Game two to Volkkkkkkkk

The Amato’s Majors hosted the visiting Volk Packaging club. Lilly Volk was again on top of her game on the mound for the Blue & White, pitching 3 innings giving up only 3 runs on 2 hits and one BB while collecting 8 K’s.

The Volk girls opened the top of the first with a lead off base hit by Volk, followed by a HBP to Olivia Geheke who both ended up scoring on a series or wild pitches and passed balls drawing first blood. The Amato’s gang threatened in the bottom half of the inning but stranded runners at 3rd and 2nd base.

Control problems plaque Abbey Murrell who didn’t find her grove on a consistent basis. Murrell only allowed 1 hit but issued 9 walks while collecting 8 K’s took the loss. Volk tacked on another 3 runs in the top of the 2nd with the help of a couple errors and a deep sacrifice fly ball hit by Geheke that was caught By Jamie Dillon in center field. The Green and gold got their first run of the game in the bottom half taking a page from the Volk play book as Chelsea Hughes had a delayed stolen base of home plate.

Kaleigh Scoville drew a walk leading to the only run for the Volk club on a rare 4 strike out inning thanks to a dropped third strike in the top of the third. The Amato’s Girlz put the first 3 batters on the bags, scoring 2 runs before Volk struck out the side ending before more damage could be done to finish her night.

Mary Farnkoff came in relief in the 4th for the Defending Champs but the Blue & White were able to notch a 5 run tally with a big 2 run single by Tori Hale. In the bottom of the 4th, Hale took the mound, getting a feel for pitching, allowed 3 runs on 1 hit and 5 walks, but she had a good defensive help behind her that included plays by Felicia O’Reilly and Erin Ryan to bail her out of more trouble.

As the sun was setting and the time limit approaching the final inning saw Ryan score the only run, stealing home while the green and gold had a lapse in attention to the base runner. In the bottom half of the 5th, Hughes, Emily Jeffords, and Emily Taggart hit the ball well, putting the ball in play, but good defense held the line without allowing another run.
