Mule's Diving Catch Saves Playoff Opener

Mike Mule made a diving catch on a hot line drive in center field that would have resulted in a loss if he missed for Greece to hold on to take Game 1 of the District 7 semi-finals.

Coach Ford decided to intentionally walk the go-ahead run in Jason Bocklage with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and almost backfired on the next pitch. But the dive and tumble was enough to hold onto the ball and move on to the next game.

Greece got two in the first on a Ryan Ballard sac fly and heads up base running by James Sciortino to score on a wild pitch that did not get too far from the catcher but caught the pitcher sleeping.

RM answered with two of their own in the bottom half. Greece took the lead for good inthe 3rd with back to back bases loaded walks followed by a 2 run line drive single from Mule.

Rayson got 3 in the 5th with some fly balls that should have been played for out but the Greece outfielder played too hesitant. Starter Neale McMullen did not let it faze him and he bulldogged his way out of the inning.

McMullen went the distance to get the win scattering the 11 hits and striking out 3.

Thomas Finnerty led the offense going 3 for 4 with Mule helping out going 2 for 3 with the 2 RBIs for GP (18-9)
