Agree, toughest division of the day!! Waltham did look to have a clean routine, and Methuen and Medford may have had mistakes, but there is obviously more to judging than being clean. It was awsome!! No boubt there will be invites from here. There were some girls hurt in this division, anybody know how they are?

Wow!!!! What a wonderful division of competition. There were 5 very tough teams!! The announced winners may have been a suprise, but they easily could have called Methuen, Medford, Waltham, Everett or Taunton 1st or 2nd!! Some did have mistakes, some were clean, but in my eyes, ALL should advance they were that tight. EMASS should be proud!!!!

As a Cheer Coach who watched this division, I too was very surprised that Waltham was not announced first or second. Methuen & Medford were excellent, a couple of minor flaws, but the Waltham routine was perfect. And yes, it was a great division to watch. Good luck to all who advance to NE Regionals, competition will only get tougher! Good night everyone, long day, we are tired!

I think the judges were spot on with this division. Yes, each team had their flaws but in my opinion these 2 teams showed the most difficulty overall. I'm anxious to see who gets the invite because the scores had to be close, this was my favorite division of the night.

5 very competitive squads. Looked to me that Medford & Waltham actually had the only "clean" performances, (but all were trmendous). Methuen, Everett and Taunton all had drops in stunts. Not being a judge, I don't know what deductions were for any of the teams, but curious when Methuen dropped their stunt and the spotter actually assisted in catching the flyer, is the point deduction the same as just dropping a stunt? Maybe there is a coach out there who has the answer. Good luck to Eastern Mass at Regionals.

In regards to the Methuen fall in their stunt, by definition a Major Mistake (falls from stunts), are a 1 point deduction. A major Fall (pyramid collapse etc...) is a 2 point deduction. I would put the Methuen fall in the 1 point deduction category. I do not know the answer if there is a different deduction if the Professional Safety Spotter actually catches the falling stunt.

This was SUCH a close division! I too had Waltham placing top 2...however in sure first and fourth were only off by tenths of points. Regionals could be anyones day!

There is no points for having the SPOTTERS jump in to try and catch a flyer. That is their job! Half the time they don't even need to try and catch the girl because her bases under her catch her just fine!

Overall, I believe the Top 2 teams were Spot on! 1 point off of your score sheet is not a whole lot when you are scoring high on your sections of your score sheet!

Toughest division of the day...I think the top 5 teams should move on...all their falls were minor, I'm not a judge but they teams were all near perfect! Big shout of to Taunton for being mentioned in such a powerehouse as Eastern Ma...I loved their routine.

I believe waltham will definitely be invited seeing as Taunton and Everett most likely both received deductions for their stunting errors. As far as the next round goes, i think the team with no deductions will place top 2.In response to the comment that said a 1 point deduction isn't that big of a deal for high scoring teams, i believe all teams moving on in this division will be scoring high in each section of the score sheet...1 point could put someone from 1st to 3rd. The next round will be even tougher. Good luck to all!

If I remember correctly, I could be wrong so dont bite my head off but I thought Methuen also had a stunt issue and they placed 1st, so I think that proves that invites could go anyway! it certainly was a very very tough division, all teams fought hard and all deserve to advance on if they could

I completely agree with how the judges placed the teams. In my opinion, I really do no see the point of invites. These girls are in a competitive sport. They should not have to go through heart-broken emotions after losing, get invited, and then have to go through it again. COME ON....I know Waltham stepped up last year and declined their invite (that they very well deserved) due to the fact that an "invite" is not the same as winning. I think pop warner should go back to its old ways...taking 1st and 2nd NO INVITES.

I have to disagree with Manndz13. You are using the word "invite" like it's something that is just given away!! The correct wording is "Qualify". It is my understanding that the teams that are called and asked back to competition, have met the scoring criteria that earned them an "invite". NE Qualifiers were a two day competition. It is my understanding that if a teams scores that competed on Saturday, were better than the scores of the 1st & 2nd place teams in Sundays competition, they would then "Qualify".. This woud guarantee that the very best would be competing at NE Regional Championships, be it Waltham, Taunton or whoever.. If I am wrong, please correct me.
You may also agree how the judges placed the teams, but their are others who differ with your opinion. I also disagree with you when you state that "these girls should not have to go through the heart-broken emotions after losing, and then have to go through it again.. These girls would LOVE the chance to compete again... Like you said, it's a competitive sport... Just ask the Medford girls!!! I saw tears of joy Saturday, not heart-broken emotions... They were an "invite". They "Qualified" and they earned it... If Waltham and Taunton "Qualify", that's great for everyone involved. It makes for a stronger, tougher competition! Some people believe they should have won.. To"Qualify" esures that the finest will be competing for the New England Championships, and that's what we would like to see!!

Waltham used to have a rule that they do not accept invites, as an organization they do not take them, anyone know if this has changed?

I think this division is really anyones game, I would be surprised if both Taunton and Everett do not get invites, regionals will be a tough fight for these teams!

@ Cheer1970 - that is my understanding as well. A third or fourth place sqaud could have a higher score than the first or second place winners on Sunday, and these invites do assure the best-of-the best are represented. Last year our girls took first place at League, EMass and NEC. At Regionals we were knocked out of first place by an invited team and we took second. That team that took first DESERVED the win, so never underestimate the underdog! If you are competing.. you've earned the right to be there! Good luck to all the girls in Worcester!!! Can't wait to see what they all bring

I believe you are corect in your definition of the term QUALIFY, but with a little tweak.. The Qualifying score is determined by the AVERAGE of the 1st/2nd place teams' scores from each region. If a team does QUALIFY, Pop Warner is informing them that their scores met or exceeded the average scores of the 1st/2nd place teams from the different regions, therefore earning the opportunity to advance. I also believe that Waltham has changed it's position this year. They are accepting if they Qualify.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you're saying that if the 3rd and 4th place teams get scores close to or higher than the 1st or 2nd place team in another conference (for example the top 2 teams on sunday in your division) then they would receive an invite?

It should be interesting to see what happens when Derby and Edgewood are entered into this mix. Im not sure who will get invited from Sundays comp but so far moving on we have:

Methuen
Derby
Medford
Edgewood

Invites (in my opinion)
Waltham
Everett

Does anyone have any idea who else looked good on sunday?

@Boomer, I understand that Edgewood, Derby & New Milford were ALL excellent on Sunday. Although New Milford didn't place, some believe they should have.. Methuen, Medford, Waltham, Taunton & Everettt were great on Saturday. Any one of these teams could have placed 1st, (it was that close). This is exactly the reason why you have invites/qualify. These teams ALL should be competing in the NE Regional Finals!! If they are all participating, this should be one of the most competitive competitions in quite some time... Can you imagine having 7 or 8 teams competing with no clear-cut favorite?? That's what it's all about!

We lost a girl to a ankle injury the day before competition. We had to redo our pyramid in an hours time the first time we ran thru it fully was on the practice mat. You certainly are not acting like a CHEERCAPTAIN... Do you actually believe that Waltham is purposely keeping an EMASS 1st Place Trophy? I highly doubt Waltham would hold on to ANYTHING they they didn't win... And why would Waltham be sending Everett a 1st Place Trophy? Everett came in 2nd.. I hope you don't represent Everett, I think you are posting these negative comments just to create a stir... These are class organizations!! I honestly believe you are NOT from Everett, just someone looking to start controversy!! Good luck to ALL the Teams, you deserve it, and pay no attention to the CHEERCAPTAIN!!

Hi: Unfortunately there was a mistake made. it was not in the scores, but the final score and when the tallying was done, the sorting in the computer didn't sort it correctly, so that is why Waltham was announced as the winner, Methuen second and the huskies not announced at all. The error was found after we got home and started looking at the score sheets. We are human. people and mistakes are made, they have been corrected and the teams have been told.Trophies will be returned to their respective teams. Please do not continue on this forum bashing people for doing the best they can. That division could of gone to anyone and,I am sure Waltham will qualify to move on. Good luck to all at Regionals.!! I honestly think this division will depend on what the judges are looking for that day. Over the years I have noticed sometimes a team with high difficulty and maybe a minor bobble will win over the team with low difficulty but a clean routine on the other hand I have also seen teams that have a high difficulty one minor bobble and an amazing routine not place and the teams that are clean but maybe don't have as hard of a routine place top 2. Lets just hope the kids bring their A game and have some fun! Good luck to all!
