MARAUDERS CLAIM COUGAR CLASSIC COPPER TITLE

Mira Mesa won their third straight game, defeating Clairemont 7-1 in the Cougar Classic Copper bracket final. Amber Ratza pitched the first three scoreless innings to pick up the win, and Lani Vanta finished the final two innings to get a save. Vanta got the Marauders started with a bang, belting a lead-off HR to left. Mira Mesa took advantage of three Clairemont errors to score three in the 2nd with Alicia Garcia (sac fly) and Beth Coffin (groundout) supplying the RBI. Quirisa Mauga scored the second run with some heads-up baserunning, coming all the way home from 2nd base on Garcia's sacrifice fly when the ball bounced past the catcher. In the bottom of the 5th, Tani Leasau crushed a 2-run homerun to deep left to make the final score 7-1.

Copper bracket
Mira Mesa, the defending Grossmont Conference Tournament champion, raced through three opponents, including a pair of teams on Monday (Mar. 12), to claim the Copper trophy of the Cougar Classic. The Marauders easily took out San Pasqual, 4-1, and Clairemont, 7-1.
Senior pitcher Lani Vanta, who will play for Weber State next season, stopped the Golden Eagles on four hits while herself batting 2-for-2 with a walk. Then against the Chieftains, Vanta and TANI LEASAU each homered to make a winner of pitcher Amber Ratza.
Vanta's homer led off the game in the wire-to-wire win, then Leasau delivered a 2-run shot in the 5th.
