Since there are so many people on this forum I thought I would post what Karen sent out last night.
6 girls and 1 coach will come down to the floor for awards, this will help to speed up the award process. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Just wanted to be clear on this. Only 6 girls and 1 coach from each team will be on the floor for the awards ceremony?
Unlike past comps where the entire teams were on the floor?
That would mean that the remainder of the teams are in the stands? Am I getting this correct?

Is this true for both days or just Saturday?

That stinks, i dont see how the number of kids actually on the floor speeds thing up, Its not the kids that take forever its the judging and scoring. The kids have such a blast on the floor its such a fun release and a chance for them all to dance and mingle. And how is a coach going to pick 6 kids. Its hard enough to pick the 2 to go get the trophy, now only 6 on the floor.
That is a horrible idea, takes all the fun out of the end of the session for the kids !!! How many times have all us parents caught the team hug and excitement when / if their name is called.... oh sorry only 6 six and pan to the stands... ridiculous

This has been done for the past few years, it is really nothing new. I agree it is difficult to choose but Regionals is the same way so mostly everyone will get a chance. I had girls that would have rather stayed up in the stands than go down on the mat. Trust me, those girls have fun in the stands as well.

As a coach I feel that it is really unfair to the girls. I have taught my girls that we are a team. We win as a team, we lose as a team, we compete as a team. I have always stressed to them that each member of our team is important. I would rather not do the parade if it meant that the team could stay together for awards. Just my two cents. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

It has not been done that way. Last year I had my whole team on the mat at qualifiers and at regionals. It is really tough to choose. Even for the coaches. I'm head coach, so I'll go down, but my assistant coaches deserve to be there for it too.

And I agree- How is it speeding anything up? We all sit there waiting for scores to be tabulated.

I do remember in the past that only a few girls were selected per team with 1 coach. Did it speed things up more than likely it did because when you have teams of 20 plus walking in opposed to only 6 girls and a coach there is less time spent getting them on the mat. The girls will have fun whether they are on the mat or in the stands. Good luck to all the EMASS teams tomorrow.

It was not done that way last year, it has been done in the past. I once had a team of 8 and had to leave 2 behind...very upsetting for them and the whole team

It's cruel to split the kids up what would it take an extra 1mins to get them all on the floor if that's the case then let all the kids stay in the stands together as a team and just send the coaches or coordinators down it's stupid to split them up after all don't we teach teamwork not happy at all about this

And they did do it about 3-4 years ago and the kids and coaches hated it so they stopped so to save everyone 10mins of time they will bring it back. Keep the kids together either on the floor or in the stands let them celebrate as a team as it should be

Just my two cents.... I am all for speeding up the award process. some teams not spending the night will arrive home between 1am to 2am if they are lucky! I think an official parade (one team at time)does take more time than like at emass where all the team access the floor through all accessable entries to the floor. However with that being said, the time that the teams are on the mats and dancing, isnt that because the judges need more time to calculate or form the list of scores to determine the winners? So last year, at qualifiers and Regionals there was the formal parade and after all teams were on the mat, there was alot of dancing going on for a good 10-15 minutes, so i do not think that this will speed anything up at all. I also do not think they slow down the announcements of the next winners for the girls to get through the crowd to receive the trophy. I am for keeping the teams together. Just my two cents, though not worth much. I wish all the teams good luck Saturday and Sunday!!!

I have not coached for the past few years and I remember having to make that tough choice of bringing only 6 girls down on the floor. My heart broke for the remaining coaches and girls that have put in equal hard work and dedication to the team. Honestly it is going to be a late night anyways for the girls, I think an extra 30 minutes would not make a difference as long as the team could be together. My heart goes out to the coaches that have to make the difficult decision of which girls to leave behind, as well as the coaches that have dedicated so much time to their program yet have to stay in their seats. I know everyone is doing there best to make this run as smooth as possible, but this is supposed to be about the girls and I think there should be some way to make it happen.

I agree, the entire team & coaches should be together.
Don't take away the kids dancing on the floor!!
This is something they truly enjoy!! If you must,
another option is to keep EVERYONE in the stands.
When the team is called, 2 cheerleaders & 1 coach can come down the isle, walk to the table and receive the trophy. Keep the kids together.
I still don't understand why they don't want ALL the cheer teams on the floor?? It really doesn't delay the awards ceremony. The delay is adding up the scores!! These girls love the dancing & singing, while they wait the 20 min or whatever it takes to get score sheets ready. Come on!!!

I think thats a great idea, have everyone stay in the stands. If coming down to get the trophy will take to long then wait and when the coaches go to get their score sheets hand them the trophy then.

It has been done before and it worked well. Pick names out of a hat to make it fair.

I agree it will be weird not seeing a whole team jumping up with excitement when they are announced. And also for the small teams half the team will be in the stands and the other half on the floor. We will see.

Not seeing how this will speed up the award process...let the girls get out on the floor and dance away the stress of waiting to hear the results.

Every year the people who run the competitions make certain changes to help the comp run smoother. Somte things work, some things don't. Most of you voicing your opinions have no idea the amount of work that goes into planning and running these competitions. Thank you to all the hard workers in Pop Warner who make these competitions happen!

We waited 45 min on the back and another 20 on the mat today. No faster, but much less crowded and hot I guess.

I didn't like this idea either. But bottom line if u didnt agree with it you should have some what some teams did and left the girls in the stand as a team and let the coaches grab the trophy and bring it to the team so they could celebrate together. Sometimes you need to make the best decision for your team.. We practice as a team therefore win or loose we are together as a team.

We all know everyone is a team. But you still have to pick that girl to go up and get a trophy at all competitions, therefore, picking six girls to go down on a mat I don't feel like is a huge issue. Pick out of a hat and make it fair. The walk of champions was much quicker and it was quite calm in the back! :)
