Pine Barrens Canoe Weekend - 2020

Troop 56 Permission Slip

Friday May 22nd – Sunday May 24th

Be at the Elk’s at 3:00PM on Friday May 22nd, right after school.
We have a lot of gear we need to prep before we leave.
We will depart at 4:00PM sharp.

Our trip will take 3 hours so pack a snack.

..... Carpool - Directions will be given out on Friday
..... Elk’s Club Sunday, May 24th (LATE ~ 8:00pm)
We will be paddling in the NJ Pine Barrens, an awesome natural resource in our own backyard. Miles of scenic rivers that will keep you wanting to come back for more.

All Scouts that can swim are welcome.
We will be using troop canoes. PFDs are to be worn at ALL times while on river.
Scouts can fish time permitting; BYO fishing rod. If 16 years or older will need fishing license.

Friday - Setting up camp and patrol cooking.
Saturday - Early start with a quick breakfast and a full day of canoeing
Saturday night - Will be a Pine Barren tradition of Pizza from Chico's
Sunday - Break camp, canoe down the little egg harbor river to lake Lenape where we will "clean" our canoes and kayaks while cooling off

• Scout Uniform Shirt (to wear while traveling only)
• Bring 2 types of clothes, “wet” river clothes and “dry” camp clothes (no cotton).
• Camping supplies: .
......Tent, ground cloth and rain fly,
......sleeping pad and sleeping bag,
......mess kit,
......water bottle
......personal hygiene kit (tooth brush, etc).

• Supplies for canoeing:
......plenty of dry clothes,
......plastic bags for wet clothes,
......rope for clothes line,
......bug spray,
......sun block,
......two changes of shoes (one set will get wet),
......extra socks
......“dry bag” for gear.
......Eyeglasses straps (if you wear glasses)
......other straps / bungees to keep personal gear on canoe if it should tip
• Work on Advancement, Scoutmaster will be available for conferences
• Work on canoeing skills
• Practice for high adventure treks
• Have Fun

Do Not Bring:
• Electronic devices (radio, IPods, video games, DVD players, etc.)
• Cell Phones… Adult Leaders will have them for emergencies and to call parents when we get close to the Elk’s Club when we return.
• Anything going on the canoe that cannot stand being soaked.
