Crush Overpower Ball Wackers

Saturday Crush overpowered the Ball Wackers en route to a victory in their first-ever BWBL regular season game, winning by the score of 30-3. Mark Belles led the way for the winners with three homeruns and 11 RBIs. Saturday Crush improved to 1-0, while the Ball Wackers are 0-1 on the young season.

The offensive barrage began early, as Saturday Cruch scored 15 runs in the first inning. Belles led things off and went 4-for-4 in the inning, including a homerun and six RBIs. Ryan Hart was also 4-for-4 with a homerun and three runs batted in. Justin Gober, Andy Peck, and Shawn Ashton also contributed during the inning with RBIs, with Peck's coming on a double.

The Ball Wackers were unable to put anything on the board in the top of the second, so Saturday Crush went back to work, scoring five more in their half of the inning. Peck led off with a single and later scored on a two-run homerun by Belles. Hart walked, as did Gober, only to be knocked in on another homerun, this time off the bat of Ashton, giving the Crush a 20-0 lead.

Not wanting to be white-washed, the Ball Wackers scored two runs in the top of the third to finally get in the books. Joe Kuss, Dan Schwartz, and Kenny Kandrac had consecutive singles, and Adam "Miller" Gresowski followed with an RBI walk, scoring Kuss. Schwartz would also score in the inning, making it 20-2.

Saturday Crush continued to pour on the runs, scoring 10 in the bottom of the third to put the game way out of reach. Following walks by Gober and Peck, Ashton hit another three-run homerun. Belles then singled, as did Hart. After another Gober walk, Peck hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Belles. Two batters later, Belles hit his third homerun of the game. Hart and Justin singled again, before Peck hit a three-run homerun of his own to close out the scoring for the Saturday Crush, putting them in front 30-2 going into the fourth.

The Ball Wackers could only come up with one run in their half of the fourth, ending the game by the mercy rule. Kandrac singled to lead off the fourth, scoring later on a fielder's choice. A fly out would end the game, with Saturday Crush taking it, 30-3.

Belles (1-0) backed up his plate performance with a solid performance on the hill, as well. He went all four innings for the Crush, allowing seven hits while striking out one and walking four.

Bob Bomboy (0-1) took the loss for the Wackers. He pitched an inning and two-thirds, allowing 20 runs on 16 hits, walking four. Schwartz also saw some time on the mound for the losers, allowing 10 runs in one-and-one-third innings, also allowing four free passes.

These two teams would come back the very next game to face each other in what would prove to be a much closer contest.
