two Big Innings Propel Greece into Playoffs
What looked to be pitching battle after two innings quickly turned into a Greece offensive juggernaut in a play-in game 13-4 victory over Brooks Shepard.
Mike Mule came up with two on in the 3rd and failed to get two bunts down. He made up for it with a hard line drive to right to score James Huber to get the ball rolling. Victor Torres hit a deep fly ball to center to score Neale McMullen on a sac fly. After a single and a walk, Ryan Ballard came up with the bases loaded and hit a two run single. Ballard stole second and as the dirt cleared and Brooks was lazt getting the ball back to the pitcher, James Sciortino took off for home and stole the run. Ballard then scored on an error, Isaac Yorkey scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-0.
Finnerty delivered an RBI double in the 4th to make it 8-0. Brooks made a small comeback using 3 walks, a hit by pitch and a single to make it 8-3.
Most times this season when a team makes a comeback, Grecee lets them back in the game, but tonight they made sure to put the dagger in. Mule comes up again and blasts an RBI double to right. Torres adds an RBI single.Mule takes home when the throw to attemot to get a stealing Torres got away. Finnerty one hops the fence for another RBI double, and Sciortino hits a line drive down the left field line that gets to the fence for an RBI triple to cap off the scoring.
Connor Hong got the win going 5 innings allowing 2 hits to get his 5th win on the season. Jake Wamser came in and threw two innings, allowing an unearned run and striking out 3.
Finnerty led the way going 3 for 5 with two doubles and 2 RBIs. Mule was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. Sciortino was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. "Rakin'" Ray Mineo added a single for GP (17-9)
