Southbridge Keeps Late Lead For Opening Weekend Win
Southbridge Spectacles took the lead late in the game in a 2-1 victory over Central Mass Expos on Sunday. The game was tied at one with Southbridge Spectacles batting in the top of the sixth when Bill King's sac fly scored one run for Southbridge Spectacles.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Eric Proulx struck out seven, while Central Mass Expos pitchers sat down seven.
Southbridge Spectacles got things moving in the second inning, when Matt Higgins hit a solo homer.
In the bottom of the second inning, Central Mass Expos tied things up at one when Andrew Girouard's sac fly scored one run for Central Mass Expos.
Proulx was the winning pitcher for Southbridge Spectacles. He allowed two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven.
Higgins went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Southbridge Spectacles in hits. Southbridge Spectacles didn't commit a single error in the field. Andrew Richards had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
