Sassaman, A's Top Reds

At Gochnauer Field, The Muhlenberg A's used another quality start from lefty Tyler Sassaman and some clutch hitting to come away with a Southern Division win over the Hamburg Reds 5-1. The A's (18-5, 10-2) scored two 1st innings runs with Pete McGinley's sacrifice fly scoring Conor Williams and a bases loaded walk by Derrick Miller to take an early 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Anthony Pizzo led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Miller's two strike RBI single. After two strikeouts, Williams struck with his own RBI single padding the lead to 4-1. This was enough for Sassaman who after letting up a run in the first inning threw six scoreless innings allowing four hits and striking out four. "A good bounce back win for this team," said assistant coach Dan Runkel. "The boys were upset with how the game went yesterday and responded as good teams do."
John Henninger went 2 for 3 while Chris Drobnick doubled for Muhlenberg. "We are getting everyone to contribute on the ball club," stated head coach Phil Raccuglia when asked about the keys to the teams success. "Tonight, it was Conor and Derrick who really came up huge in the clutch." "Sass was and has been tremendous for us." "It's enjoyable to watch this team grow together . . . I couldn't be more proud of a group."
