Cool Night, Hot Bats & Gloves

A cool wind and brisk temperatures that dropped into the upper 40's tonight saw the Volk Packaging Ladies take on the Amato's Girlz. Despite the temperatures, the girls from both teams played extremely well.

The Blue and White Volk team opened up first putting a pair on the board in the first and a lone run in the second as starter Tori Hale gave up 6 walks but notched 3 K's

The Green and Gold got going in the bottom half of the 2nd as they had 5 hits scoring their maximum 5 runs culminating with a bases clearing double by Megan Murrell.

Mary Farnkoff came in for the next two innings and got into a little jam with the bases loaded and one out before third baseman Grace Bailer stole a sure extra base line drive out of the air and then doubled up the girl on first to get out of the inning without any damage. Farnkoff allowed 2 runs on 5 walks, one hit and one K.

The Amato Girlz answering the call in the bottom half of the 4th scored 5 more times while only recording 1 out.

Murrell finished the last 2 innings on the mound retiring their first 5 batters in order before allowing 1 hit and one run and notching her own K to end the game

The Green and Gold collected 9 hits on the night, a pair each for Chandra LaBonte, who also stole 4 sacs of her own, Murrell and Danni Plummer. Dominique Caron had a big hit in the second and scored 2 runs. Julia Walker had a hit, run, RBI and a Stolen base. Heads up plays of the night, Bailers' double play, Hale sprinting to first base after a ball four went to the back stop as she motored into 2nd base. On a similar play, Labonte taking 2B after another ball 4 to the fence but as the late throw to 2B was thrown, Chelsea Hugh's coasted into home from 3B.

Defensively the Girlz did the job as well throwing the leather around. Not to be outdone by Bailer's great play, 1B saw a lot of action as well, collecting a combined 10 put outs and assist with Jamie Dillon covering 2B on a number of fielded balls by the first basement tonight. Out fielders and infielders continued their "Three up Three Down" motto, and backed throws up to bases and to the mound so well it looked instinctual.

Next Game Tuesday night against the Cape Cardinals.
