| Well, I would have had to see it to understand the exact situation but if the runner was at 2nd while the pitcher was in his windup then that is where you award bases from. So despite the fact he got to 3rd before it was hit or reached the batter does not matter he was at 2nd while the pitcher was in his windup. Had he got to 3rd before the pitcher had even started to go into his windup that would be different but I would have had to see the play but I would guess the pitcher was in some kind of a windup before he tried to steal which would force him back to 2nd if it was fouled off.
