Summary

T-Ball is a player’s first introduction to the game of baseball. Kids learn the basics of catching, throwing, fielding, batting, and base running. A smaller baseball diamond is used with smaller teams and a softer baseball. Our focus is on outdoor fun and exercise.

Teams in T-Ball have a roster of approximately 10 players.

Equipment

  • Required: Glove, Batting Helmet, Hat, Jersey

  • Recommended: Athletic Support (i.e. jock or jill), Long Pants

  • Optional: Cleats, Baseball Pants

* Baseball hats and jerseys should be worn to each practice or game.

Duration: 75 Minutes

Game

Rules of Play

  • NO strikeouts.

  • NO lead-offs or stealing.

  • NO OUTS! Although fielding players should attempt to make them.

  • All players shall have a turn at bat during an inning and the last batter runs all bases.

  • Tee is used for every batter.

  • The distance between the bases shall be 50 feet.

  • All batters MUST wear helmets when on deck, at bat, or on base.

  • Players must wear full uniform (jersey and hat).

  • No new inning shall start after 60 minutes.

Half the players of the fielding team will be spaced out evenly in the infield to field the ball batted in play. The other half of the fielding players will go to the outfield to participate in a drill that will change each week.

Weekly Practice Drill

  • Each week a new drill will be taught to provide instruction on the basic fundamentals of catching, throwing, fielding, batting, and base running.

  • The drill will be taught and performed during game time.

  • Half of the players on the fielding team will go to an area in the outfield where the drill will take place. The group will change every turn in the field.

  • The drill will be repeated for each inning until the game and session is over.

Coaching

There will be three coaches per team (1 Head Coach, 2 Assistants) if the number of parent volunteers allow. There will also be two student workers present to facilitate game play and run the practice drill.

Head Coach

  • Make batting and fielding line-ups.

  • Help instruct hitting when team is at bat.

  • Assist student worker during practice drills.

Assistant Coach

  • Coach a base when hitting.

  • Coach one side of field when defending.

  • Keep kids safe on bench.

  • Clean up bats in on-deck circle.

Student Worker #1

  • Facilitate game play by placing balls on tee.

  • Provide batting instruction to players.

  • Anything to keep the game moving.

Student Worker #2

  • Facilitate practice drills in the outfield.
