| A major winter storm is possible late Tuesday night and into Wednesday, potentially bringing Long Island 6 inches of snow or more, forecasters said Monday.
"Forecast models continue to point to a significant winter storm impacting the area from late Tuesday night into Wednesday," a hazardous weather outlook statement issued Monday morning by the National Weather Service read.
Coastal flooding in the area of the western Long Island Sound and the back bays of western Long Island's South Shore is also possible, according to the weather service.
The weather service said the chance of snow overnight Tuesday into Wednesday is about 70 percent - with an 80-percent chance of snow during the day on Wednesday. Winds are supposed to strengthen, as well, with winds of between 5 and 11 mph Tuesday increasing to between 16 and 24 mph Wednesday, forecasters said.
Of course, as many Long Islanders learned when we were spared from the most-recent major snowstorm that buried Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey, a lot will depend on how the storm tracks.
There is still a chance this storm could track east of Montauk Point, which could spare much of the area again. * FROST SPRING OPENER IN JEAPORDY- STAY TUNED.

| I love how they use the word "explodes" when referring to the possible snow storm. As if this latest storm is also a product of Al Qaeda working along side with mother nature.

| I never understood the reasoning behind the need for flashlights during a winter storm. Wouldn't you want to have a granola bar or a pack of gummy bears or something in the event you skidded of the road into a snow bank and were trapped there for a few days. Or maybe even say, "A major snow advisory is in effect, please stock up on food, water and extra pair of gloves". Just a thought.
