Dodgers Dodge the Amatos Rally

Game two of interleague play brought the Cape Elizabeth Dodgers to Scarborough. A much older and taller team compared to the Green and Gold, hit the ball well, and had outstanding deffense, The Dodger Blue snagged fly balls out of the air like it was game 7 of the World Series. The Cape club snagged 4 hard hit balls, 3 of which were sure to be extra bases, and cleanly fielded another 17 balls put into play by the Amato's gang,

Deffense was the name of the game tonight. Both clubs only committing 3 errors, but the Green and Golds accounted for 8 un-earned runs on the night. Aggresive base running, sacrifice bunts and timely hitting kept the deffending champs in the game trailing by two runs despite Coach Dillon's happy pen doodling.

The bottom of the sixth brought lead off hitter Mary Farnkoff to the plate and she worked the count for a free pass. Up next, bunt extrodinar Jamie Dillon laid down a text book bunt for a sacrifice that she almost beat out for a bunt advancing Farnkoff to second and then third as she caught the deffense preoccupied retiring Dillon. Grace Bailer hit a hard grounder to third base for an RBI fielders choice. Up next Chloe "Hollywood" Gorey stepped up to the plate and surprised everyone, laying down a bunt single and advancing to third base on a throwing error by the catcher. Next up to the plate was pool player and Amato's alum, Tori Hale, cracked open a single tying the game at 12 apeice, and then was thrown out trying to advance on a bobble.

The top of the 7th the Dodgers were able capitalize on a base hit, a error in the outfield and three fielders choice to plate the go ahead and insurance run.. The bottom half of the inning wasn't quite as exciting as the sixth but they threatend after a strikout as Lindsey "DQ" Kelley drew a free pass, then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. After another out, Emily "ET" Taggart put a charge into the ball driving to the shortstop who made yet another excellent play retiring Taggart for the third and final out.

What a night for a very good game by both clubs.

Last minute scratches ; Abbey Murrell, Anna Driscoll due to illness and Ashley Imler to a sprained ankle.

Thank you Tori Hale for filling in!
