Doc and our newest acquisition, Kevin Ribitzki.  The game was marked by some stellar defensive plays and some timely hitting. The Higginator once again came through with a clutch 2-run single that helped propel us to the win.  Great effort last night by all and once again, the Yuengling tasted sooooooooo good afterward.

Mike

p.s.  Unbelievable defensive plays by Glen Hydock, Jim Ross, Tom Cooke and Kevin Smith drove this team effort to another level.  Everybody played pitch by pitch baseball, and excelled.

Cardinals Back To Winning Ways
May 18, 2008
Its back to normal for the Cardinals with another win over the Athletics. The Cardinals came off the bye week hungry with the Big Unit Kimak posting 5 K's over 4 solid innings. Big Tom set the tempo for the Cardinals to punch out the A's to record their fourth victory of the season. The infield flashed the leather and turned two double plays.  Next week the Cardinals play an exhibition game at historic Yogi Berra Stadium.

Cards Fold to Astros
May 4, 2008
The Astros got out to an early lead and never looked back, handing the Cardinals their first defeat on Sunday. The Cardinals never gave up and threatened the Astros in 3 consecutive innings with bases loaded but could not deliver the big offensive charge to cash in the runs. The Cardinals left a total of 14 runners on base .  The Cardinals fall to second place giving the Astros sole possession of first place.

Next week is Mothers day and the Cardinals will remain in their nest with the Sunday bye.
The Cardinals leave their nest and return to the diamond to face the Athletics on May 18th

Dittam0 hitter into the 5th
April 24, 2008
The Cardinals pounded down the Brew Crew with a 15-2 victory Thursday night. Mike Dittamo threw a no hitter into the fifth inning and had only 1 ball hit into the outfield, for an out. A first inning, 5 hit, 4 run rally by the Birds allowed Dittamo to throw his stuff with a lead the entire game.

Near flawless fielding and 19 hits brought the Birds' weeknight record to 1-1.

Indians Ambush Weekday Cardinals

The Birds sustained a 5-run ambush at the hands of the League defending champion Indians before they even got to bat in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Cardinals took to the air and mounted a counter-attack, highlighted in the 3rd inning by Doc's bases-clearing double. That put the game in a knot at 5 runs each.

Mike cruised through 5 innings, backed by some stellar defensive plays only allowing 1 additional run.

Doc took over in the 6th and the Indians continued to find ways to sneak the hits in and score two more runs making the score 8-5. We held the Indians at bay in the top of the 8th,  and the Cardinals started another rally with Harry reaching base on a one-out bunt-single. Despite consecutive hits by Mike and Doc scoring Harry and with the tying and winning runs looming on 3rd and 2nd, Teddy and the Indians shut the door with a ground out. The Indians took "Scalp One" of the 2008 Weekday Night League rivalry. Final Score 8-7 Indians.  Libations, wings and pizza at Burkes took away only some of the sting.

Cardinals Put Sox Away & Streak to 3-0

The Cardinals turned back the Black Sox in the 8th and improved their record to 3-0. We got out early posting 5 runs in the first inning capitalizing on walks by the Black Sox starter.  Cardinal errors allowed the Black Sox to stay close, but the RedBirds kept getting guys on.  Relentless key hits ended up scoring 13 runs.  The Cards did flash leather in the game, highlighted by 2 double plays.  Solid pitching performances came from Steve who gets the win, Mike who was strong in the middle and Doc who put out the fire in the last inning to get the save.  We continue to work as a team providing memorable diamond cuts at the dish, exciting action on the base paths, sparkling (sometimes) play in the field and incredible bench talk.

Cardinals Clip Angels Wings w/ 9th Inning Rally

Cardinals' teamwork pays off and the Birds overtake the Angels in the 9th with the long ball.  Our record improved to 2-0. A committee of pitchers, determined defense (with 2 double plays), clutch hitting and a couple of long balls were all in the Cards today.

Gordon's 2 run blast in the 6th cut the Angels lead to 7-3. Tom Kimak entered the game in the 9th with a pinch hit 2 rbi single. This set the table for "Frankenator" Higgins to take a 2 strike pitch over the left field fence for a 3 rbi game winning home run.

Gordon gets the win and Tom shut the door in the 9th for the save.

Cardinals Pitch A's a Fit
April 6, 2008

Cardinals win their opening day game against the A's.

Cardinal pitching staff 3-hit the A's, walking 6, striking out 5 and only allowed 1 unearned run.  The defense turned 2 double plays.   Turning point was in the 6th with a two out rally cashing in on the A's mistakes.   Click on the badge below for today's pix:
